千川上水を散歩しました。I enjoy walking along Senkawa waterworks.

玉川上水から分かれ、武蔵野市と西東京市及び練馬区の境を流れる千川上水です。300年以上前に作られ、かつては六義園などへの給水のため豊島区の西巣鴨まで２２ｋｍに及ぶ上水路で飲料水や農業用水として使われたそうですが、今は上流の約５ｋｍの流れをみることができるので散歩してきました。

Senkawa waterworks, constructed more than 300 years ago, for supplying irrigation and urban water from Musashino city to Toshima area in Tokyo, it used be 22lm long but nowadays only 5km in upstream is open canal and the rest is culvert.

玉川上水からの取水口です。しばらくは、大きなケヤキやエノキの並木の中を進みます。清流とまでは言えませんが、下水を高度処理された水のせせらぎの横を散歩するのは気持ちがいいです。

It is a sluice gate from Tamagawa waterworks, and then water flows between big trees like zelkova or hackberry. It is not genuine clear water, it is actually highly treated sewage water, but sound of water flow makes me relax.

このあたりは、住宅街の中を流れます。このあたりで上水の北側（左側）は練馬区になります。右側は武蔵野市です。

In this area, water flows through residence area, and north-side (left side)of flows is now Nerima ward (Tokyo metropolitan city), and right side in Musashino city.

流れのそばに立つ、施餓鬼供養碑です。今は浅い流れですが、昔はこの流れで溺死する人も多く、特に子供たちの霊を供養する碑が建てられています。

A memorial monument for Segaki (which is namely for hungry ghosts'), actually for drowned person, particularly for children in the canal, which means the flow was much deeper than now.

このあたりが、まわりにキャベツ畑や屋敷林が広がり、千川上水の昔の風情を残している場所です。のんびりと散歩する人の姿も見られます。

Around here, landscape of countryside is spreading like cabbage fields and woods around farmers residences, and this area is most remaining atmosphere of old age. Many people are enjoying walking or jogging along the flows.

車の往来の多い、吉祥寺通りの千川橋を渡り、しばらくすると、青梅街道の下からは暗渠になります。そして千川通りとなり遊歩道の下を水が流れていきます。

After around 500m cross a busy street anmed Kichijyouji street on a Senkawa bridge, the cannal flow into culvert inder a Ome-street and then it changes to a promenade along with Senkawa street.

東京都薬用植物園に行ってきました。I visited Tokyo Metropolitan Medicinal Botanical Gardens

大阪在住の皆様、地震は大丈夫だったでしょうか？被害に会われた方に対し、お見舞い申し上げるとともに、一刻も早い復旧を祈念いたします。
I am concerning about safety of my friends and acquaintances who live in Osaka area. I would like to express my deepest compassion to all who suffered by the earthquake and wish to be restored earliest time.

さて、最近の週末は、植物園に行くことが多いのですが、小平にある、東京都薬用植物園に行ってきました。
By the way I often visit botanical garden in these days in week end, I visited Tokyo Metropolitan Medicinal Botanical Gardens last Sunday.

Meconopsis grandis/ Blue poppy/ メコノプシスグランディス
この植物園、薬草などの有用な植物や麻薬原料になるケシや大麻の栽培も行っていて、しかも入場無料で温室や冷房室の珍しい植物も見られる、植物好きには嬉しい施設です。

Cannabis/ Hemp/ タイマ
This facility cultivate and exhibit many herbs or medicinal plants as well as dangerous ones like poppy or hemp. Also I can watch many unique flowers in greenhouse free of charge.

Borago officinalis/ Borage/ ルリジサ ボリジ

ハーブの花たちを見ていると心が休みます。
I was saved by watching flowers of herbs

梅雨の合間の小石川の東大植物園に行ってきました。I visited Koishigawa botanical garden of Tokyo University

梅雨の合間ですが、小石川の東大植物園に行ってきました。この時期、あまり花は多くなかったですが、ニュートンが万有引力を発見したリンゴの木やメンデルが遺伝学の研究にも使った葡萄の木のクローン、それに植物では初めて精子が発見されたイチョウの木などが園内で若い実を実らせていました。

I visited Koishigawa botanical garden of Tokyo University in a fine day in rainy season. This season
I found few showy flowers but many young fruits, including interesting ones such as an apple tree from which Newton discovered Universal gravitation, or grape by which Mendel used for researching genetic inheritance. Other one is a Ginkgo tree from which the first zoospore was discovered from plant.

あまり花は多くなかったですが、バナナの仲間のチヨウキンレンやモクレンの仲間のタイサンボクが大きな花を咲かせていました。

I found large flowers like golden lotus banana or southern magnolia in a few flowers in the garden.

そして、紫陽花がいろいろな色と形で楽しませてくれました。

I was relieved by many shape and color by Hydrangea in the garden.

菖蒲祭り/ Japanese Iris festival

東村山の菖蒲祭りで梅雨前の貴重な休日を楽しんできました。東京もそろそろ梅雨入りしそうですが、ちょうど良い天気になった昨日、東村山の北山公園の菖蒲祭りに高校時代の友人たちと楽しんできました。

I enjoyed a fine day before the rainy season by visiting a Japanese Iris (Iris ensata) festival in Higashi Murayama city. According to a weather report, it will be starting a rainy season from the next week, but yesterday was a good day.

美しい菖蒲を少しだけ愛でたあとは、公園でお好みのお酒を飲みながら、昔話を楽しんできました。
With my friends of same high school, After we admired beauty of Iris, we enjoyed chatting by drinking favored drinks.
