ジャカランダ/Jacaranda

春または雨季の始まりに薄紫色の花を咲かせるジャカランダ。中南米の熱帯から亜熱帯の原産の花で、残念ながら日本ではあまり見られないようです。

Jacaranda, we can find flowers at spring time or beginning of rainy season, native to tropical or sub-tropical region in Central-South America, however seldom seen in Japan.

１０年ほど前にメキシコシティで満開の並木を見ました。残念ながら、その時は写真を撮り損ねたので、いつかまた見たいなあといつも思っていました。

I have a experience to admire beautiful full blossom in spring time in Mexico city more than ten years ago. But, unfortunately, I was not able to take pictures of this beautiful scene that time and I have been wondering to see it once again.

前に住んでいたバンコクでも少しは見ることができましたが、バンコクの街路では同じ紫のオオバナサルスベリや黄色のゴールデンシャワーのほうが目立って、素敵なジャカランダを見ることはついにできませんでした。
I was able to see this tree in Bangkok where I lived recently, but Jacaranda was not so attractive than violet flower of Giant crape-myrtle or yellow flower of Golden shower on the streets in Bangkok.

このたび、２５年前に大阪花博が開かれた「咲くやこのはな館」で、このジャカランダが咲いていると聞いて、訪ねて見ました。主温室の横に結構立派な木（多分、花博の時に植えられたのでしょう）に数房の花が咲いていました。

I visited a giant greenhouse named “Sakuya-Konohana-kan” which was build in 1990 as a main pavilion of International Osaka flower exposition since I heard Jacaranda was blooming in this facility. Besides the greenhouse, several clusters of flowers were blooming on a quite big Jacaranda which could be planted at the time of the flower exposition.

雨季と乾季のある地方では、乾季に落葉した枝から雨季の初めに花が一斉に咲くそうで、花だけの綺麗な姿が見られるのですが、ここのジャカランダは葉と花が一緒に咲いていました。あの見事なジャカランダの花の並木を見るには中南米に行かないとだめなようですね。

A tree glowing in rain and dry seasons falls leaves during dry season and blooms at the beginning of rain season, therefore flower looks more beautiful since only flowers can be seen on their blanches. The tree I found was blooming with their leaves on the blanches. I wonder I should go to Mexico city or other city in Central-South America for finding wonderful full blossom of Jacaranda on the streets.

このジャカランダの花、少し桐の花に似ていることから、和名ではキリモドキと呼ばれることもあるようです。薄紫の桐の花も素敵ですね。

The flower of Jacaranda resembles to a flower of a Empress tree (Kiri in Japanese), it sometimes called Kiri-modoki (quasi-Kiri) in Japanese. I also like color of flower of a Empress tree.
