秋の山梨で最高技術にふれました I touched high technology in autumn Yamanashi

山梨で秋の実りの葡萄を楽しんだ後、リニア見学センターの時速500㎞で走るリニア新幹線の試験運転を見て来ました。After I enjoyed delicious grape harvest in Yamanashi, I visited Maglev Exhibition Center.

リニアの仕組みを学び実際の浮遊を体験し、迫力満点の目の前の試運転を見学して来ました。

At the center, I was able to learn basic knowledge on Maglev (magnetic levitation) train, have a floating experience and watch actual test runs over 500km/hour in front of center.

現代の最新技術を見学した後は隣の大月で、橋脚がない刎橋（はねばし）という江戸時代の先端技術の猿橋を見学し、新旧の優れた技術から多くを学んだ旅でした。 After I learned cutting edge technology, I visited an ancient high-tech bridge called Saruhashi, literally monkey bridge, a kind of hanebashi supported by a series of cantilever beams set in the opposing cliff faces. It is said a high technology of mid edo period more than 250 years ago.

秋の七草 Seven herbs of autumn

秋の彼岸、中秋の名月も近づき、少し涼しくなって来たので、江戸時代に町人により作られた向島百花園で秋の七草を楽しんできました。秋の七草は、万葉集に山上憶良（やまのうえのおくら）が、「秋の野に　咲きたる花をおよびをり(指折り）、かき数ふればななくさの花、萩の花、尾花葛花、撫子の花、女郎花（おみなえし）、また藤袴、朝貌（あさがお）の花」と詠んで以来日本人に愛されてきた和の花たちです。なお、あさがおは当時は桔梗の花を指したと考えられています。

We can feel cooler now approaching autumnal equinox and harvest moon or moon viewing mid-autumn day and I visited Mukojima hyakaen, literally “hundred flower garden” established in Edo era by rich merchant, admiring beaty of seven herbs of autumn. Seven herbs of autumn were selected in Manyosyu by ancient poet Yamanoueno Okura lived in 7^th century in these poems, “Aki-no No-ni Sakitaru Hana-wo Oyobiori Kakikazoureba Nanakusa-no Hana, Meaning: When I count on my fingers for blooming flowers in the autumn fields, I find there are seven.”“Hagi-no Hana Obana Kuzuhana Nadeshiko-no Hana Ominaeshi Mata Fujihakama Asagao-no Hana, Meaning: Bush clover, Susuki grass or Japanese panpas grass, Kudzu or Japanese arrowroot, Fringed pink or pink dianthus, Patrinia, Thoroughwort and Balloon flower”. After selection, these flowers have been loved by Japanese people long time.

萩（はぎ）萩にもいくつかの種類がありますが、宮城野萩(Lespedeza thunbergia)は枝が良くしなり枝先に大型の花を咲かせる人気のある園芸種です。Thunberg’s bushclover (Lespedeza thunbergia) is the most popular bush clover which has soft branches with many large flowers on them.

尾花（おばな）、薄（すすき）はお月見には欠かせない花ですが、七草の他の花に比べると地味な花です。幽霊の正体見たり枯れ尾花と詠まれる通り、夜の野原に揺れる姿は少し不気味です。Susuki grass or Japanese pampas grass is indispensable to mid-autumn moon viewing. But this flower is soberer than other seven flowers. It looks a little bit weird in night field, like poem said that the ghost, when examined closely is withered silver grass.

葛（くず）、万葉の昔から、根を用いて食材の葛粉や漢方薬が作られ親しまれてきました。北米でも日本から持ち込まれ、飼料などに最初は珍重されましたが、その生命力の強さから今では駆除対象となっている外来生物です。Kuzdu flower has been loved and roots eaten from ancient time in Japan but hated in USA as a noxious weeds.

撫子（なでしこ）又は河原撫子（かわらなでしこ）、秋の七草に入っていて、花期は長く常夏とも呼ばれますが、どちらかというと夏の花です。今回は向島百花園では咲いている花は見つけられず、６月に新宿御苑で撮ったものです。Fringed pink or pink dianthus, this is a kind of dianthus and has five deeply cut fringed pink petals this sometimes resembled graceful Japanese lady. The flower cannot be found this time and this picture taken in Shinjyuku gyoen garden in June.

女郎花（おみなえし）一つ一つの花は可憐な小さな花ですが、全体では背が高く結構目立ちます。Patrinia, It has thin, erect stems with few leaves and bearing a terminal attractive inflorescence with yellow or white small flowers.

藤袴（ふじばかま）薄い藤色の花を草の上部に冠状にさかせます。花が生の時にはあまり匂いがありませんが、乾燥すると桜餅のようなにおいがするそうです。Thoroughwort, The shallow lavender color flowers are collected together into heads that are densely corymbose, the inflorescence are usually 3 to 6 cm wide.When the flowers dried up, it has weak but good smell.

桔梗（ききょう）つぼみが緑色から紫色に変わり開花しますが、そのつぼみが風船のようにも見えるので、英語ではballoon flowerと呼ばれます。白色やピンク色の花もあります。普通は５弁の花ですが、まれに写真のような６弁や４弁のものも見られます。Ballon flower or Japanese bell flower, The plants has blue flowers in late summer, with five petals are fused together into a bell shape. Though blue flowers are common, but there are varieties with white, pink, and purple blooms. The flower bud is like a balloon before fully opening. The flower usually has 5 petals but occasionally 6 or 4 petal’s flowers can be found.

京都１日観光 鉄板観光地駆け巡り（その４）Hopping around 1 day in Kyoto, must to go tourist spots (No.4)

二条城を後にして鹿苑寺金閣へ。入り口で、今、こけら葺き屋根の葺き替えのため足場で覆われていますが入りますかと言われましたが、折角なので入ることに。工事は今年9月から始まり12月まで続くそうです。I headed up to the golden pavilion in Rokuon-ji temple after the Nijyo-jo castle. At the entrance I was told that the pavilion was covered by scaffolds to renew wood shingle roof. This repair work has started beginning of September and will continue to December.

足場で囲われた金閣 まだ工事が始まったばかりなので中の様子も見られます。The golden pavilion covered by scaffolds. It was just started renovation work so a little bit visible inside through the scaffolds.

記念写真用？囲いのない金閣寺の写真も準備されていました。Pictures standing at the best picturing spot may be for memory snapshot.

足場で囲われた金閣を見ながら境内を散策して清水寺へ向かいます。 It was a little bit regrettable not to take beautiful picture but I changed my mind it was good chance to see rare scene of the covered pavilion.

鏡湖池 金閣側から見た池は少し寂しげです　The pond of Kyoko-chi, The scene from the pavilion looks a little bit lonely.

安民沢 Anmintaku is a pond surrounded by deep forest. As it does not dry up even during droughts, it has been used as a place to pray for rain. The small islet inside the pond holds

不動堂　Fudo-do The principal image of the temple is a stone statue built by Kobo Daishi of Fudo Myo-o (Skt. Acala)

そして、清水寺に向かいます。清水寺は2017年2月から続いていた大改修がほぼ終わり、屋根の覆いは外され綺麗な檜皮葺きの本堂は見られるようになりましたが、舞台の床板張替え工事が続いていて全ての足場が撤去されるのは来年の春になるそうです。Then I moved down to Kiyomizu temple where large-scale renovation has been almost finished and temporally cover of main building has been removed recently.

清水寺の仁王門（左側）と西門及び三重塔　この門をくぐって音羽山中腹の本堂（舞台）を目指します。Nio-mon (Deva gate) (left side) and Sai-mon (west gate) and Three-story Pagoda　Visitors climbs up to the main building (overhanging stage) on middle of mountainside of Mt. Otowa.

有名な檜舞台は改修中で少ししか出られませんでした。Famous overhanging Hinoki (Japanese cypress) stage was only partly allowed to step out because of renovation work.

まだ舞台の上と下には工事の覆いがありますが、葺き替え工事が終わった本堂の檜皮葺き屋根は美しいです。It is still covered on and under the stage by ongoing repair work, but main building’s cypress bark roof recently finished renovation looks very beautiful.

音羽の瀧、これまで参拝者は「金色水」「延命水」と呼ばれる清水を柄杓に汲み、所願成就を祈願しましたが、今はコロナで柄杓が使えなくてひっそりです。Otowa no taki (Otowa Waterfall) where visitors used to catch pure water, named “Konjiki-sui” (golden water) or “Enmei-sui” (life-prolonging water) with ladles and pray for purification, but currently using ladles is prohibited for avoiding new corona virus.

歴史ある京都の景観を維持するための工事は仕方がないですし、ある意味貴重な写真がとれました。清水を出て、人通りの途絶えた夕暮れの産寧坂、二年坂を通って家路につきました。 It is necessary of maintenance work keeping historical beautiful scene so I has good chance to take such on-going renovation pictures of popular temples. I headed for my home through empty sun-set streets, Sannei slope and Ninen slope, they are usually very popular and crowded alleys.

京都１日観光 鉄板観光地駆け巡り（その３）Hopping around 1 day in Kyoto, must to go tourist spots (No.3)

御所からほど近いところにある二条城。御所守護の名目で築城されましたが、徳川家が天皇から与えられた将軍の地位を誇示し天皇家を監視するために置かれたもので、徳川幕府260年の始終を見守ってきたお城です。Nijyo-jo castle located not far from the Imperial Palace, which was built as the residence of the Tokugawa shoguns in Kyoto to guard the Imperial palace namely but actually to show the power the shogun and for vigilance to Emperor. It was eyewitness of 260-year history of the Tokugawa shogunate from the announcement of appointment of first Shogun Ieyasu to the the declaration of last shogun Yoshinobu, returning the authority to the Imperial Court. 

東大手門から入りますが、優雅な京都の街にはある意味似つかわしくない門です。We can enter it through Higashi Ote-mon gate (east gate), typical massive gate may not be harmonized with surrounding elegant atmosphere. 

後水尾天皇の行幸の際には1階建てに建て替えられたそうです。Higashi Ote-mon gate (east gate), two-storey yagura mon, it was altered for the visit of the Gomizuo Emperor to one-storey avoiding look-down.

伏見城から移築したといわれる二の丸御殿の唐門は桃山時代の豪華絢爛な装飾が特徴です。The Karamon Gate, relocated from Fushimi Castle originally set up, it has typical decoration of Momoyama era magnificent and brilliant carvings.

 

長寿を意味する松竹梅に鶴亀、聖域を守護する唐獅子などが極彩色で飾られています。It has typical decoration of Momoyama era magnificent and brilliant carvings of auspicious symbols, like pine, bamboo, Japanese apricot blossom, crane and turtle, symbolizing longevity and guardian animal like lion and dragon.

唐門をくぐると書院造りの御殿群の二の丸御殿です。 中は撮影できないので紹介できませんが将軍の権威を示す障壁画などが見事で、鴬張りの廊下を進みます（こちらで、https://nijo-jocastle.city.kyoto.lg.jp/introduction/highlights/ninomaru/　見ることができます）。Ninomaru-goten palace, connected buildings, is archetypical of the shoin-zukuri style, visitors can admire wall paintings, carved transoms and exquisite metalworks of 33 rooms walking through “nightingale corridors”. (It is prohibited to take photos, please find form here if you want to see inside. https://nijo-jocastle.city.kyoto.lg.jp/introduction/highlights/ninomaru/?lang=en ) 

神仙蓬莱の世界を現したという二の丸庭園は御殿の将軍の座から鑑賞できるように工夫されているといいます。Ninomaru garden was built according to the Shinsenhorai ideology forming paradise, which is designed to be enjoyed from Shogun seat in some rooms in the palace.

大広間外観　大広間一の間の将軍の座から庭園が見渡せるように配置されていますが、今はコロナ対策で臨時の換気装置が少し無粋です。Outside view of Oohiroma, the garden is designed from good view from the palace. However attached temporal ventilation system looks so bad.

1750年落雷により焼失しそれ以来再建されなかった天守跡からは京都の街が見渡せます。From the base of the keep tower which was struck by lightning and burned down and never rebuilt, we can enjoy views of city of Kyoto.

二条城北側に新たに作られた清流園はリラックスするのに気持ちのいい庭園で、ちょうど珍しい枝垂れ槐（えんじゅ）の花が咲いていました。 I was able to relax in newly constructed Seiryu-en garden northside of the castle.

清流園、二条城北側に新たに作られた和洋折衷の庭園です。Seiryu-en garden laid out in 1965 is a fusion of Eastern and Western style.

枝垂れ槐(えんじゅ)　 槐の変種で枝がしなやかに垂れます、枝垂れたものを見るのは初めてです。Weeping Japanese pagoda (Sophora japonica f. Pendulum) Weeping variety of Japanese pagoda tree, this is my first time to weeping type.

次は金閣寺そして清水寺に向かいます。I will head up to the Golden pavilion in Rokuon-ji temple and then Kiyomizu temple.

京都１日観光 鉄板観光地駆け巡り（その２）Hopping around 1 day in Kyoto, must to go tourist spots (No.2)

仙洞御所を出て御所へ向かいます。正門である建礼門を過ぎ、長い築地塀に沿って歩きます。After left the Sento Imperial palace, I moved to the Imperial Palace. I walked along with long earthen wall with few other visitors.

即位の礼など紫宸殿で重要な儀式の際に天皇陛下と国賓しか通れない正門である建礼門。Kenreimon gate main gate of the Imperial palace, only used for important rituals such as enthronement and Emperor and national guests can pass through this gate.

人通りも少なく気持ちがいいです。I was able to walk freely with very few visitors.

南北約450m、東西250mの築地塀。Earthen wall surrounding the palace which 450m from north to south and 250m from east to west.

御所内に入ると優雅な御車寄に目を奪われます。高位の貴族などが参内した際に儀式や天皇との対面のために使用した玄関です。 I was attracted by elegant shape of a carriage porch, Okurumayose, exclusively used for high ranking courtiers when they attend court rituals or had an audience with the emperor.

朱塗りの月華門と左に紫宸殿 Gekkamon, vermilion gate, one of the naikaku-mon gates that comprised the dairi and roof of Shishinden.

承明門から見た紫宸殿　Shishinden from Jomeimon gate

紫宸殿はシンプルな作りですが威厳を感じます。I was able to feel dignity of the most important but simple design building, Shishinden.

健春門　皇后陛下や皇太子殿下が通られる門　優雅な形です。　Kenshunmon gate, a gate  for Empress or Crown Prince, Elegant shape gate

残念ながら清涼殿は改修中で見られなかったですが、お庭や御常御殿などを見て古の優雅な世界に触れることができました。 Unfortunately, I could watch Seiryoden because of under repairment, but I enjoyed inner gardens and Imperial residential Palace, Otsunegoten and felt ancient elegant atmosphere by them.

京都１日観光 鉄板観光地駆け巡り（その１）Hopping around 1 day in Kyoto, must to go tourist spots (No.1)

１日だけ時間が取れたので、久しぶりに京都を訪ねました。鉄板といわれる有名どころばかりを大急ぎで回りましたが、平日で観光客も少なく効率的にまわれました。I had luckily one day off and visit to Kyoto after my private business in Osaka, this is the first time after about 10 years. I could visit some tourists called must to visit smoothly and effectively since still few tourists now in Kyoto.

まずは開かずの門だった蛤御門から入って 御所のある京都御苑に。正式名は「新在家御門（しんざいけごもん）」で開かずの門として知られ、火事の時だけは開いたため、固く閉じていたものが火にあぶられて開いたことをハマグリになぞらえて「蛤御門」という俗称が付けられたとされています。

Starting from Kyoto Gyoen National garden through famous Hamaguri Gomon Gate, literally Clam gate, the gate known as unopened except in a case of fire, so opened like heated clam. The official name is Shinzaemon.

旧宮家、閑院宮邸へ。優雅な形の東門をくぐります。 I visited Kan’in-no-miya residence, former one of the imperial families’ residencethrough elegant shape of East gate.

出水の小川に沿って散策して、上皇陛下の御所である仙洞御所・大宮御所へ。

I moved to Sento Imperial palace strolling along a Demiz-no-small river. The Sento place was served as a residence for the Emperor Emeritus and the next Omiya palace was built for Empress Dowager.

大宮御所御常御殿、明治5年まで英照皇太后のお住まいでしたが、現在は天皇皇后陛下や上皇上皇后陛下が入洛された際のご宿舎として用いられているそうです。

The palace where Empress Dowager Eisho lived in 19the century. Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress and Their Majesties the Emperor Emeritus and Empress Emerita stay at this Palace during royal visits.

仙洞御所庭園の北池 North pond in Sento Imperial Palace.

又新亭（ゆうしんてい）、茅葺と杮葺の茶室で落ち着いた雰囲気です。Yushintei, a teahouse with thatch and shingle roof

南池の景色。州浜といわれる玉石を敷き詰めた岸辺と藤棚に覆われた八つ橋や多くの橋が特徴的です。South pond scene, shoreline called "suhama" with laid down flat and oval stones and some bridges including zig zag bridge called Yatsuhashi covered by wisteria vines.

醒花亭（せいかてい）煎茶式の接待作法を図式化した三店(酒店、飯店、茶店)を楽しむことができるそうです。この醒花亭からの南池の景色が一つ前の写真です。Teahouse Seikatei, designed for tea ceremony of Sencha (middle class green tea) and enjoyable for tea, meal and drink sake. The view from this teahouse to south pond is a previous one.

大宮御所　前庭の松。御所透かしという横から下に広がる剪定だそうです。Pine tree on the front garden of Omiya palace. Pruning called "Gosyo sukashi" to form branches horizontal and downward style.

仙洞御所　正門　皇族の方か国賓級の方が来た時しか開かない正門です。Main gate of Sento palace, only open fro the Imperial family or national guest.

次は御所です。 My trip will be continued to go to the Imperial Palace.

秋川渓谷でまったりしました。I relaxed at Akikawa ravine

東京都下にありながら自然豊かな秋川渓谷、我が家からも約40㎞1時間半のドライブで着きます。I drove to Akikawa ravine, far west of Tokyo metropolitan area, 40km and 1hour half drive from my home.

手作りのこんにゃくもお土産にいいですね。Handmade Konjac jelly  or Devil's tongue is good for delicious gift.

途中かなりの夕立に会いましたが、その分幻想的な景色も楽しむことができました。

最後は「うる肌」部門で全国1になった瀬音温泉でまったりリラックスしてきました。 And then I relaxed taking hot spring of Seoto spa which is very famous for making smooth skin.

三菱一号館美術館で子供が主役の展覧会を見てきました。I visited a exhibition focused on children at Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum

9月に入り少だけ涼しくなってきたので、三菱一号館美術館に行ってきました。 この建物、19世紀の終わりにジョサイア・コンドルの設計で三菱が東京・丸の内に初めて建築した洋風事務所です。一度は解体されましたが中庭を囲むように再建され素敵な美術館となっています。今回は19世紀終わりごろの印象派からナビ派の画家が描いた子供たちの絵を集めた展覧会でした。

As I can feel a lit bit cooler at just September, I visit an exhibition: Dreamed childhoods – Bonnard, the Nabis and childhood at Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, a building was designed in 1894 by the English architect Josiah Conder and constructed by Mitsubishi as the first Western-style office building in Tokyo’s Marunouchi district. The original structure was torn down once in 1968, but it has been reconstructed on the same lot according to Conder’s original plans.

今回は19世紀終わりごろの印象派からナビ派の画家が描いた子供たちの絵を集めた展覧会でした。作品は一部を除きほとんど紹介できませんが、それまであまり画材として取り上げられなかった子供たちが生き生きと描かれ、また、作品には浮世絵の影響を受けたものも多くみられ、興味深かったです。

The exhibition is focused on children painted mainly by the Nabis at the end of the nineteenth century. I can find interesting influences from Japanese Ukiyoe in some pictures although I cannot show them here. 

久しぶりに丸の内に行きましたが、少しずつ活気も戻ってきている感じで少し嬉しかったです。

It is my first visit after COVID19 in Marunouchi area and good for since I can feel vibrant feeling slightly in there.
