ビールとホップ/ Beer and Hop

秋風が心地よくなってきて、ビールの旬も終わりそうな時にこの話題？って感じですが・・
ただ本場ドイツでは、いよいよオクトーバーフェストが始まり、まだまだビールの季節は続いているという勝手な解釈で書いています。

We can feel cool breeze of fall and maybe it will be end of best season for drinking beer? And this topic of beer could be good for this season? However I understand that September can be opening season of Oktober-Fest in Germany; center of beer lovers. So I can write this article, I believe.

このビール（特に日本で主に飲まれているラガーでは）になくてはならないのが、ホップです。ビールに適度の苦みと酸味を加えるホップ、利尿作用や健胃効果もあるといわれています。ただ１４世紀以降ホップがビールに入れられるようになったのはその防腐効果が最も大きな理由と言われています。

The beer, particularly lager beer popular in Japan, can not be exist without hop. Better and sour taste of beer is coming from hop, and which has also diuretic effect and strengthen stomach. Besides it, hop has strong antibacterial effect for preventing from rotting of beer ,it is said to be introduced in 14th century.

このホップ、ビールに入れられるのは、未受粉の雌花（正確には毬花と呼ばれる松かさのようなもの）だけで、受粉を避けるために、雄株は全て刈り取られるそうです（このため、ホップの花言葉は不平等とか）。

Only unpollinated female flower, actually cone like pine-cone, can be used for beer production and male plant is removed for preventing pollination. Therefore meaning of this flower is expressed as inequality.

ドイツの諺で、「ビールを飲んで女性を口説くな」というのがあるそうです。恋を知らないまま摘み取られた乙女のホップが、女性を口説く男に利尿作用で逆襲し、落ち着いて口説かせないようにするからとか。やはり女性を口説くときは、日本酒かワインあたりを飲みながらのほうが良さそうです。

I heard a proverb in Germany “Do not seduce a lady with drinking beer”, it means maiden hops harvested before knowing love can make counter-attack to man who are talking love with lady by prompting his micturition. So if you want to talk with lady for lovely topics, it could be better drinking with wine or Japanese sake.
