深大寺のそば祭りで新そばを堪能してきました。I enjoyed a Jindai temple buckwheat festival.

深大寺は約1300年の歴史を持ち、素朴な白鳳期の釈迦如来（国宝）で知られる名刹ですが、武蔵野台地の崖面の湧水を活かしたそばの名所としても知られています。

 Jindai temple is known as one of the oldest temples in eastern Japan by almost 1,300-year-old national treasure Shakyanyorai statue (Gautama Buddha) This temple is located on edge of Musashino Plateau in west Tokyo with plenty of clear spring water, good for buckwheat noodle.

深大寺の参道回りには20軒の蕎麦屋が軒を連ね、期間限定の手形を買うと特別に「小もり」を注文し蕎麦屋巡りができます。

There are more or less 20 noodle restaurants along paths to the temple. We can order a smaller dish by showing a special tablet only available during festival week for completing all restaurants.

元寺領だった隣の神代植物公園を散策し紅葉や秋薔薇を楽しんでお腹を空かせては蕎麦屋をはしごして楽しむことができました。昨日だけでは全て周ることができなかったので、今週はそばweekになりそうです。

 I tasted noodles in some restaurants, then prayed in the temple and visited neighboring Jindai botanical garden where used to be temple territory and enjoyed autumn foliage and roses, then tried other restaurants. I could not completed all restaurants in the last week end, then I will try again this week, again.

新宿御苑も随分と秋めきました。Autumn foliage in Shinjyukugyoen garden.

イチョウやプラタナスは黄色くなり、いくつかのカエデはかなり赤くなってきました。ラクウショウ（落羽松）の森は静かで少し不気味です。木々が色づく中、秋咲きの桜が可愛い花を咲かせていました。

Many different hue in yellow color ginko and platanu and red of maples. In a calm and dark forest of bald cypress, I felt something like creepiness. During leaves of others changing, some autumn blooming cherries were showing their pretty flowers.

Ginkgo biloba/ Gingko/ イチョウ　銀杏

Platanus orientalis/ Old World sycamore/ スズカケノキ プラタナス

立派な並木の下を枯れ葉が音を立てています。昔聞いた「風」という曲を思い出します。

These trees in lines are the oldest ones platanus in Japan. I remember old folk song featuring autumn platanus names “wind”.

Taxodium distichum/ Bald cypress/ ラクウショウ 落羽松

紅葉した枝は鳥の羽のようです、このまま枝を落とすので落羽松と呼ばれています。

Bald cypress is noted for the russet-red fall color of its lacy needles.

Acer palmatum/ Japanese maple/ イロハモミジ　いろは紅葉

カエデの中でやや小ぶりの葉ですが、5から９枚の葉に分かれ、これを「いろはにほへと……」と数えたことが名前の由来です。京都の紅葉の名所、高雄の名前をつけて高雄紅葉とも呼ばれます。

This species is the most popular of eye-catching red color, leaf is palmately lobed with five, seven, or nine. Japanese name, I-ro-ha Momiji, is came from old Japanese letter counting like a-b-c.

Acer amoenum var. Tamukeyama/ ヤマモミジ　品種　手向山又はベニシダレ

ヤマモミジ系でイロハモミジよりやや大きめの葉で、細い切れこみで春と秋に紅葉する品種です。

his variety is unique as red foliage in spring and autumn with slim lobed leaf.

Acer buergerianum/ Trident maple/ トウカエデ　唐楓

やや広めの三又に分かれた葉が特徴的なカエデです。

The leaves are hard and glossy dark green turn to red usually with three lobes.

ジュウガツザクラ（十月桜）、秋と春に咲く二季咲の代表的な品種で、薄ピンク色の半八重でマメサクラの系統が入っているので花も木も小ぶりです。

October sakura (cherry), one of the most popular variety of two-season blooming, which has pale pink semi-double petals.October sakura is dwalf variety with small flowers crossing from Fuji cherry (Cerasus incisa).

コブクサクラ（子福桜）、白色八重の品種でカラミサクラの血が入っていて一つの花から複数の実をつけるので小福の名がついています。

Kobuku zakura, Japanese meaning happy children cherry. This variety, white double petal variety, known as fertile variety producing more than two fruits from one blossom, since it bred from Chinese sour variety

ヒマラヤサクラ、ヒマラヤ山麓のネパールの野生種です。淡い緋色の一重です。他の秋に咲く品種と違って秋・冬にしか咲かない種類です。
wild Himalayan cherry,wild vaiety grown in Himalayan region of 1,200-2,400m altitude,with pale scarlet single petal. This variety bloom only autumn to winter.

武蔵野の戦争遺跡を訪ねました I visited world war II related places in Musashino

武蔵野市の観光ボランティアガイドさんのご案内で、武蔵野市に残る第2次世界大戦にゆかりの場所を巡ってきました。市民の憩いの場となっていて、私もよく散歩する武蔵野中央公園は、かつては零戦や隼のエンジンの主要工場だった中島飛行機武蔵製作所があった所です。このため戦争末期は米軍の攻撃目標となり、工場守備の軍人だけではなく、多くの工場労働者、勤労動員学徒、近隣の市民の方が犠牲になりました。

I had a good opportunity to join a half day tour visiting the World War II relating places which was guided by volunteer guides of Musashino city. Musashino central park is a currently relaxing and refreshment place and I enjoy walking sometime but it used be a factory of Nakajima Aircraft Company that assembled engines of zero fighter and Nakajima Ki-43 (Hayabusa) fighter. Therefore this place was the main target of bombing by the US forces and there were many victims not only soldiers but also students and civilians by several attacks during the war.  

かつて爆撃照準点だった場所には、昔の写真などとともに第2次大戦中の爆撃のことなどが説明されています。

 

At the place used be an aiming point, some memorial plates show history of the place during the war.  

近くの延命寺には犠牲者の冥福を祈る平和観世音菩薩や不発爆弾の残骸が展示されており、また源正寺には当時の爆撃の機銃掃射の弾痕の残る墓石がそのまま残されています。

I prayed to a statue of Avalokitesvara (Kannon Bosatsu) for wishing peace by watching a ruin of unexploded bomb near by in Enmeiji temple and I watched a gravestone with traces of strafing run in Genseiji temple.

また、よく散歩する遊歩道はJR中央線からかつての中島飛行機製作所への引き込み線の跡地です。

A promenade I walk sometime was remining of a sidetrack to the factory.

かつての戦争から3四半世紀が過ぎ、それ以来戦争のない平和な時代を過ごせる幸せを認識した散歩でした。

I can feel happiness of living in peace three quarter century after the last war.
