気軽なリゾートアイランド・サメット島/ Casual resort island, Samed

日本への本帰国のための準備や引っ越しも順調に進んだので、予備日を利用してタイ東部のサメット島で少しだけのんびりしてきました。バンコクから車で3時間～3時間半でサメット島の玄関口バンペーへ、そこから島までは、スピードボートで10～15分、渡し船でも30分くらいで渡ることができます。バンコクを早朝に出発すればランチの前にビーチでのんびり過ごすことも。帰りもランチを食べてゆっくり島を出ても夕方にはバンコクに着けます。

As my preparation for returning to Japan has been operated smoothly, I was able to enjoy very short holiday in Samed Island using reserved days. 3-3 and half hour drive from Bangkok, we can arrive at Ban-Pe Pier from where we can go the Island in 10-15 minutes by a speed boat or in 30 min. by a ferry. So as I started from Bangkok early morning and I was able to relax on a beach before lunch time. And then you can arrive at Bangkok evening time by leaving the Island high noon after lunch.

バンコクから近いビーチではパタヤやホアヒンが有名ですが、水はずっとサメットのほうが綺麗でした。乾期で波も穏やかだったので、砂浜のビーチでまったりしたり、岩場に行ってシュノーケリングで魚を見たり楽しんできました。

Pattaya or Hua-hin are famous beach located near Bangkok, but clearness of water in Samed is much much better than these beaches. Thanks to mild wave as in dry season, I was able to relaxing in sand beach or enjoy snorkeling with tropical fishes in rocky area.

ディナーはシーフードとビールでまったりと。1泊2日の短い旅でしたが、タイの最後に少しだけリラックスすることができました。バンコクで時間に少し余裕ができたら、軽くリゾート気分を味わうには良い島だと思います。さあいよいよ明日は本帰国です。

I enjoyed seafood dishes with local beer at dinner time. Although it was very short trip only one night but as casual and last resort trip in Thailand during my three year stay here. I am coming back to Japan tomorrow!

世界の山ちゃんin Bangkok/ Sekaino-Yamachan in Bangkok

バンコクに戻った初日の夕ご飯は、タイ料理ではなく、最近バンコクに1号店を開店した名古屋の手羽先の有名店「世界の山ちゃん」へ。12月の初めに開店していたのですが、私が日本に戻っていたので、家内と子供だけでは入りにくく、私のバンコク再来を待っていたという家族の希望で早速行ってきました。

For the first evening diner in Bangkok after I come back here, “Sekaino-Yamachan” which not Thai restaurant but famous fried chicken wing restaurant in Nagoya was selected by my families’ recommendation. The first branch of this restaurant in Bangkok has been opened in beginning of December but my family had a little bit difficult to enter without me since it is Japanese bar restaurant

スクンビットの住宅街の中に、かなり目立つオブジェと看板で場所はすぐにわかります。夕方6時半過ぎに行くとすでに満席、店の外で暫く待ってからやっと入ることができました。

You can find the place of the restaurant by eye-catching object and sign-board in relatively quiet residential area in Sukhumvit. As we arrived around 18:30, but we had to wait our tables to be ready since full occupied for a while outside of the restaurant.

メニューは、日本のお店とほとんど一緒のようで、名物の幻の手羽先が5本で120バーツ、最近の円安の1バーツ3.6円換算で、ほぼ日本のお店と同じ値段430円（少し前までの1バーツ3.2円ぐらいのレートだと、こちらのほうが少し安い計算）になります。タイの美味しい鶏肉のスパイシーな手羽先は、生ビールによくあいます。間もなく日本に帰りますが、このバンコクの山ちゃんもなかなかのものだと思いました。

I found a menu could almost same one in Japan, famous menu “chicken wing in legend” is THB 120 for 5 pieces, which is almost same to JPY 430 by calculating recent Yen depression (1THB = 3.6 JPY) but if you can apply previous rate before Yen depression such as (1TH = 3.2JPY), it could be a little bit cheaper in Bangkok branch. Juicy and tasty Thai chicken with spicy taste is very well served with draft beer. I will come back Japan soon but I will miss this Sekaino-Yamachan in Bangkok!

日・タイ タクシー比較考察（その２）/ Considering difference Taxi driver between Thai and Japan Vol.2

前回の記事で、タイのタクシーの乗車拒否や遠回りをする運転手のことを書きましたが、それには色々と理由があることが分かってきました。
バンコクの運転手は、タクシー会社から車をリースして営業していて、しかも１台の車を複数の運転手でシェアしているので、決められた時間に次の運転手に引き渡さないと高いペナルティを払わないといけないようです。このため、交代時間直前に遠い場所や渋滞した場所に行くと、時間内に車を引き渡せなくなるので、乗車拒否をすることが多くなるようです。また、燃料もぎりぎりで走っている運転手も多く、遠い距離を嫌がるようです。私も乗ったタクシーも何度か、給油のため途中でガソリンスタンドに止まったり、一度はガス欠でやむなくタクシーを降りたこともあります。

As I wrote refusal or detour of taxi driver in Bangkok, I found some reason why they do so gradually. Many taxi driver in Bangkok operate their job by share leasing car from taxi company, so they need to return their car in fixed time to next driver. If they had failed to return on fixed time, they would pay relatively high penalty. Therefore, taxi drivers who would be close to hand-over time tend to refuse service for long distance or in heavy traffic area. Also they always run without full fuels so they don't want to go long distance.
I had some experiences taxi driver went to gas station during driving, and one-time I had to change a taxi by no-fuel incident of my taxi.

渋滞に巻き込まれると、遠回りをしてでも空いている道を探す運転手も多いようです。ただ、これは遠回りをして稼ごうというより、少しでも早く目的地まで行って、次のお客を捕まえたいという気持ちからのようです。渋滞の中で、何もしないのが悪いと思っているような節があり、またじっとしているのが苦手なようです。ただ結果は裏目にでることが多いような気がしますが。また、どうも地図を読むのが苦手な運転手が多いようですが、ナビのついているタクシーはまだほとんどありません。
今は、日本のタクシーがほとんどカーナビを積んでいるとは大きな違いです。

In traffic jam, many taxi driver try to find relatively light traffic route even it could be longer way. I seems they want to go destination in shorter time for catching next customer rather than to earn more money by current customer. And I feel they don't want stay without any effort in traffic jam and they looks feel bad for customer such no effort, but result could not be always good...
By the way, I feel many driver in Thai seems not good at understanding maps but very few taxis facilitated with car navigation system.

日本のタクシーと大きく異なるのは、仏教徒の多い国柄を反映して、車内にジャスミンの花輪や小さな仏像や仏画を飾っている、運転手が多いことです。車はガタガタでも、綺麗な花輪を多く飾っている運転手も多くいます。ただ、敬虔そうに見える運転手の運転が丁寧かというと・・・かえって逆なようも気もします。

Many taxi drivers decorate inside car with jasmine wreath, small Buddha statue or Buddha picture reflecting religious believe although outside of car is not so neat. And personally, I feel taxi driver who decorate many religious ornament in his car cannotalways drive car gently or safely.

日・タイ タクシー比較考察（その１）/ Considering difference Taxi driver between Thai and Japan Vol.1

バンコク都内では、高架鉄道や地下鉄が少しずつ整備され便利になってきたとはいえ、その走っている区間が限定され、またバスはその路線が複雑な上、ほとんどのバスはタイ語の標記しかないので、バンコクに滞在した約３年でタクシーを随分と利用しました。

Public transportation system in Bangkok has been improved recently by development of sky train and subway system, but area of these train covered is still limited and bus road is very complecated and explanation is almost only by Thai, so I have been using taxi many times during almost three year stay in Bangkok.

バンコクのタクシーの料金は初乗りが２ｋｍまで３５バーツ（約１００円）で、以後４００ｍ毎に２バーツ(約６円）の加算となっていて、よっぽど渋滞が酷くなければ１０ｋｍくらい乗っても１００バーツ以内で乗ることができます(渋滞時は１分後とに２バーツ加算）。

Basic fare of taxi in Bangkok is THB 35 for 2km and additional fare is THB 2 for each 400m, there fore you can use it under THB 100 for 10km drive unless heavy traffic (THB 2 for 1 minute during trafic jam).

これは、東京のタクシー（初乗り２ｋｍ７３０円、以後２８０ｍ毎に９０円加算、渋滞時１分４５秒で９０円加算）に比べて、初乗りで約７倍、距離加算で２０倍以上の差があり、長い距離を数人で利用すると本当にお得感があります。少し前に東京とバンコクのカオマンガイ（タイのチキンライス）の値段が６－７倍という記事を書いたことがありますが、ちょうど同じような差になっています。

On the other hand, basic fare for 2km of taxi in Tokyo is JPY 730 and additional fare is JPY 90 for each 280m and JPY for 1minutes 45 second during traffic jam. It means basic fare is 7 times and additional cost is more than 20 times than taxi in Bangkok. It is also similar difference for chiken rice in Bangkok and Tokyo that I wrote recently.

料金は安いタクシーですが、残念ながら、乗車拒否を頻繁にする、タクシーメーターを倒さずに、かなり高めの料金を要求してくる、客が不慣れだと見ると遠回りをするといった悪い評判もよく聞きますし、私も何度も経験してきました。特に乗車拒否には良く泣かされました。

Although fare in Bangkok is cheaper but reputation of taxi driver is not so good by refusal of service, request high fare without using taxi meter or detour for uncommon customers. I have also experienced such bad luck particularly refusal for service.

バンコクでは、タクシーを捕まえても、直ぐには乗りまずに、ドアを開けて、行き先を告げ、運転手が同意してから乗り込むのが一般的な乗り方です。またその際に、運転手から、２００バーツだとか３００バーツといった法外に高い料金でなければ行かないと言われることがあるので、そういう時は値段交渉をして納得してから乗らないと、降りる時にトラブルになります。
ごくたまに、乗り込んでもメーターを倒さずに走り出す運転手がいます。そういう時は直ぐにメーターを倒すように要求し、それでも応じなければ、直ぐに降りたほうが賢明です。

In Bangkok it is common customer needs to negotiate with taxi driver before getting in the taxi by saying destination and sometimes fare for destination. If you did not discuss with taxi driver before start to run it become sometimes trouble when you get out of the taxi.
And sometimes but not so much, taxi driver would not start taxi meter without any comments, in such case you should request to start taxi meter and it could be better you get off the taxi in case taxi driver would not accept your request.

一方、日本では、ほとんど乗車拒否されることもなく、ましてやメーターを倒さずに走り出すタクシーなど聞いたことがありません。最近は、ほとんどのタクシーにはナビがついているので、乗ってから、行き先を告げれば、ほぼ最短距離で行ってもらえる安心感があります。少々値段が高くても、安心感という面では、ロンドンタクシーと並んで世界でもトップクラスではないかと思います。

In Tokyo, it is very few taxi driver refuse to go to requested area or taxi driver request higher fare without using taxi meter. Also almost all taxi equipped with car navigation system, so you can tell your destination after getting in a taxi so taxi driver can reach best way to destination without any worry. So taxi in Tokyo is top class service in the world although fare is relatively high.

ミュンヘンクリスマス市in Sapporo/ Munich Christmas Market in Sapporo

一つ前の記事から少し時間が経ってしまいましたが、昼間に札幌市内を散策し夕暮れ時からは、大通り公園のミュンヘンクリスマス市を訪ねた時のことを少しだけ書いておきます。１１月２８日からクリスマスイブまで開かれているこの市は、この時期ドイツ各地で行われているのを、札幌と縁が深く姉妹都市のミュンヘンの名を冠して札幌でも毎年行われすでに１３回目とか。

As I wrote about afternoon walking to see colored tree in the last article and then I visited a Munich Christmas Market in Sapporo in evening time. The 13th market is now held from 28 Nov. to Christmas eve, since Munich and Sapporo is sister city reflecting close relationship of both city.

開幕直後の１１月下旬に行ったので、まだ雪はなかったのですが、それでも夕闇が迫る頃には、足元からしんしんと冷えてきて、名物のホットビールかホットワインを飲みたいところですが、帰りに車を運転しなければならないので、アルコールはぐっと我慢して、ローストアーモンドとクリスマスオーナメントだけを買って、体が冷えないうちに、隣の区画で行われているイルミネーションを見ながら家路につきました。

When I visited end of November, there was no snow on the ground but still cold after sunset. I would like to drink hot wine or hot beer but I could not since I had to drive after the visiting, so I just tasted roasted almond and I just bought Christmas beautiful ornament. And I got back to my accommodation before I was totally cooled down by watching illumination of next block.

札幌は今、タイ人の訪れたい町ナンバーワンだそうですが、この市とホワイトクリスマスを組み合わせてPRすれば札幌を訪れるタイ人はもっと増えるのではないかと思います。

ちょうど４時３０分にイルミネーションが点灯しました。/Illumination was lighted on 16:30.

As I understand Sapporo is most favorite city for Thai people, it must be more people to come to Sapporo if effective PR of this event could be done for Thai people with possible white Christmas.
