ウィーン大学植物園/ Botanical garden of Vienna University

ウィーン市街を見渡せる観光名所の一つベルベデーレ宮殿。　その隣に位置するウィーン大学植物園。ベルベデーレ宮殿の横からも入ることができます。

Botanical garden of Vienna University located next to a Belvedere palace from where you can oversee city of Vienna. It is possible to enter from a small gate of the wall of Belvedere.

訪れたのは、日本に帰る日曜日の昼下がり、天気も良くて、ゆったり散歩する人や、花の写真を撮る人など、それぞれに楽しんでいます。入場料は無料です。

I visited here in a afternoon of Sunday when I took a flight to Tokyo. Many people were enjoying to walk around or take a flower picture under the good weather. And admission is free.

日本で見慣れた、ノカンゾウやキキョウも宮殿をバックに撮ると少し雰囲気が変わります。

Flowers of orange daylily and balloon flower that are common flowers also in Japan, but look a little bit different with their backdrops of building of palace.

ハスの池の周りではまったりと昼下がりを過ごす人たちの姿が。

Many people were relaxing in front of a lotus pond in a Sunday afternoon.

こちらが、正門です。正門の横には温室もありますが、こちらはあまり展示用という感じではありませんでした。

This is a main gate of the garden and some green houses were located near the main gate. These greenhouse seemed for mainly studying but not for presenting.

短い滞在でしたが、西欧の植物を楽しむことができリフレッシュすることができました。

I was able to refresh my mind by watching European plants although a little bit short stay.

ポケモンＧＯで公園の景色が一変/ Completely different atmosphere in a park after Pokemon-Go started

出張から戻って、久しぶりにお昼休みに日比谷公園に行くと、今までと全然違う雰囲気。
昼休み中のサラリーマンやＯＬがスマホを見つめて一心にゲームを。

I visited Hibiya park first time after may one week duty travel, I felt completely different atmosphere in the park.
Many business women and men are playing video game in their smart phones at their lunchtime breaks.

そして夜、買い物に行く途中に世田谷公園に行くと、ぞろぞろと公園に向かう人の列。

And then on my way to shopping, I found many people were walking to a Setagaya park with their smart phones.

公園の中は、お祭りのような人ごみ。本当にゲームの中では、この公園はお祭り状態のようです。

Looks like summer festival in the park, but actually virtual festival in their smart phones.

でも公園の周りでは、駐車違反を取り締まるパトカーやこんな立て看板も。
1週間前まで、この公園でジョギングを楽しんでいた人には、少々つらい日々が続きそうです。

A police car is checking illegal parking on a road surrounding park and a warning sign for visitors who are playing Pokemon-GO with their smart phones.
For joggers who enjoyed jogging in the park until last week, it could be nightmare caused by Pokemon.

早朝のドナウ川散策/ Walking along Donau river at early morning

ウィーンに来て、少しだけドナウのほとりを散歩することができました。
I could have a short walking along Donau river at early morning during stay in Vienna.

朝早いと、白鳥も川辺でのんびりしています。
Swans are relaxing on a bank of the river.

犬が川で遊んでいます。大きい犬だなと思ったら人も泳いでいます。

I found a dog was playing and swimming this his master. And I found another dog swimming... no, no, a man was swimming!

ゆったりと流れる大河を見ていると気持ちがいいですね。
I was able to refresh myself by seeing a great river.

7月の花 萩・ハギ/ Flower of July Hagi; Bush clover

花札では7月の花ですが、実際は秋の七草にも数えられる秋を代表する花です。草カンムリに秋で、まさしく秋の草です。この漢字も日本で作られた国字だそうです。

Lespedeza bicolor/Bush clover/ハギ・ヤマハギ

Best season of a Hagi, bush clover, could be one month later or more but the bush flower is representing a flower of July in the Japanese playing card, and I would like to write something on this flower. The Chinese character of the “hagi” composed of grass and autumn and this is said Japanese original character not from Chinese.

萩の中でも、東京でもよく見かけるヤマハギは8月のお盆すぎくらいから咲き始めるでしょうか？少し色の薄いツクシハギや、花のつく枝が短いマルバハギは少し咲き始めたようです。

Lespedeza homoloba/ツクシハギ

Lespedeza cyrtobotrya/Leafy lespedeza/マルバハギ

Typical hagi, “Lespedeza” in Tokyo is a bush closer or a yamahagi (Lespedeza bicolor) and start blooming after mid August otr a Bon fetsival but similar flowers in same family, a marubahagi/leafy lespedeza (Lespedeza cyrtobotrya) or tsukushihagi (Lespedeza homoloba) has just started blooming.

ところで、お彼岸に食べる、ボタモチですが、春は牡丹の季節なので牡丹餅、秋は萩の季節なので御萩と呼ぶそうです。まだおはぎを食べるには、厳しい夏を乗り切らなければなりませんね。

By the way, botamochi or ohagi, rice cake covered with bean jam, a typical sweet Japanse pwople love to eat during a equinotical week. For the same sweet, we call it ohagi in Autumnal Equinox, from name of “hagi” bush clover but it botamochi in Vernal Equinox from “botan” Chinese tree peony. I would like to eat it soon but we will have severe summer before it.

蘆花恒春園の竹林/ Bamboo forest of Roka-kousyn-en garden

明治・大正の文豪、徳富蘆花が晩年をすごした邸宅等を中心とした蘆花恒春園、世田谷の粕谷の環八沿いにあります。

Roka Kousyunen is a public park and memorial park of Roka Tokutomi, famous writer of Meiji and Taisyo era almost 100years ago. In the center of the park, some residential buildings and gardens as well as an extended area around them where and Roka and his wife were spent their later years are maintained as used be.

近くに用事があり、少し時間があったので、散策しました。竹林や雑木林に囲まれた茅葺屋根の邸宅は当時の武蔵野の風景を良く残しているといわれます。

I had a chance to visit near the park and could spend around a hour for strolling in the garden. Appearance of old thatched roof houses surrounded by bamboo or mixed tree forest remember us old scene of Musashino area in these days.

整備された竹林を歩くと清清しい気分になります。

I could feel refreshed by walking through the well maintained bamboo forest.

そして、雑木林の中では、ウバユリがそっと咲いていました。

Cardiocrinum cordatum/Heartleaf lily/ウバユリ　

I found group of heartleaf lily are blooming in the mixed forest.

七夕飾りが竹林をバックに揺れていました。

Tanabata-kazari (star festival decoration) was blowing in the wind with backdrop of bamboo forest.

ツユクサ（露草）/ Tsuyukusa; Asiatic dayflower

今日は梅雨らしい雨がしとしと降っています。この時期、雨に濡れながら小さな花を咲かせているツユクサ。
It is drizzling today in the middle of rainy season. I find flowers of Tsuyukusa; Asiatic dayflower (Commelina communis) .

梅雨の時期に咲くのでツユクサと呼ばれるのかと思っていましたが、朝開いた花が昼には消えてしまう、朝露のように儚い花なので露草と呼ばれているのだそうです。

Tsuyu in Japanese has two meaning with different Chinese character, one is a rainy season and another is a dew or a morning dew. I was thinking a “tsuyu” in tsuyukusa means the rainy season but learn it comes meaning of dew since the flower blooms morning but will be disappeared in day time like a morning dew. And a “kusa” means grass in Japanese.

花弁の青い色が衣服に着きやすいので、万葉の頃は着き草と呼ばれ、そのツキクサがなまって露草になったとの説もあるそうですが、朝露の儚さの説のほうが素敵ですね。なお、露草からとる染料も、すぐに消えてしまうので、下絵用に使われるそうです。いずれにしても儚いイメージがあり、万葉の頃からも歌に詠われた日本原産の花です。

It is another story of the name of the plant that it was called a “tsukikusa” in ancient time since more than 1300 years ago and name could be changed as tsuyukusa, as color of flower can be easily dyed and “tsuku” has meaning of attached or dyed. But I would like meaning of a morning dew of fugacious image for this flower much more. By the way, a dye made from this flower vanished soon and it is used only for under-drawing. Such vulnerable or tentative image has been loved by Japanese since ancient Manyo era and often expressed in Japanse tanka poem.

ツユクサの仲間で、明治時代以降アメリカ大陸から日本に導入された、ムラサキツユクサとトキワツユクサがあります。こちらも1日で萎れる1日花ですが、花も大きく、日本原産の露草のような儚さはそれほど感じられないですね。今日のようなしっとりした日本の雨には日本の露草が似合うように思います。

Tradescantia fluminensis/Wandering jew/トキワツユクサ

We can find similar flowers under same group such as bluejacket (Tradescantia ohiensis) (Japanese name; murasaki tsuyukusa) and wandering Jew (Tradescantia fluminensis) (Japanese name; tokiwa tsuyukusa) they were introduced from American continental more than 100 years ago. They are also one-day flower but they have larger flower and I can not feel fugacious image from them. I can feel Japanese tsuyukusa is much harmonized with drizzling rain such as today.

夕立のあと/ After short but heavy shower with thunder

東京も連日の猛暑の上、夕方は激しい雷雨でした。夕立のあとのちょっと魅力的な雲です。

It has been severe hot days in couple days in Tokyo, and today we have　a short but heavy shower with thunder. After the shower, I can find attractive clouds over the sky.

そして少しだけ涼しくなりました。
And then, a little bit cooler now.

七月一日の氷室饅頭を東京で/ Himuro manjyu (red bean paste bun) on 1st of July, not in Kanazawa but Tokyo

金沢では、7月1日は、江戸時代から将軍家に献上する氷を取り出すこの日を、氷室開きの日と呼び、その日に氷室饅頭と呼ばれる酒饅頭を食べる習慣があります。

At Kanazawa city, 1st of July is called a day of Himuro biraki, used be an opening day of a snow/ice basement storage room in high mountain, in edo era, more than 200 years and a Lord of Kanazawa gifted summer ice to Shogun family. And same day, citizen of kanazawa city eat a special sweet called Himuro manjyu, steamed red bean paste bun with Japanese sake flavor.

金沢に住んでいた時に食べた氷室饅頭、東京では食べられないのかと調べてみると、7月1日だけ、日本橋の高島屋などで手に入るという。当日作った饅頭を、新幹線で運んできて、午後からの限定販売だとか。

I ate the himuro manjyu every year when I was in Kanazawa, and I found I can buy it only on 1st of July limited store in Tokyo, such as Takashimaya department store in Nihonbashi. It is said staff of the sweet shop bring them by a Shinkansen (bullet train) on that day.

この氷室饅頭、白、赤、緑の三色なのですが、仕事帰りに行ったので、残念ながら白は売り切れでしたが、なんとか赤と緑を買い求めることができました。

The buns have three color, white, red and green, but I could only buy red and green since I went to the shop late evening after my work.

ほんのりお酒の香りがするこしあんの饅頭、久しぶりに食べて懐かしかったです。

With faint aroma of Japanese sake, rice wine, this noble taste makes me remember my memory of good old days in Kanazawa.
