古代の蓮に思いをはせて/ Wondering ancient time by watching an ancient lotus

6世紀頃の古墳が多く見られるさきたま古墳群。その近くの古代蓮の里で、1500年以上前の蓮が見ごろを迎えていると聞き、早起きして行ってきました。

Nelumbo nucifera/ Lotus/ ハス　蓮

I visited the Sakitama kofun-gun, famus of remaining many ancient tombs in 6th centuries and an ancient lotus garden near by located in north of Tokyo since ancient lotus are good time to see.

あいにくの雨模様でしたが、雨に濡れる蓮もなかなかのものです。
It was rain, but lotuses with rain drops were also good atmosoher.

たまった雨が花びらから零れ落ちます。(クリックすると写真は大きくなります）
Rain water was droping down from the petal.( you can see enlarged picture by clicking on)

蓮池の蓮たちは夜が明けると日が昇ると雨の中でも少しずつ開いていきます。

品種：大賀蓮（古代蓮）　午前5:30

品種：大賀蓮（古代蓮）　午前8:30

蓮にも多くの種類があり、色々な表情を楽しむことができました。白鳥のように可憐な姿です
I enjoyed many kind of lotus. Looks like white wing of swan.

品種：巨椋の白鳥

つぼみの花びらの先がほんのりとピンクに染まります。
Faint pink on white petals of bud.

品種：舞妃蓮

純白の白は王子の気品でしょうか。
LIke noble white of prince.

品種： 王子蓮

白い花びらが重なります。

品種： 白万々

白とピンクの混ざり具合が絶妙です。Good combination of pink and white.

品種： 明光蓮

花びらが剣のように尖っています。Like a shape sword.

品種：剣舞蓮

少し大型の蓮で、力強い感じです。

品種：インド蓮

こちらは大阪で見つかった古代蓮です。

品種：原始蓮（古代蓮）

そしてこれが行田の古代蓮です。濃いピンクが特徴です。

品種：行田蓮（古代蓮）

睡蓮も素敵ですが、今回は蓮の脇役の感じです。
Water-lily is also beautiful, but cannot be a main actor this time.

敷地内のタワーの上からも蓮田を見ることができます。
From a view-tower in the garden, we can see overview of lotus ponds.

所沢のユリ園 Garden of lilies in Tokorozawa

所沢のユリ園でスカシユリを見てきました。ほのかな香りを感じながら、雑木林の中のスカシユリを楽しんできました。
I visited a lily garden in Tokorozawa. My wife and I sauntered in a woods watching full blooming lilies as well as faint fragrant in there. This lily is called “Thunberg lily”, Asiantic hybrid or Sukashiyuri in Japanses.

ユリは交配も進み、色の種類も多く、見分けるのが難しいのですが、茎のてっぺんで、上向きに咲き、花びらの根元がやや透けるのが「透かしユリ」の特徴だそうです。

It could be difficult to distinguish varieties of lilies as many cultivars have been developed by crossing original species and many color petals can be seen. The sukashiyuri is identified as blooming upright on the stem and base of petals can be separated.

スカシユリにもいろんな色あるのを知りました。
I could recognize many colors were in "Sukashiyuri".

このオレンジが一番、一般的な色でしょうか。
It coulle be most popular color, orange.

Lilium maculatum (Lilium × elegans)/ Thunberg Lily ・　Asiatic Hybrid lily/ スカシユリ

白のスカシユリは清楚な感じです。I can feel pureness from a white lily.

一転して深紫のゆりは妖艶な感じです。　And then, it is a fascinating dark purple lily.

ピンクのゆりは可愛らしいですね。　Pink lilies are charming.

訪れた時（6月17日）はオレンジ色の花がきれいでしたが、品種によって咲くピークが少しずつ違うようです。
When I visited the garden, orange one was best time but changing best time color by color gradually.

皇居東御苑で出会った実や花 Flowers and fruits in the East Garden of the Imperial Palace

一つ前の記事で皇居東御苑のことを書きましたが、今回は東御苑で出会った花や実のことを少しまとめてみました。ここには公園として色々な木や花も植えられていますが、雑木林を残したり江戸時代の古い果実の品種なども積極的に植えられています。
As I wrote on the east garden generally, but this time I would focus on some flowers and fruit in the garden. In the garden, many garden flowers and fruit tree are planted also natural wold woods and old traditional fruit varieties are conserved as well.

そして、東御苑のホームページには、園内の見ごろの花や実が記されたマップが公開されているので、このマップを持って園内を散策すれば、普段は気づきにくい花や実も簡単に見つけることができます。
And you can find trees or flowers for which best time to see easily by downloading a map from website of this garden, address of the website is here.

例えば、このヒメコウゾの実、小さな赤い実ですが、よく見ると桑の実に似ています。小さな実なのでマップがなければ、見つけるのは難しかったでしょうね。
This tiny red berry of "small paper mulberry" similar to mulberry and used be as a paper material, I can find a place of tree easily using map provided by the website.

Broussonetia kazinoki (Broussonetia monoica) / Small paper mulberry/ ヒメコウゾ

キンギンボク（金銀木）はスイカズラのような花を咲かせるそうですが、今は赤いひょうたん型の実をつけていて、別名瓢箪木と呼ばれているのも納得です。
A flower of Morrow’s honeysuckle is resembling flower of honeysuckle but has unique shape of berry is looks like gourd-shaped and called "hyoutanboku" meaning gourd tree.

ヤマモモの実は、丁度色が変わる時で、素敵な写真をとることができました。
I was able to take good shots of colorful Chinese bayberry, which has many colors by different matuturing stages.

ニワウメの赤い実も美味しそうに熟しています。
Berry of Japanese bush berry can be tasted very good.

Prunus japonica (Cerasus japonica)/ Japanese bush cherry/ ニワウメ

日本の古い果物の品種を集めた果樹古品種園に植えられていたリンゴ（和林檎）や桃です。今は、ほとんど栽培されていないので、とても貴重なものだと思います。
In a orchard for old Japanese varieties, such conserved Japanese apples or peaches are important for visitors as well as Japanese culture.

Malus asiatica /Chinese pearleaf crabapple/ ワリンゴ　品種名：　加賀藩在来

Amygdalus persica L　(Prunus persica )/ Peach/ モモ　品種名：薬缶

そして、花も小さなユキノシタや咲き始めたヤマハギなどもマップがないとなかなか見つけるのは難いかったですね。

It could be very tough to find small flowers in woods such as strawberry geranium or bush clover without the map.

Saxifraga stolonifera/ Strawberry Geranium/ ユキノシタ

Lespedeza bicolor/ Bush clover/ ハギ・ヤマハギ

花菖蒲はマップがなくても見つけられますが、マップがあったほうが、効率的に園内を回ることができて便利です。
May be I could find Japanese iris without map,it is certainly useful to make walking plan in the garden with this map.

皇居東御苑 The East Garden of the Imperial Palace

皇居東御苑は、職場の比較的近くにあるのですが、昼休みに訪ねるには少し広すぎて、かといって休日に出かける機会もなく、これまであまり訪ねたことがなかったのですが、菖蒲が綺麗な時期ということで先週の週末に行ってきました。

The east garden is located in relatively near my office, but too large to visit in lunch time break and have no opportunity in weekend ever. Last weekend I had a chance to visit since I heard Japanese Iris is just good time to see.

堀を渡って入ってくと大手門から中に入れます。同人番所や百人番所といった建物の前を抜けて、城内に入ります。

After passing through a bridge over main moat and a main gate “Otemon” you can go though into the part of a former Edo castle. Firstly you can walk though in front of some guard houses called “doujin bansyo” or “hyakunin bansyo” and then go into core part of the castle.

本丸跡は綺麗な芝生になっていて気持ちがいいです。そして天主台も石垣だけですが、上に登って大奥跡などの眺めもよいです。

You can be relax on lawn on the place used be a main compound of the castle “honmaru” and climb up a used citadel with stone wall and look down from there over another lawn where used be an “Ouoku” a complex of ladies for serving a lord or shogunate.

菖蒲田もこじんまりしてますが、ちょうど色々な菖蒲が綺麗です。

A wet field for Japanese iris is not so large but good to admire its beaty.

庭園内には色々な花が咲いていましたが、ちょうど春に咲いた花の実がなり始めていました。
I can find many flowers in the garden as well as fruits and berries that bloomed in spring time.

Morella rubra/ Chinese bayberry/ ヤマモモ

牧野博士の植物図展 Exhibition of plant picture by Dr. Makino

練馬大泉にある、牧野記念庭園のことは以前、記事にしましたが、そこで牧野博士の植物図の特別展が開かれているので、ちょっと行ってきました。
You may remember other article on Dr. Makino memorial garden about one month ago, this time I visited again for watching special exhibition of his botanical drawings.

展示室では、牧野博士の若いころの精密な植物図など貴重な資料がいっぱいです。展示室内は撮影禁止なので、ポスターだけを貼り付けます。詳細は

この表情からは、これほど精密な絵を書いた人とは思えませんが、人間的にもすごく魅力的なひとだったようです。

Contracting his drawings, his pictures shows his unique and open-minded character, I was very attracted by him.

牧野博士の絵を見た後は、庭をゆっくり散策です。少しだけ植物を見る目が変わった気がします。
After I watched his arts, I enjoyed walking in the garden, I recognized my eyes to plants could be a little bit influenced by him.

新緑の浜離宮庭園 Hamarikyu garden in fresh green leaves
