大雪から一夜明け/ After heavy snow in Tokyo

大雪から一夜明け、東京は良い天気ですが、かなり雪が残っていました。
春に向け爽やかな香りを漂わせていた蝋梅も突然の雪で、震えているようです。

After heavy snow last night, today in Tokyo is good whether but remaining many snow.
Yellow winter sweets or Japanese allspice which blooms with sweet fragrance waiting spring, however is shivering today.

そして梅も寒そうです。
And Japanese apricot also looks cold.

東京も銀世界/ Under the snow, Heart of Tokyo, Hibiya park

今日は東京も一面の銀世界です。見慣れた日比谷公園も別世界のようです。

Today, Tokyo is under the snow fall. My favorite place, Hibiya park, is looks like another world.

凍てつく噴水/ Frozen fountain in Hibiya park

寒い日が続く、日本列島です。大雪が続く北日本と違って東京では雪は降っていませんが、それでも朝は氷点下の日々が続いています。
Now Japan is in the coldest season. Tokyo is no snow different from northern Japan, but is in very cold days, and bellow zero in morning.

日比谷公園で凍った噴水の写真を撮っていたら、NHKのインタビューを受けてしまいました。もしかしてローカルニュースで流れるかも？　と思いましたが、放映はされなかったようです。When I took shots of frozen fountain in Hibiya park this morning, I was interviewed by Japanese broadcasting station NHK. I expected it might be on-aired in local news but seemed no casted.

二重の虹/ Double rainbow

今日の帰宅途中に綺麗な虹がかかっているのに気がつきました。写真ではわかり難いですが、虹が二重になっています。

I found astonishing rainbow in the evening on my way back to home.
Although it could be difficult to see, the rainbow was double circle.

そして振り返ると、不思議な夕焼け雲でした。やはり台風一過の影響でしょうか。

And then when I turn back to west sky, also, it was funny cloud on sunset. It might be some effect after typhoon passing away.

夕立のあと/ After short but heavy shower with thunder

東京も連日の猛暑の上、夕方は激しい雷雨でした。夕立のあとのちょっと魅力的な雲です。

It has been severe hot days in couple days in Tokyo, and today we have　a short but heavy shower with thunder. After the shower, I can find attractive clouds over the sky.

そして少しだけ涼しくなりました。
And then, a little bit cooler now.

入梅と麦秋と田植えと / Barley harvesting and rice transplanting just before rainy season

関東の入梅近い昨日、今にも雨が降りそうな天気の中、足利に出かけてきました。東武伊勢崎線の車窓からは、丁度、麦秋の景色を楽しむことができました。

I had a business trip to Asikaga city just before rainy season under dark cloud. I was able to see scene of barley harvesting (in Japan we call it barley autumn) from window of a train on Tobu-Isezaki line.

入梅前に収穫されて美味しいビールになって欲しいと、農家の方に心の中でエールを送りました。

I had a feeling of thanks for farmers since it would become tasty beer after good harvest.

そして、収穫が終わった田んぼには、次々とお米が植えられていきます。

Just after harvesting, then rice has been transplanted one by one.

足利までの短い日帰り出張でしたが、ちょうど季節の変わり目の景色を楽しむことができました。

I was able to enjoy to see a changing season during one day short trip to suburb of Tokyo.

春霞？/ Misty spring morning

今日の東京は昨晩からの雨も上がり、暖かく感じる朝。朝の霧（きり）は春の霞（かすみ）のよう。今日は春を感じられる日になりそうです。

Today, rain from last night ends and fog over Tokyo this morning. I am not sure this is a fog or mist, but I hope I can feel early spring warm today.

霜柱/ frost column, needle ice

東京地方はこのところ寒い日が続いていて、今朝も立派な霜柱が出来ていました。
霜が空中の水分が凍るのに対し、この霜柱は土中の水分が凍ってできるので、字は似ていても全く別物のようです。

I found needle ice or frost column on the ground in this morning since we have cold days in these days in Tokyo area.
Frost is made from water in air but frost column or needle ice is made from water in soil during winter cold day, so it is different phenomenon although Japanese name seems simile.

土の表面が氷点下でも土の中がまだ凍っていない時に、火山性の柔かい土壌で出来やすいので、雪が少なく関東ローム層で覆われている関東平野は、世界的にも霜柱の出来やすい地域なのだそうです。

It is created when inside soil is above 0 degree Celsius but temperature of surface air is below O degree and often found in soft and fine soils including volcanic acid, so Kanto plain surrounding Tokyo covered by Kanto loamy layer with few snow is one of the best area for forming frost column or needle ice.

しばらく寒さが続きそうなので、朝のはかない氷の造形を楽しむことができそうです。
I can enjoy to watch this icy object for a while but very short time in early morning.

都心の雪景色/ Snow on a park in downtown

今朝の東京は予報どおりの雪。公共交通が乱れるほどではなかったのですが、都心の公園もうっすら雪景色。寒いのはちょっと辛いけど、久しぶりの雪で、いつもと違う景色が少し嬉しかったです。

It was snow this morning even in downtown Tokyo as had been forecast. It was not so heavy to make confusion on public transportation but covered ground in the park in downtown. I don't like cold weather but was a little bit excited to see a scene not as usual.

春を待つ梅の蕾は少し可愛そうでした。

Young shoot with small bud of Japanese plum, Ume, covered snow looked like shivering.

突然のスコール/ Sudden heavy shower with wind “squall” in Bangkok

雨季も終わりに近づき雨も少なくなってきました。 それでも、さっきまで良い天気だと思っていても、まさしく一天にわかに掻き曇り、突然のスコールということも。
こんなスコールになったら、無理に外に出るのは諦めて、ゆっくり雨宿りをしたほうが賢明です。強い雨と風でどうせ傘は役に立たないし、２０－３０分もすれば上がることが多いですから。

Bangkok is now approaching end of rainy season and it becomes a few rainy day recently. However, still occasionally, we will have sudden heavy shower with strong wind just after fine weather. If you will have such a squall it would be better to stay inside of building, since no umbrella is useful for such strong rain and wind and it would not continue more than 30 minutes.
