今年ももう残りわずかになりました。本年の最後の画像は３日ほど前の東京タワーです。
We will have just a few hours for this year. The last picture of this year is Tokyo tower and this is talen three days before.

スカイツリーに高さではかなり差をつけられましたが、この優雅な姿は、人をひきつけるものがあります。
The Tokyo tower is now behind the Tokyo Sky Tree in its height but this elegant shape could be superior.

増上寺とのツーショットも日本らしくて好きです。そしてお地蔵さんの姿も。
I love its picture with Zojyoji temple since reflecting modern Tokyo style.

夜空に浮かぶ姿も素敵ですね。一本一本の鉄骨をリベットで繋いで鳶職人が作ったそうです。
「東京タワーは日本の職人が、スカイツリーは日本の技術が作った」と言った人がいるそうです。

I love also night scene of the tower. The tower was constructed by steeplejacks fixing each steel using rivets one by one. I heard someone said that the Tokyo tower was constructed by Japanese craftsman and Tokyo Sky Tree was made by Japanese technology.

そして、東京タワーからの富士山の画像で本年のブログを締めたいと思います。

小石川植物園/ Koishikawa Botanical Garden of Tokyo University

東京大学の付属植物園である小石川植物園は、もともとは江戸幕府の薬草園（御薬園）と作られた日本でも有数の歴史ある植物園で、一般にも開放され貴重な植物なども展示されています。

Koishikawa Botanical Garden belonging to Tokyo University is not only the oldest in Japan, but also have a prominent and long history originated as the Koishikawa Medicinal Herb Garden, which was established in 1684 by the Tokugawa Shogunate. There are many historic plants and ruins that indicate the long history of the Botanical Gardens.

春の桜の季節などは、大勢の人で賑わいますが、今は花も少なく訪れる人も少なく、ちょうど小春日和でのんびりとした雰囲気が漂っています。

It seems many visitors come during spring to summer such as cherry blossoms season, but now even a warm and fine day few visitors come and enjoy in calm atmosphere.

残念ながら、温室は改装中で、そのこともあって冬は訪れる人が少ないのでしょう。

Unfortunately since a greenhouse is now under renovation, which is one reason few people come.

植物も秋の実が中心ですが、それでも、蝋梅、梅、それに寒桜もなんと咲き始めていました。

In the colorless scene, a few fruits can be seen but I can find a wax flower,a Japanese apricot and Kanzakura; early spring cherry variety in the garden.

花は少ないですが、秋の実を食べに来る鳥たちを見るには良い季節のようです。ところどころに立派なカメラを構えた人が鳥を待ち構えていました。私のカメラでは、これが精一杯です。

ナンキンハゼを食べにきたシジュウカラ

Although few flowers can be seen, it could be good season to watch birds coming to eat fruits on the tree. I can see many cameraman are setting their high quality cameras for taking good shoots of birds. I also tried but it could be best shoot my camera.

冬枯れの植物園も悪くはないですが、やはり春になってもう一度来ないといけませんね。
Botanical garden in winter is not so bad, but I wish to come here again in spring time.

冬の小石川後楽園/ Koishikawa-korakuen garden in winter

初夏の花菖蒲の頃に訪れて以来、久しぶりに小石川後楽園を訪ねてみました。園内はすっかり冬景色です。

This is the first time more than six months after I visited during full blooming season of Japanese Iris.

園内の植物も花が目立つのは山茶花くらいのもので、この時期は、色づいた果実が中心ですね。

Camellia sasanqua/ Christmas camellia/ サザンカ

Sarcandra glabra/ Chloranthus/ センリョウ

Gardenia jasminoides/ Cape jessamine/ クチナシ

Except a Christmas camellia, I cannot expect eye-catching flowers but some colored fruits in this season.

しかし、ふと見ると蝋梅の蕾がほころび始めていました。冬にしては穏やかな日差しで、蝋梅の蕾も開き始めたようです。

Chimonanthus praecox/ Japanese allspice/ ロウバイ

However, I found buds of Japanese allspice just started to bloom thanks to gentle whether of the Christmas day.

この庭園、水戸徳川家ゆかりの由緒あるところなので、塀の瓦にもちゃんと徳川家の紋が入っています。

Since the garden was built by noble family relative to Tokugawa shogun general, crest of Tokugawa is engraved in roof-top tile on walls.

ただ、すぐ横は東京ドームなので、見る場所によっては、ちょっと不思議な光景になります。
そして遊園地で遊ぶ人たちの歓声でせせらぎの音も時々かき消されするのも、一興というところでしょうか。

However, next to the garden is a baseball and amusement park, scene from some angles could be strange mixture of traditional and modern Japanese scene. And sometime, the sound of shallow stream can be drown out by shout of guests of amusement park.

一両の実も見つけました/ I found a fruit tree of Ichi-ryo (one-ryo plant)

先日、白金台の国立科学博物館附属自然教育園で見かけた万両や千両の記事を書いたときは一両の実はないと思っていましたが、このたび上野池之端の旧岩崎邸庭園で、蟻通し（アリドオシ）という低木が別名一両と呼ばれていることを知りました。

About one week ago, I wrote an article about lucky name fruits of Manryo, Senryo, Hyakuryo and jyuryo, which are Japanese meaning of Ten-thousand, Thousand, Hundred and Ten Ryo; Ryo is old Japanese currency unit before Yen introduced. I was wondering Ichiryo (One-ryo) fruit was not existed that time, but I found an one-ryo fruit is also existing, when I visited a former Iwasaki's residence and garden in Ueno ikenohata, Tokyo.

この蟻通しという名前は、細かな棘があり、蟻をも刺してしまうことから蟻通しと呼ばれているそうですが、万両や千両の木と一緒だと「万両、千両有り通し」と目出度いので庭木として植えられることもあるそうです。なんともすごい語呂合わせです。

Damnacanthus indicus/ Indian Damnacanthus/ アリドオシ イチリョウ

The official Japanese name of this plant (Damnacanthus indicus) is called “Aridoshi” which means thin thorn piercing tiny ant but also has same pronunciation of meaning of always existing. Therefore the plants are sometimes planted with rich name plants such as Manryo and Senryo. This is a kind of a playing on words.

語呂あわせといえば、南天も「難を転じて福となす」ということで好まれることが良く知られています。

Nandina domestica/ Nandina/ ナンテン

Also a nandina (Nandina domestica) called in Japanese as “Nanten” has lucky meaning of “overturning of misfortune” and loved to be planted in gardens.

あいにく旧岩崎邸の本館は来年の３月まで補修工事中でその優雅な姿は見られませんでしたが、この一両の木を見たことで、先日の万両、千両、百両、十両と併せて全ての両がそろい踏みとなり、南天の木も近くで見られたので、早速、年末ジャンボ宝くじを少しだけ買ってみました。

Unfortunately, a elegant mansion of former Iwasaki family (one of the richest family in Japan) could not been seen because of under renovation until next March. However I could find nandina tree and every rich name tree of Ichiryo as well as Manryo, Senryo, Hyakuryo and jyuryo and I went a box office for buying year-end big lottery ticket.

ところで、この一両ですが今のお金にするとどのくらいになるのでしょうか？色々な換算があるようですが、５万円から４０万円くらいになるようです。仮に１０万とすると、いわゆる千両役者とは１億円の稼ぎのあった役者さんということのようです。宝くじ、一両でもいいので当たって欲しいものです。

By the way, how much can be evaluated old one-ryo in modern Japanese yen? It could be from 50 thousands yen to 400 thousands yen depends on price of commodities. If you can use 100 thousands yen rate for one ryo, income of thousand ryo actor (Senryo yakusya; a top class kabuki actor) can be estimated100 miliion yen earning for one year. I wonder one-ryo price of lottery can be enough lucky for my holiday season!

クリスマスも近づきましたので、最後はクリスマスローズの花で、メリークリスマス。
今回の記事の英文は通じるのかどうか心配ですね。

月と東京タワー クリスマスイルミネーション Moon and Tokyo tower with a special light-up for Holiday season.

東京タワーの横から昇ってくる、うす曇りの中のお月さんを見た時、もしかしたら・・・と思って、アパートの最上階の非常階段から試しに撮ってみました。コンパクトデジカメですが、シャッタースピードと絞りを変えながら、何枚か試しに撮ってみました（これまで何度がトライしましたが、なかなか良い写真がとれなくて）。

Today, when I saw half moon rising from back of a Tokyo tower in slightly cloudy sky, I was wondering it could be good chance to take good photos. I had been trying again and again by changing F stop and shutter speed but it was not sucessful.

これが、今日のベストショットです（自分ではそう思っています）。
This is a best shot of tonight, fortunately it was special light-up for holiday season.

絞値/F stop f/8, Shutter spped 1/6 ISO-400

シャッタースピードを上げると、月は綺麗に写りますが、タワーが暗くなります。
With high speed shutter, moon can be seen good but the tower was a little bit dark.

絞値/F stop f/8, Shutter spped 1/15 ISO-400

そしてスピードを遅くすると、月が明るくなりすぎます。なかなかうまくいきません。
でも、なんとか気に入れる写真が撮れてよかったです。
When I slowed down shutter speed, moon can be too blight. But I was satisfied with my some shots of the moon and Tokyo tower.

実りの秋 赤い実 万両、千両、そして、 / Lucky small red fruits in late autumn, Manryo, Senryo, and more

前の記事で白金台の自然教育園の紅葉を紹介しましたが、今回は小さな実をつけている植物を紹介します。
In the last article, I showed autumn color leaves in a botanical garden in Shirokanedai, Tokyo. This time, I will introduce some plats having small fruits like berries in this season.

まずは、万両です。その縁起の良い名前から、庭木や生け花に使われます。赤い実が葉の下に垂れ下がるのが特徴です。

Ardisia crenata/ Christmas berry/ マンリョウ

Manryo; Japanese meaning of ten thousand ryo, and ryo is old currency unit before Japanese Yen, and this plant is popular by such rich and lucky name and commonly used as gardening plant or flower arrangement. You can distinguish it by many fruits are hanging under their leaves.
Manryo (Ardisia crenata) is called as Christmas berry in English.

そして、千両。こちらも万両と同様、目出度い名前で良く庭木に植えられます。万両と違い、実が葉の上になるのが特徴です。黄色い実の千両もあります。

Sarcandra glabra/Chloranthus/ センリョウ
And then Senryo; meaning of thousand ryo, also loved by Japanese people by their lucky name. Fruits of Senryo are above their leaves. It has also yellow berries of Senryo.
Senryo (Sarcandra glabra) is sometimes called as Chloranthus in English.

そして、唐橘（カラタチバナ）の実、この植物は別名、百両とも呼ばれます。万両・千両に比べると少し控えめな感じでしょうか？

Ardisia crispa/カラタチバナ/

This flower is called Ardisia crispa, and Japanese name is Karatachibana or Hyakuryo, which means hundred ryo. This berries looks a little bit moderate comparing previous ones.

万両、千両、百両とくれば、やはり十両ですね。この植物は藪柑子（ヤブコウジ）という名前ですが、十両とも呼ばれます。やはりかなり控えめな感じですね。

Ardisia japonica/ ヤブコウジ

Next is Jyuryo, ten ryo, after ten thousand ryo, thousand ryo and hundred ryo. Official Japanese name is called Yabukouji (Ardisia japonica) and sometimes called Jyuryo. The plants looks much moderate than previous ones.

これらの目出度い名前の実の他にもいくつかの実が熟していました。
I was able to enjoy watching some other fruits and berries.

ゴンズイの実は目を引きますが、あまり鳥には人気がないようですね。

Euscaphis japonica/ゴンズイ
Red and black berries of Euscaphis japonica looks very beautiful but might not be popular for birds.

一方、マユミの実はほとんど鳥に食べられているようです。

Euonymus hamiltonianus/Hamilton's spindletree/マユミ
Other hands, fruits of Hamilton's spindletree could be eaten by birds.

枯れ木の中の、飯桐（イイギリ）のオレンジ色が目を引きます。

Idesia polycarpa/ Idesia/ イイギリ
Orange clusters of Idesia in dry woods were very eye-catching.

そして、少しびっくりしたのが、この武蔵鐙（ムサシアブミ）、最初は木の上から実が落ちているのかと思いましたが、草の実が残っていたのですね。調べてみると花も相当変わっているようです。今度は春に花を探してみたいですね。

And I was surprised when I found red clusters of Arisaema ringens on the ground. I was wondering they might be fallen from trees, but they are on top of grasses after strange shape of flowers that I had never watched.

冬の国立科学博物館附属自然教育園 / An Institute for nature study of National museum of Nature and Science in winter

白金台にあるこの自然教育園、夏に一度訪ねたことがあったのですが、なかなか季節が変わっても行けずにいました。たまたま広尾に用事があったので、少し足を伸ばして園内に。

The institute located in Shirokanedai, I visited there the first time after I visited in the last summer.

紅葉が随分と進んでいましたが、天気も良くて、今年最後の紅葉狩りを楽しめました。
The best season could be passed, but still I could enjoy many variety of colors of leaves in the garden.

Acer/ Maple/ カエデ

Toxicodendron succedaneum/ Japanese wax tree/ ハゼノキ

Kalopanax septemlobus/ prickly castor oil tree/ ハリギリ

都心にいるとは思えない風情があります。
I was able to feel somewhere in mountain side but not in downtown in Tokyo.

さすがに花はほとんど咲いていませんでしたが、柊の花がひっそりと。
In the garden, very few flowers were blooming, but I was able to find white tiny flowers of Holly osmanthus.

Osmanthus heterophyllus/ Holly osmanthus/ ヒイラギ

その代わりに、赤い実を付けた木々が多かったです。赤い実のことは次の回に報告します。
I would like to report of some red fruits in the garden in the next report.

大阪 中ノ島あたりを散策/ Walking around Nakanoshima park in Osaka city

大阪出張の合間に少しだけ中ノ島公園あたりを散策しました。大阪には時々立ち寄りますが、中ノ島公園を訪ねるのは30年以上ぶりでしょうか。

I strolled Nakanoshima park in Osaka short time during my business trip.　I often stay in Osaka but the first time to visit this park more than 30years.

中ノ島の先からは、噴水というか放水が行われていました。
At the edge of Nakanoshimama, a small islands in a river, a water gun or fountain was splashing water to the river.

しばらくすると、水陸両用のバスが通過します。

An unique bus, which can move on both water and land, was passing through.

残念ながら、花の季節ではなかったのですが、わずかに残った薔薇や山茶花を眺めながら御堂筋まで。

It was not good time to watch roses or flowers, I was walking through by watching some remaining roses or Christmas camellia to a street of Midosuji.

そして、御堂筋の銀杏の黄色にライトアップの青色が重なります。

And I enjoyed to see blue lights of Christmas decoration with yellow leaves of gingko trees on the street.

年の瀬が近づいてきました。
I can feel year ead will come soon.
