平日の富士急ハイランドで絶叫/ Screaming on rollercoasters in Fujikyu highland on a weekday

子供の学校の振替休日にあわせて、私も有給休暇がうまくとれたので、平日の富士急ハイランドで絶叫マシンを楽しんできました。

I could take an annual holiday last Wednesday for my son's substitute school holiday and my family visited an amusement park called Fujikyu highland on mount foot of Mt. Fuji. And we really enjoyed many rollercoasters for screaming!

富士急ハイランド、色々な種類のジェットコースターが絶叫マシンとして有名なのですが、休日はどれも長い列で待たないといけないというので、二の足を踏んでいたのですが、平日はずっとスムーズに乗れるので１日楽しむことができました。

Since the amusement park is very popular and we need to wait in long queue before riding attractive rollercoasters at weekend. But in weekdays, much easier to get in these amusements.

まずはFUJIYAMA、絶叫マシンの大御所といったところでしょうか？２０年前に出来たときには、高さや最高速度などは世界一を誇ったとか、約３分半の運転は絶叫の連続です。

The first attraction I took was “FUJIYAMA” which has been the most popular one more than 20 years and it was the most highest and fastest one when it was built. I was screaming on it more than 3 minutes and half during riding.

そして高飛車、最大落下角度１２１度、完全に垂直を越えています。しかも最大落下角度の直前に一瞬停止して、さらに恐怖を盛り上げてくれます。

And then “Takabishya” and the most steepest one in the world, more than vertical and 121 degrees. And it stops just before dropping on the steepest slope and makes us more terrifying.

ちょっとエヴァンゲリオンワールドでちょっと一息です。絶叫マシンの連続では体が持ちません。

Before riding on the next rollercoaster, we took a rest in a pavilion for Evangelion world.

もう一度気合を入れなおして、今度はドドンパ。スタートから１．８秒で時速１７２ｋｍに加速、まさに弾丸になった気分です。

And then I took a next one named “Dodon-pa” for feeling extreme acceleration. It accelerates velocity 172km/hr in just 1.8 second after launching. You may feel to ride on a bullet.

そして、ええじゃないか！後ろ向きでかつ宙吊りの状態でぐるんぐるんと回され、どっちを向いているか判らなくなります。４つの絶叫マシン、個人的にはこの「ええじゃないか」が一番怖くて、絶叫するのもしばし忘れました。

And the last one was called “E-eijyanaika”, I was hanged down from the machine and it goes backward and spinning. I cannot understand direction of my body and I was so scared and forgot to scream.

さすがに、４つの絶叫マシンに乗ると、体はぐったりですが、日ごろのストレス解消にはなりました。
I was very tired physically but I was able to forget stress of daily life by screaming.

道の駅 保田小学校/ Road side station “Hota elementary school”

昨年１２月にオープンしたばかりの千葉・房総の道の駅　保田小学校。廃校になった小学校を活用したユニークな道の駅です。今年の正月に、一度行きましたが、オープン直後で水仙の時期でもあり、すごい混雑していて入るのを断念したことがあり、今回再挑戦で、やっと入れました。

A road side station “Hota elementary school”, it was just opened last December after renovated from an old abolished school. When I visited there this January, I could not entered there since it was just after opened and best season of narcissus flower.

もともと２階建ての小学校の校舎の１階部分は食堂や売店に、２階は宿泊施設とゆったりと過ごせるテラスになっています。ただテラスは覆いがしてあって元の校舎の姿が見えなくなったのがちょっと残念です。

The first floor of main building of the school is redesigned for restaurants or souvenir shops and second floor is renovated for guest rooms. And outside of second floor is reconstructed for open terrace for relaxing, but it makes original outside appearance changed.　

１階の食堂の中で、私たちが選んだのは、地元の海産物などを材料に素朴な料理を提供する里山食堂。学校の教室の中で給食を食べる感覚で、穴子丼とアジフライ定食を頂きました。

My wife and I selected a restaurant named “Satoyama” for lunch and ate boiled conger with rice and deep horse mackerel.

そして、２階の校舎の外側がテラスになっていてくつろぐことができます。２階の教室は客室になっていて、宿泊ができるようになっています。

And visitors can relax outside of second floor and inside of building is designed for guestrooms.

そしてもう一つ、やはり道の駅といえば、地元の農産物の直売所です。
And another attractive facility is farmers market and we can buy fresh farmers products in there.

学校を利用したこの道の駅、保田の観光拠点として、なかなか面白い施設です、これからも時々利用させていただきます。

This facility is expected to be a tourist base by offering information for visitors.

５月の花：いずれアヤメかカキツバタ/ Flowers of May, ayame (blood-red iris) or kakitsubata (rabbit-ear iris)?

５月は、花の姿が似ていて、区別が難しいアヤメの仲間の花の話をまとめてみました。
A Japanese old words for expressing difficulty to distinguish two beauties says “ How do you identify and admire difference of flower beauty of ayame; blood-red iris(Iris sanguinea) or kakitsubata; rabbit-ear iris (Iris laevigata)?”. These flowers are now blooming in May.

花札に描かれたこの５月の花、「菖蒲（アヤメ）に八橋」と呼ばれていますが、実はこの花、今の愛知県知立市の杜若（カキツバタ）の名所、八橋の杜若（カキツバタ）を描いたものと言われています。

This is a famous picture drawn on Japanese playing cards representing May and called “ayame and yatsuhashi (eight bridges)”. However it is said the flower in the picture is not ayame but kakitsubata in Yatsuhashi, Chiryu city, Aichi prefecture.

賭け事に使われる花札なので、杜若ではなく勝負と読める菖蒲の字を当てアヤメと呼ばれるようになったようです。ただ少しややこしいのは、この菖蒲をショウブと読めばサトイモ科の全く別の植物になります。子供の日にお風呂に入れて菖蒲湯にするのがこの植物で、葉菖蒲とも呼ばれ目立たない地味な花を咲かせるようです。
この菖蒲とよく似た葉をしていて、アヤメと似た綺麗な花を咲かせるアヤメ科の植物が花菖蒲で、各地で菖蒲園と呼ばれているのは、この花菖蒲を展示しているところが多いようです。

It is said that Chinese character of ayame can be read as “shobu” and pronunciation is same meaning of “battle”, so flower in the picture called as ayame and not as kakitsubata. And more complicated thing is that plants called “shobu” has two other completely different plants called “ha-shobu; leaf shobu” and “hana-shobu; flower shobu”. And hana-shobu; Japanese iris (Iris ensata var. ensata) has also very beautiful flowers resemble to ayame(Iris sanguinea) or kakitsubata(Iris laevigata).

それでは、これらのアヤメの仲間の特徴を見てみましょう。まずはアヤメです。漢字は菖蒲と書くこともありますが文目の字を当てることもあります。これは花びらの付け根に網目（文目）模様が現れることからアヤメの名前が付けられたと言われています。乾燥した土を好み湿地では育たないことから、上の花札の絵は少なくともこのアヤメではないことがわかります。

So let's see actual pictures of these flowers belong to iris family. First one is “ayame(Iris sanguinea) ”. This plant has another Chinese character meaning of net or mesh design, it is coming from figure on base of a central petal. Since ayame is grown on dry land, the plants on the picture above cannot been “ ayame”.

次が杜若（カキツバタ）です。アヤメとは異なり、花びらの真ん中に白い線が入ります。白い花びらの白杜若（シロカキツバタ）には少し黄色の線が入っています。カキツバタはアヤメとは異なり、水辺や水の中など湿った場所を好みます。上の花札の花はやはり杜若の花の特徴をよく現しています。

Next is a kakitsubata(Iris laevigata), which has white line on center petal or faint yellow line on white flower kakitsubata. Kakitsubata grown in wet land or near wet place, therefore the plant in the picture seems kakitsubata.

そして、花菖蒲（ハナショウブ）です、ハナショウブは湿った場所、乾いた場所でも育ち、花色も豊富で見分けが難しいのですが、花弁の根元に黄色く丸い班が現れるのが特徴です。いわゆる菖蒲園で育っているのは、菖蒲田と呼ばれる湿地に育てられているのが多いようです。品種も多く、花の時期も比較的長いのですが、６月に入っても長く咲いているのは花菖蒲が多いようです。

The third one is hana-shobu; Japanese Iris (Iris ensata var. ensata), and this plans can be grown in dry or wet land and many varieties of flower color. Therefore it could be a little bit difficult to identify this flower but common figure is yellow eye-shape spot on base of petal. They has long flowering season and some flowers can be seen in June.

水辺に鮮やかな黄色い花を咲かせているのは、黄菖蒲（キショウブ）です、菖蒲という名前がついていますが欧州からの帰化植物のようです。繁殖力が旺盛で、日本では一部野生化している群落もあるようです。

Next one is yellow flag (Iris pseudacorus) and it called in Japanese as “ki-shobu; yellow shobu”. Although Japanse name includes “shobu” in it, it is imported from Europe and some plants are escaped to feral as its vital fertility.

日本のアヤメの仲間で、春に一番に咲くのが、イチハツです。４月の始めごろから咲き始め、文字通り、一番最初に咲くからこの名前になったようです。アヤメと同じく乾いたところに咲き、花の根元に鳥のとさかのような起毛があるのが特徴です。（画像をクリックすると大きくなります）（最後に書いたシャガもアヤメの仲間とすれば、シャガのほうが早くから咲き始めるかもしれません）

In Japan, most early blooming species in Iris family is roof iris (Iris tectorum) and named “ichihatsu” in Japanese. It is said “ichihatsu” is coming from “first and earliest” and we can find it from early April . The plant is growing on dry land and you can identify it from rising small hairs on petals. これまで見てきた東洋系のアヤメに対して、Irisと呼ばれる欧州系のアヤメの仲間も品種改良が行われ古くから愛されてきたようです。日本のアヤメ属に比べ大柄で花も大きく目立ちます。日本のアヤメと同じく乾いた土を好みます。欧州系の派手なIrisの中でも最もゴージャスなのがジャーマンアイリスのようです。ダッチアイリスはやや控えめですが、西洋では品種改良も進み、なかなか見分けも難しくなっています。

Until now I showed some Japanese or oriental irises but we can see many irises from western origin. In Europe, irises have been loved and many beautiful cultivars have been produced. Popular western iris in Japan seems Dutch iris and German iris. Both iris is larger and colorful than Japanese one but German iris is much gorgeous than Dutch iris, but difficult to identify for me.

そして最後が、少し控えめな花、シャガです。ほかのアヤメの仲間に比べると少し地味ですが、早春から公園の木の下などでひっそりと花を咲かせ、私たちの目を癒してくれます。

Last one I would like to introduce is fringed iris (Iris Japonica). This flower is not so eye-catching comparing other flowers in iris family, but it can feel us spring time since it is blooming under woods from early spring.

こうして見比べても、違いを見分けるのは結構難しいですが、あまり深く考えないで、美しさを素直に感じるのが一番かも知れません。
Although I selected some points for identifying these flowers, it may be better to admire beauties of these flowers without thinking complicated things.

神代植物公園・大温室リニューアルオープン/ Renewal open of large greenhouse in Jindai botanical garden

平成26年9月から改装工事をしていた神代植物公園の大温室がリニューアルしたいうので、先週の日曜日に早速行ってきました。

Since a large greenhouse in Jindai botanical gardenis in Fucyu city near Tokyo has been just re-opened after re-construction, I visited there with my wife last Sunday.

ちょうどバラ園の春のバラフェスタも開催中で、園内はすごい人でした。
There were many visitors in the garden because it had also spring rose festival in there.

温室はまだオープンしたばかりで、訪れた人の数に比べて、咲いている花もそれほど多くなくてちょっと残念でしたが、サガリバナなど珍しい花も見られてちょっとうれしかったです。

In the greenhouse I could not find so many flowers since it has just reopened, however I was satisfied with seeing rare flowers such as Barringtonia.

園内は広くて、少し離れると、武蔵野の春の景色を十分に楽しめます。菖蒲田の花菖蒲も咲き始め、畦の空木（卯の花）もちょうど綺麗でした。

In the huge space of the garden, you can enjoy nature of spring scene when you walk though woods. And I was able to enjoy to see Japanese iris （Iris ensata） in wet land with Crenate Deutzia near by.

もちろんバラもとても綺麗でした。時々訪れたい植物園がまた一つ増えました。

Of cause, Roses are also in their best time to see. I added this garden in my short list of my favorite botanical gardens.

春の伊豆半島めぐり（4）　Short tour around Izu peninsula during golden week (spring holiday season in Japan)(4).

今回の伊豆旅行のレポートの締めくくりは、道の駅伊東マリンタウンです。今や全国で千ヶ所以上登録されている道の駅ですが、ここ伊東マリンタウンの施設は全国でもトップクラスではないかと思います。

This is report on the “Ito marine town; road side station” and final one of Izu peninsula report. It is said more than 1,000 road side station are officially registered in Japan and this station could be one of the best facilitated station in Japan, I suppose.

特に、天然温泉のシーサイドスパは朝の５時から夜の１０時まで営業していて、旅の疲れを癒してくれます。スパ内のレストランでは、朝６時から朝定食も食べることもでき、海を見ながら朝風呂を浴び、朝食をゆっくり楽しむこともできます。

Particularly, a natural hot spring “sea-side spa” is open from 5 am to 10 pm and you can enjoy and relax by watching beautiful ocean view from the spa. And you can also typical Japanese breakfast from 6 am after taking bath.

道の駅の中のレストランは朝１１時（週末の一部のレストランは朝９時）から夜の９時までの営業、お土産などのショップは朝９時から夜８時ころまで営業していますので、旅のプランにあわせ、いろいろな楽しみ方ができます。

Restaurants in the station are opening from 11 am (but some restaurant are open from 9 am in weekend) to 9 pm and souvenir shops are open from 9 am to 8 pm. You can enjoy these facilities according to your travel plan.

私たちも、夕方、道の駅に到着して、買い物や食事を楽しんで車中泊、朝から海を見ながら朝風呂と朝食を楽しませていただきました。そして前の回でレポートした海中の見える遊覧船もここで楽しみました。

My family and I arrived at the station in the evening and overnight stay in my camping car after souvenir shopping and taking dinner in a restaurant. And we took breakfast by viewing a marina after taking morning bath, and then enjoyed sightseeing boat that I reported in a previous report.

２４時間駐車できトイレなども利用できる道の駅で車中泊を楽しむ人も結構増えてきているようです。ただ最近は、周りの人に迷惑をかける一部の人々の行為によって、車中泊を禁止する道の駅もでてきています。
夜中のエンジンのかけっ放しや持ち込んだゴミを捨てるなどの行為は慎んで、こういった施設を皆で気持ちよく使えるようにしたいですね。

I heard travelers using road side stations for overnight stay are now increasing since parking lots and rest rooms are available for 24 hours in there. But it is said some stations are now prohibiting overnight stay since some small portions of travelers are annoying to other users or residents by running engine long time or leaving carried garbage in the facilities and so on.
It is regrettable such behaviors has reduced other travelers joy as a result.

春の伊豆半島めぐり（3） Short tour around Izu peninsula during golden week (spring holiday season in Japan)(3).

今回の伊豆旅行では、２種類の観光船ツアーを楽しみました。まずは、西伊豆・堂ヶ島めぐりの観光船。海岸沿いの切り立った崖や岩を見ながら船は進みます。そして最後の見ものは天窓洞という名前の通り天井が抜けている洞窟内に船ごと入っての見学です。

During my Izu short trip, I enjoyed two sightseeing boat tours. The first tour was for viewing coastal cliff and rocks from the boat. And then the boat entered into a natural cave with hole of ceiling, the cave called “Tenmado cave”.

天井から差し込む光で、澄んだ水がより青く見える、イタリア・カプリの青の洞窟のような光景はなかなかのものです。少し波がありましたが、船頭さんの見事な操船技術で、不思議な景色を堪能しました。

With sun light through the hole, we can see bright blue sea, which is resemble to Grotta Azzurra; blue cave of Capri. I was able to enjoy interesting scene although wave was a little bit high.

そして、もう一つの観光船は、東伊豆・伊東の海中の見える観光船です。船の下に窓が作ってあって、船の側を泳ぐ魚たちを見ることができます。停船中の船の側には、何種類かの魚が窓の側を泳いでいます。船は出発しても暫くは湾内の岸の側をゆっくりと進んで、魚たちの姿を見ることができます。さすがに船がスピードを上げると、魚の姿はほとんど見えなくなるので、上下船時の船がとまっているかゆっくり進んでいる時が見ものです。

And the second one was for seeing under the sea from Ito port. The tourist boat has windows under the sea and tourists can watch fishes around the boat. When the boat was staying the pier or moving slowly in the harbor, we can see many fish swimming around he boat.

それぞれ１時間足らずのツアーですが、それぞれ結構楽しむことができました。
I enjoyed both tours which are less than one hour tour.

春の伊豆半島めぐり（2） Short tour around Izu peninsula during golden week (spring holiday season in Japan)(2).

沼津の魚市場の食堂で少し遅い朝食をとってから、本日の宿泊地、半島の南端に近い、松崎町の雲見オートキャンプ場へ。途中のお肉屋さんで地元の伊豆牛や、漁協の直売所で新鮮なさざえを調達し、今晩のBBQに期待が高まります。

After my family and I took late breakfast at fisherman’s market in Numazu city, we drove to south aiming to Matsuzaki town near the tip of peninsula. On the way to the a caravan park, Kumomi auto -camping park, I bought meat at local butcher's shop and turban shell at local fisherman's market for a evening BBQ.

雲見オートキャンプ場は山の中腹にあって、少し狭い道を頑張って登っていくと目の前に伊豆の海が広がります。

After I drove up narrow road to the caravan park on near the hilltop, I was able to enjoy wonderful ocean view from my camping site!

海に沈む夕日を見ながら、地元の産物を楽しみながらのBBQで時がゆっくりと流れていきます。

I really enjoyed happy time by tasting local fresh products with beautiful sunset view and I could feel that time went slowly.

次の朝、すぐそばでさえずる鶯の鳴き声で目が覚めます。よろしければ、You tubeの鶯の鳴き声をお楽しみください。
Next morning, I was able to wake up by song of Japanese bush warblers around dawn. Please enjoy bush warblers' song by You tube.

キャンプ場内を散策すれば、ちょうど色々なウツギの花が道端で咲き競っていました。東京とは少し違った種類の花も咲いていました。

And I found many beautiful flowers in the caravan park, mainly family of weigela or deutzia. They are a little bit different species from ones in Tokyo.

(アマギベニウツギ　伊豆半島の固有種のようです）
(Amagi beni utsugi; family of Weigela, endemic species of Izu peninsula)

(ニシキウツギ　白い花が咲くに従い少しずつ赤くなるようです、この株はまだ若いのでしょうか）
(Nishiki utsugi; family of Weigela, Color of petal is changing from white to red by aging, maybe it is young flower）

(マルバウツギ 少し小さな花ですが、ちょうど満開できれいです）
(Fuzzy deutzia, It is almost full blooming although each flower is small）

そして、少しだけ富士山も顔を見せてくれました。霞んでいますが見えますでしょうか？
And then we could see a Mt. Fuji on sea faintly, can you see it in the picture?

春の伊豆半島めぐり（１） Short tour around Izu peninsula during golden week (spring holiday season in Japan)(1).

今年のGWの前半は家族と伊豆半島めぐりです。まずは、沼津の魚市場。魚市場内の食堂で直食、東京を朝６時には出発したのですが、やはり少し渋滞に巻き込まれ、市場についたのが９時半ごろ、せりの行われる市場の２階の食堂で少し遅めの朝食。

I planed to enjoy Izu peninsula for spending beginning of spring holiday season with my family. First of my trip, I visited a fisherman’s market in Numazu, base of the peninsula. Although I started from Tokyo around 6 am, I arrived there after 9:30 since I was caught in traffic jam on an expressway and took a late breakfast.

海の見える食堂で食べる新鮮な魚は、旅行気分を盛り上げてくれます。お腹がいっぱいになったら、港の入り口に立てられた水門”びゅうお”まで、少し散策を楽しみました。

At a casual restaurant, my family and I really enjoyed fresh seafood dishes with nice view. After nice breakfast, I walked around the market and went a water-gate named “View-uo”.

地震の際に水門を閉じ、約６ｍの津波を防げる設計になっているそうですが、普段は高さ３０ｍの展望台として開放されています。残念ながら、富士山は見られませんでしたが、のどかな駿河湾の風景を楽しむことができました。万が一の天災のための防災施設ですが、このままずっと使われないことを願うばかりです。

The water-gate is designed for preventing tsunami of 6m high, but open for visitors as a viewing platform of 30m high in usual time. I was not able to see Mt. Fuji but to see peaceful spring view of Suruga bay. The building is emergency facility for natural disaster but I hope it will not be used forever.

そして、西伊豆を南に向かいます。しばらく伊豆レポートが続く予定です。 And then my family and I moved to west Izu peninsula.
