モクレンの花/ Flower of Magnolia

早咲きの桜に引き続き、モクレンの花が満開になってきました。先週末に白い花が綺麗に咲き始めたと思っていたら、もう散り始めたものも。白い花に引き続き赤紫の花もつぼみが膨らんできました。大きな花が木全体を包み込んで、遠目にも本当に目立って綺麗です。

Flower of magnolia has become full blossom after early blooming varieties of cherry. I found some buds of white flower had grown to open last weekend and I see some flowers start to fall down today. After white flowers, now red-violet flowers start blooming, they are very attractive since beautiful large flowers covering whole trees.

白いモクレンはハクモクレンといって、紫のものが正式にはモクレンと呼ばれ、２つのモクレンは少し種類が違いのだとか。また、紫のものを区別のためにシモクレンと言うこともあるのだとか。

White flower magnolia (Magnolia denudata) is also called as Yulan magnolia and should be distinguished by calling as “Hakumokuren” from violet one (Magnolia liliiflora) and “Mokuren” in Japanese. Also violet one sometimes called as “Shimokuren”.

タイにもプルメリアのように一輪一輪が大きく目立つ花もありましたが、どちらかというと小さな花が集まって大きく見える花が多くて、こんな一輪がこんなに大きな花はなかったかと思います。

In Thailand I used to live until recently, I found many beautiful flowers but most flowers looks beautiful by consisting of small flowers, it could be a few flowers which has large independent flowers like Plumeria.

木の上に咲く花としては、日本でも最大級の花なのかと思い調べてみると、同じモクレンの仲間でタイサンボク（泰山木）という花があって、こちらは初夏の花のようです。その季節になれば、どこかで見てみたいと思います。

I wondered magnolia could be one of the largest flower on the tree inn Japan but I found a southern magnolia (or bull bay), (Magnolia grandiflora) , which is also same Magnolia genus, is one of the largest flower in Japan, and it flowers in early summer. I wish to see a flower of southern magnolia somewhere in that season.

桜も花の命が短いですが、このモクレンも短命の花、春を待ちながら、少し眺める余裕が欲しいですね。

The season of magnolia seems be very short, could be shorter than cherry, therefore I would admire the beauty of these flowers but with a little bit relaxed mind by waiting warm spring time.
