旧古河庭園 夏 Former Furukawa garden in summer

約１００年前に和洋折衷の庭園として整備された古河庭園。丘の上には英国洋式の洋館とバラ園
が、丘の麓には多くの灯篭を配した日本庭園が整備されています。

Former Furukawa garden was reformed as well balanced Western and Japanese style garden with British style mansion almost 100 years ago in Taisyo era. On the top of a hill, western style rose garden is surrounding the mansion, and foot of the hill Japanese style garden with stone lanterns is arranged.

春と秋のバラの時期には多くの人が訪れますが、今の時期は、訪れる人も少なく、その分ゆっくりと庭を散策することができます。

The garden is popular for rose garden and many visitors are coming in spring and autumn, but in summer time I was able to stroll in the garden with few visitors.

建物の中には、ガイドツアーに参加するか、喫茶室を利用すると入ることができますが、内部の撮影は禁止されています。

You can enter into the building by joining a guide tour or take a rest in a tea/coffee room. But it is not allowed to take photos inside the mansion.

バラは秋のシーズンに向け剪定の最中でした、また秋にも来てバラと洋館の組み合わせも楽しみたいですね。

Now, since gardeners were pruning for autumn roses, I would like to come again for admiring beautiful autumn roses with backdrop of the old mansion.

日がえり出張、機窓から /One-day duty trip from a plane window

昨日は、福岡に日帰り出張でした。気の重い仕事でしたが、整備スタッフの姿に励まされ、さあ出発です。

Yesterday, I had an one-day trip to Fukuoka with tough mission, I started the trip encouraged by such attitudes of airport staffs.

慌しい仕事を終え、夕日に追われるように帰途に。東京の夜景が迎えてくれました。週末は少しゆったりとする予定です。

After heavy-duty in Fukuoka, I was on the return way in sun-set view. And beautiful night view welcomed me back.

８月の花 ススキ Flower of August, Susuki；Chinese silver grass

まだまだ暑い日が続きますが、お盆が過ぎるとススキの穂も出始めて少し秋の雰囲気が出てきました。

There are still hot days in Tokyo, but I can feel autumn air very slightly by watching spike of Chinese silver grass after Obon festival.
花札では８月の花はススキです。これは旧暦８月の中秋の名月からきていますが、今年の中秋の名月は新暦では９月１５日だそうです。きれいな月が見られるといいですね。

Flower of August in Hanahuba, Japanese flower playing cards, is a susuki, Chinese silver grass, since it is an indispensable flower for mid-autumn harvest moon festival on August 15th in old lunatic calendar. The moon festival of this year in current calendar will be 15th of September. I hope we will be able to see a beautiful full moon in that time.

自転車とバイクのマナーと「だろう運転」/Selfish and irresponsible driving of bicycle and motorbike

先日、近所の交差点で交通事故に巻き込まれました。その時、私の車は、信号のある交差点で前の車に続いて左折をしようとしていました。そして、前の車と私の車の間に割り込むように自転車が突っ込んで来たので、ブレーキを踏み停車しました。

I had trouble with a bicycle and a motorbike in a crossroad near my house recently. At that time, I was turning left following previous car and found a bicycle was running into in front of me, and had to step on the break.

その直後に私の車の右後方でゴンという音がしました。後から来たバイクが私の車に追突したのです。ちょうど下の図のような形です。
Just that time, I heard a sound of “bang” from back, a motorbike hit on right-back side of my car. You can find a picture showing a my accident.

自転車は、横断歩道上なので、当然、私は止まるだろうと思い、突っ込んできたのでしょう。そして車にバイクがぶつかった音を聞き、一瞬こちらを振り返りましたが、関係ないというような顔をして、そのまま走り去りました。

A rider of bicycle should be thinking I must stop on a zebra zone. When he heard a sound of crush,　he glanced back once, but run away looked like he had no responsibility to the accident.

もっとひどいのは、後からぶつかって来たバイクです。私の車が左折するだろうと思い直進したところ、私の車が止まったので、ブレーキが間に合わずにぶつかってしまったのでしょう。そして交差点を渡ったところで、一度止まってこちらを見ていましたが、信号が変わって、こちらが追いかけられないと分かると、そのまま走り去ったのです。いわゆる当て逃げです。

A rider of motorbike was more disgusting! He might be thinking I would run through without stopping, but he hit my car when I stopped. Then he stop once opposite of the crossroad, but he run away when the signal had changed and I could not chase. So, He made a hit and run!

現場に残された私は、仕方なく一人で、近くの交番に事故の説明に行きました。車の修理のために保険を使うとすれば、事故証明が必要になるかと思ったからです。
対応してくれたお巡りさんは、私には過失はないけれど、相手が逃げたので、車の修理に保険を使うとすれば、私の車両保険を使わざるを得ないだろうと言って、事故調書を作ってくれました。

I had to go to a police box for reporting the accident for asking make a accident report necessary to insurance applying. A policeman said I had no responsibility for the accident but I had to use my car insurance for repairing my car since the rider of motorbike had run away.

その後、車屋さんと相談したのですが、車両保険の免責や来年の掛け金のことを考えると、保険を使わずに修理したほうがよいということになり、約４万円の出費となってしまいました。
After consultation with a car shop clerk, I decided not using my insurance considering premiums of next year and deductible. And I had to pay nearly 40 thousand JPY without compensation.

結局、自転車の「車は止まるだろう」と、バイクの「左折するだろう」の２つの「だろう」のお陰で、私は４万円のお金と、交番での手続きや、車屋さんとの相談なので１日以上の貴重な時間を費やすことになりました。

I must be a victim of two different assumptions of two riders; “I should stop” and “ I should go” and I had to spend 40 thousand JPY and almost one day for reporting and negotiation with car shop.

いろいろと腹立たしいことはありますが、私と家族に怪我がなかったこと、それに私が加害者にならなかったことがせめてもの救いと思うことにしました。

今回の事故では、結果としては、私だけが割りを喰った形になりましたが、こうした「だろう」運転をしている自転車やバイクの運転手の方々には、自分の身を危険にさらしていることをよく考えて頂きたいと思います。

I am still angry for the riders who did not take their own responsibilities, but I change my mind I should think I must be lucky that my family and I had no injury and I can escape my risk to become a offender.
But I would like to make caution to all riders who drive with selfish assumption that such assumption might hurt yourselves in someday.

涼ときれいな水を求めて/ Explore to clean and cool water in mountain

暑い日が続きますね。今年のお盆は遠出が出来なくて、丹沢方面に小旅行を楽しんできました。
まずは、神奈川県山北町の洒水の滝（しゃすいのたき）へ、金太郎さんで有名な足柄山のふもとにあります。国道２４６号から少し山に入って、駐車場からも１０分足らずで、高さ１００ｍ近い滝に到着です。滝つぼまではいけませんが、十分に爽やかな空気を楽しむことができます。

During hot days in Tokyo, I made a one-day trip to Tanzawa mountain area in Kanagawa pref. next to Tokyo. Firstly I visited a fall named “Syasui” in Yamakita town mount-foot of Ashigara, which is famous hero of Kintaro in old days. Just few minutes drive from route 246 and 10 minutes walk from a parking lots, you can find beautiful fall nearly 100m height. I could enjoy cool and fresh air surrounding the fall.

その後、少し東京方面に戻り、秦野市の中心から県道７０号線でヤビツ峠に向かいます。峠の少し手前に展望台があり、なかなかの景色です。

After just 30 minutes return back to Tokyo by route 246, I drove up to Yabitsu ridge from Hadano city. From a sightseeing tower on the peak, you can see edge of Kanto plain.

そして峠を越えて少しいったところに、護摩屋敷の水と呼ばれる水汲み場があります。生水のままでは飲めませんが、家に帰って煮沸してお茶やコーヒーをいれて楽しんでいます。

And then after the peak, I got a natural pure water from water place. It was said raw water not suitable to drink directly, I made tea or coffee by using boiled water.

水汲み場の近くで、可愛いハート形の葉の自然のリースを見つけました。
I found a natural wreath of heart shaped leaves. 　

身近な場所ですが、どちらも名水百選にも選ばれています。

九品仏浄真寺の鷺草 White egret flower in Jyoshinji Temple in Setagaya

世田谷の奥沢にある浄真寺に行って、鷺草を見てきました。
世田谷区の花になっている鷺草、昔は区内の湿地に多く見られたそうですが、今は、この浄真寺等限られた場所でしか見られないようです。

Pecteilis radiata/White Egret Flower/サギソウ

I went to a Jyoshinji temple in Okuzawa, Setagaya to watch a unique flower named white egret flower.
The flower is selected as a flower of Setagaya ward since many egret flowers used be seen everywhere in Setagaya ward but nowadays it can be seen in only few places including Jyoshinji temple.

立派な山門をくぐり、鷺草のデザインの手水舎で手を清めます。

You can reach a unique decorated cyouzuya, place for ritual cleansing of hands and mouth with water before worship, with ornament of white egret flower after going through a sublime temple gate.

釈迦如来の安置された本堂の裏側に小さな湿地が作られ、そこに鷺草が咲いていました。

Just backyard of a main hall where a statue of Goutama Buddha is enshrined, white egret flowers were blooming in a small constructed wetland.

この花の姿をみれば、名前のとおりの花だと納得します。
You may understand why the flower is called a “white egret flower” when you see the figure.

向島百花園・夏 A Mukojima-Hyakkaen garden in summer

町人文化が花開いた江戸時代末期、骨董商により作られた向島百花園。お盆の暑い時期に訪ねてきました。

The Mukojima-Hyakkaen garden was established as a private garden by a wealthy antique dealer during end of Edo era when urban culture of edo was peak. A “Hyakkaen” means a hundred flower garden in Japanese. I visited there during hottest season of “Obon”, religious festival period praying for ancestors.

平日の昼下がり、さすがに暑くて訪れる人もまばらです。
Few people visited there in the hot mid afternoon day.

気温は高いですが、秋の七草が咲いて、秋の気配を少しだけ感じられます。
Although high temperature, I was able to feel autumn favor by watching some typical autumn flowers called “Akino-nanakusa” (Seven flowers in autumn).

Platycodon grandiflorus/Balloon flower/キキョウ

Patrinia scabiosifolia/Patrinia/オミナエシ

Miscanthus sinensis/Chinese silver grass/ススキ

Eupatorium japonicum/Thoroughwort/フジバカマ

萩はまだもう少しでしょうか。
Peak of a bush clover will be later.

Lespedeza bicolor/Bush clover/ハギ・ヤマハギ 名札も少し風流です。
A nameplate of flower has also some elegant flavor.

日本の原点 日本橋 Nihonbashi; Japanese meaning is Japan bridge, starting point of Japan

日本橋の近くに行く用事があり、久しぶりに日本橋を訪ねてみました。昔の東海道、そして今の国道１号線の起点です。

After long time interval, I visited a Nihonbashi (Japanese meaning; Japan bridge) where Route No.1 used be old Tokaido highway started, as I had an appointment near here.

日本橋に続く道路には、三井本館、三越本店など重要文化財にも指定されている歴史的建造物が並んでいます。

Along the roadside to Nihonbashi, many historical buildings registered as important cultural properties including a Mistui mainbuilding and a Mitsukoshi main store are standing.

日本の道路の基点を示す、道路元標のレプリカが橋のたもとに立っています。本物の元標は下の道路の真ん中に埋め込まれています。

A replica of road-origin marker of Tokyo and Japan can be seen foot of the bridge, and the original is marked in the middle of the bridge.

橋の高欄の生き物、羽根があるので龍かと思ったのですが麒麟だそうです。ビールのラベルの麒麟とは少し違いますね。

A creature on balustrade pillar that I imagined it could be dragon first time, but I recognize it is qilin (Chinese legendary unicorn) . The figure can be quite different from the picture of qirin on label of popular beer in Japan.

北極に沈まぬ太陽/ Unsinkable sun over north-pole

今回のウィーンからの帰国便は、ウィーンを午後６時ごろに出発して成田に正午前に到着する約１１時間の空の旅でした。

Schedule of my return flight was departure around 18:00 from Vienna and arriving at noon on Narita next day, it means almost 11-hour flight.

離陸直後のウィーン上空、この時期のヨーロッパはまだまだ昼のように明るい空です。
Sky of Vienna just after take-off was blue like mid-day.

出発後約２時間、ようやく太陽が沈み始めました。
2-hours after take-off, sun was gradually sinking into the horizon.

でもそれからが、太陽はなかなか沈みません。飛行経路を示す地図を見ると、この飛行機、丁度昼と夜の間の境目を飛んでいくので、太陽は沈まないようです。

However, after then, sun was still floating just above the horizon like unsinkable. As I watched a map of flight plan, I noticed the plane was flying on the edge of day and night.

そして飛行機は西から東に飛んでいきますが、飛行機の左側、すなわち北極上空に太陽がずっと浮かんでいるような感じになります。

The plane was flying from west to east, and left-side of the plane; direction of north pole, the sum was floating more than two hours.

シベリア上空、現地の夜中の１２時ごろ、雲の下にちょうど太陽が沈んだような形になりました。

Above Siberia region at around midnight on local time, the sun was just under the cloud,just after sunset.

と、思う間もなく、また日が昇り始めました。日没と夜明けを同時に味わったような感じです。

But after a couple of minutes, sun began rising. I can see sun setting and sun rising simultaneously.

少しうとうととしていたら、朝陽は一気に昇ってしまいました。少し珍しい体験ができました。

And then after I just slept a few hours, sun was completely middle of sly.

ウィーンの国連city/ UNO city in Vienna

ウィーン市内には宮殿や教会など歴史的建築物も多くありますが、ドナウ川のほとりに国際原子力機関(IAEA)など多くの国連機関が入っている国連cityと呼ばれている一画もあります。

In Vienna, there are many historical buildings such as cathedral, church or palaces, but also it has interesting place called UNO city where many united nations headquarters like IAEA (The International Atomic Energy Agency) are located along Donau river.

各国の国旗が並ぶ噴水広場を囲むように、半円形のビルが重なるように並び、多くの国連機関や国際会議場が配置されいます。

Surrounding national flags and a fountain, semicircular buildings are connected and where many organizations and conference rooms for international meetings are located.

ここに国連機関を誘致したのは、東西冷戦時代に中立都市の象徴として、また国連機関を置くことにより爆撃を避けるという現実的な意味もあったようです。

The reason of inviting organization is as a symbol of neutral city as well as avoiding bombs during cold war, it should be very wise strategy for protecting the city.

構内には、各国から寄贈された、絵画や美術品が飾れれています。日本から贈られた平和の鐘や鳳凰の絵も飾られていました。

In the area, you can find many objects or pictures gifted from member countries including Japan. A Japanese bell-house and a picture of phoenixes that I found during my stay.

パスポートなどの写真つきの身分証明者を提示して、セキュリティチェックを受ければ、予約がなくても入場することができます。 有料（6ユーロ）ですがガイド付きのツアーにも参加することができますし、カフェテリアで食事や飲み物をとって休憩することもできます。

All visitors can be allowed to enter to the complex by presenting ID card with their photos and through safety body checks. You can join a visitor's tour (but you need to pay 6 Euro), and enter into a cafeteria for taking meals or drinks.

色々な国籍の国連職員や国際会議の出席者が行き交い国際的な雰囲気が味わえます。地下鉄の駅からもすぐなので、少し時間があれば訪ねてみるのもちょっと面白いかもしれません。

You can touch international atmospher by seeing many UN staff and deligations from different nationalities. The UNO city is located 0 minutes walk from a subway station, and you can spend a couple of hours if you have time.
