ハナミズキ/ Flowering dogwood

連休前のハナミズキの花が綺麗だったので、記事にしようと思っているうちに連休も終わりに近づいてハナミズキもほとんど散ってしまい、慌ててアップしています。

I was thinking to write an article on a flowering dogwood since it looked very beautiful before spring holiday season “Golden week” but it is near end of holiday season and end of flowering season of dogwood. So I need to upload the article urgently.

このハナミズキ東京ではサクラの季節を追うように咲き始め、ちょうど連休の爽やかな季節によく似合う花です。

The best flowering season comes just after cherry blossom and it is one of the best whether in spring time in Tokyo.

約１００年前に日本からワシントンDCに桜を贈った返礼として贈られて日本中に広まったこともよく知られています。学名の（Cornus florida）のフロリダの名が指すように、北米東海岸の原産で街路樹等によく使われてアメリカを代表する花木のようです。桜とハナミズキ、両国を代表する花を楽しんだらまさしく春満開です。

This flower is well known of coming from USA almost a century ago as a return gift to Japanese cherry blossom to Washington D.C and has been spread to all over Japan. It's scientific name (Cornus florida) shows that it native in eastern American continental and popular in US. It is a best season in Tokyo to enjoy flowering dogwood and cherry blossom in middle of spring.

ハナミズキ、綺麗な花を咲かせますが、病気にはあまり強くなく、枯死した時には、近縁で病気に強い日本のヤマボウシとの交配種等に植え替えることもあるようです。

The flowering dogwood has very beautiful red and white flower, however could be weak some diseases and infected trees should be transplanted by more strong trees by cross-breeding with Japanese dogwood which is under near family.
