紫の目立つバンコク/ Attractive violet color in Bangkok

久しぶりにバンコクを訪ねたら、街のあちこちで紫色が目につきました。寺院には紫の幕が張られ、屋台では紫のポロシャツやTシャツが売られています。

I recently visited Bangkok first time after a couple of month since I left there, and I noticed violet color can be seen in many places. Violet decoration banner can be seen in front of temples and many vendors are selling violet color T shirts or Polo-Shirts on the street.

４月２日に６０歳の誕生日を迎えるシリントン王女のお祝いために、徐々に紫が目立つようになってきているそうです。タイの人々は自分の誕生日の色を大事にする習慣があり、紫はシリントン王女の誕生日の土曜日の色を表わしています。

I was informed that 2nd of April of this year will be the 60th birthday of Her Royal Highness Maha Chakri Sirindhorn who is loved by Thai people very much and now violet become dominant color in Thailand. Thai people respect their birthday's color and violet is symbol color of Saturday when Her Royal Highness was born.

中国の影響も受けるタイは１２年ごとの誕生日を盛大に祝う習慣があるそうで、日本の還暦に当たる６０歳の誕生日はやはり盛大なお祝いが行われるようです。特に国民からの人気のあるシリントン王女の誕生日には多くの国民が紫のシャツを着てお祝いをするのでしょう。

Thai people celebrate their birthday every twelve years specially which could be influenced by Chinese calendar. And 60th birthday is very important similar to Japanese “Kan-reki”; Chinese calendar cycle.

公園では、オオバナサルスベリやジャカランタが紫色の花を咲かせ、お祝いムードに花を添えていました。

In a park, violet flower such as a Giant crape myrtle or a Jacaranda are blooming like waiting for celebrating time on her highness's 60th birthday, too.

タイの知人から貰ったプレゼントも紫色のTシャツに６０歳と今年の干支（でも羊じゃなくてヤギですが）が描かれてました。

A friend of mine presented me a violet T-shirt with number of 60 and animal of this year, but it is not a sheep (like Japan) but a goat.
