ポインセチア/ Poinsettia

街にこの花があふれ出すと、クリスマスが近いと実感します。赤と緑のクリスマスカラーで、クリスマスの飾り付けに使われる定番の花。

I can feel Christmas is just coming to see many flowers of Poinsettia in the city. The flower is very popular flower in this season since their Christmas colors of Red and Green.

花は小さく、その下につく苞葉が赤く染まり、下の緑の葉とのコントラストが目を引きます。最近は赤だけではなくピンクやクリーム色など色々なものが見られます。

On the top of the plants they have tiny flowers but red bracts just under the flowers are eye-catching with contrast of green leaves under them. And we can see many other colors such as pink or whitish yellow recently.

メキシコなど中米の原産で、寒さに当たると葉を落としたりするので、クリスマスシーズンの日本では、ほとんどが室内に飾られます。

It is native to Mexico or mid-America and loose their leaves under the cold condition, therefore it is common they would be displayed in the house or building in Japanese winter season.

少し前まで暮らしていたバンコクでも、同じ仏教国なのですが、クリスマスの前には店頭に置かれたりしていました。ただ、バンコクでは気温が高いため、露地においても、大丈夫なようで、多くの鉢が屋外に並んでいたりして、熱帯のクリスマスを彩っていました。

In Bangkok it is also as Buddhist country, I was there until recently, but I was able to see them often in Christmas season and put them outside as in tropical weather.

街で見かけた、ポインセチアの写真の数々です。Please see some pictures in this season.

この写真は、都内のホテルのロビーにおかれていたもので、遠目にはポインセチアかなと思って、近づいてみると、なんとバラの花でした。こちらもすごくきれいなオーナメントですね。

I found this bouquet in front of a Christmas tree in a elegant Hotel in Tokyo, and I assumed it could be poinsettia first time but found it is made of many roses. It is also amazing attractive.
