BIG+BIHのバーゲンに行ってきました/ I visited BIG+BIH fair in Bangkok

バンコクで年に２回開かれるギフトと家庭用品の見本市、BIG+BIH（Bangkok International Gift Fair and Bangkok International Houseware Fair）に行ってきました。バンコク3大バーゲンの一つとも呼ばれるこの見本市、いつもバンコク郊外のBITEC（Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre）で行われるのですが、BITECとBTS（高架鉄道）のバンナー駅との連絡通路が出来て行きやすくなったと知り、BTSを使って１０月２３日（チュラロンコン王記念日の祭日）に行ってみました。（あと２つはジムトンプソンのバーゲンと、メラミン食器のバーゲンと言われています）

I visited one of the biggest trade fair in Bangkok, BIG+BIH（Bangkok International Gift Fair and Bangkok International Houseware Fair） at BITEC（Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre）, Bangna Bangkok on 23 October 2014, which was King Chulalongkorn Day and national holiday in Thailand. Since a BITEC becomes easy to visit recently as connected to Bangna station of BTS sky-train by moving walkways, I visited by BTS
This bargain fair seems one of the three biggest bargain in Thailand with Jim Thompson and Melamine table ware.

この見本市、お土産用のお洒落な小物や文房具から食器や家具など家庭用品のあらゆる物がそろっていて６００社以上の会社が出展し、バイヤー１万人、一般客が９万人以上のあわせて１０万人以上のお客さんが来るといわれています。見本市は１０月２０，２１日がバイヤー向け、１０月２２日、２３日が一般客向けになっています。物によっては半額や７割引のものや、ちょっと普段は目にしない変わった商品も並んでいて、広い会場を足が棒になるまで歩き回って、荷物も増えて結局帰りはタクシーで・・・

珍しいガラスのペン/ I found a glass pen.

You can find every kind of cutting edge house-wares or gifts from small craft, stationary to tableware and furniture and it is said 600 companies of domestic and overseas exhibitors, as well as over 13,000 buyers and professionals from the industry on trade days and over 91,000 visitors on public days. I visited it on last day, 23 Oct 2014. I could find some goods were sold as 50-70% discount. Also I could find very unique and cool items That I can not find in ordinary department stores. I walked round and round until my legs off and I took a taxi for returning to my home with many goods I bought.

今年の秋の見本市は終わってしまいましたが、来年の春の見本市は４月２１日から２６日だそうです。日本は丁度ゴールデンウィークが始まる時期（タイはタイ正月のソンクランが終わって落ち着き始める頃）ですので、ゴールデンウィークを利用してタイ旅行を考えている人には、この見本市でお土産を探すのもいいかもしれませんね。

Although the fair of this year has finished, it will be held on 21-26 April 2015, it would be just after Thai's new year festival “Songkran” or Japanese “Golden week; spring vacation weeks”. So, it could be good idea to visit this fair for looking for good gift or souvenir if you have a plan to come to Thailand in this season.

まずは、BTSバンナー駅の１番出口を降ります。/You can go down from EXIT 1 from Bangna station

スクンビット通りの歩道を都心方向に１００ｍほど歩くと、入り口が見えてきます。後ろに見えるエスカレーターを上ります。/ You can see a small entrance after about 100 m sideway of Shukumvit Rd. to dirction of downtown.　And you can use escalator in side to aisles.

延々と通路が続きますが動く歩道があります。It is long long way but you can use moving walkway.

新しい展示会場の建設も進んでいるようです。ここができればもっと近くなりそうです。日本の重機も活躍中。
It seems new exhibition hall is under construction, it may be more convenient and nearer.

突然のスコール/ Sudden heavy shower with wind “squall” in Bangkok

雨季も終わりに近づき雨も少なくなってきました。 それでも、さっきまで良い天気だと思っていても、まさしく一天にわかに掻き曇り、突然のスコールということも。
こんなスコールになったら、無理に外に出るのは諦めて、ゆっくり雨宿りをしたほうが賢明です。強い雨と風でどうせ傘は役に立たないし、２０－３０分もすれば上がることが多いですから。

Bangkok is now approaching end of rainy season and it becomes a few rainy day recently. However, still occasionally, we will have sudden heavy shower with strong wind just after fine weather. If you will have such a squall it would be better to stay inside of building, since no umbrella is useful for such strong rain and wind and it would not continue more than 30 minutes.

ビデオモニター付きタクシー/ A taxi with personal video monitor

タクシーに乗り込んだら、運転手さんが微笑みながら何か話しかけてきました。タイ語は良く判らなかったのですが、前の座席を見てビックリ。飛行機のような客用のビデオモニターがついていて何か番組が始まったのです。多分。運転手さんは「ビデオ楽しんでください」とでも言ったのでしょう。

When I got in a taxi recently in Bangkok and was surprised to find a personal video monitor was on backside of a front seat. Then a taxi driver told me something. Although I could not understand well, he might say like “please enjoy video” or something.

番組の内容は、映画の宣伝やいたずらビックリ番組のような他愛のないものだったですが、３０分ほどの乗車中、言葉が判らなくても結構楽しむことができました。とかく態度が良くないとか乗車拒否が多いとかあまり評判の良くないバンコクのタクシーですが、このようにサービス向上に努めている運転者さんもいると知って少し嬉しくなりました。

Contents of programme was easy-to-see like advertisement of movies or kind of a Candid Camera, but I was able to quite enjoy about thirty minutes although I cannot understand Thai language. It is said attitude of taxi drivers in Bangkok is not so good and sometimes they would refuse to go requested place, but I was delighted to know some taxi drivers (but not so much) try to improve their service.

常夏のバンコクのスケート場/ Skating rink in Bangkok where everlasting summer

バンコクにもスケート場があると聞いて、試しに行ってみました。BTS（高架鉄道）のエカマイ駅から直結するビルの中にあり、日曜日の昼下がり、家族連れや若い人たちでそれなりに賑わっていました。ただ以前、人工降雪装置とそりのコースで人気のある遊園地のことを紹介したことがありましたが、スケートには一定の技術が必要なこともあったか、このスケート場は遊園地ほどには大人気というほどではありませんでした。

I visited a skating rink here in tropical Bangkok, and I found many young or family groups were enjoyed there in a Sunday afternoon since the rink was in a building directly connected to Ekamai station of BTS sky-train. However, as I wrote an article on a very popular amusement park with artificial snow ground, comparing the popularity of amusement park this rink seemed less popular partly because skating needs sizable practice for enjoying.

週末は大人１時間２００バーツ（平日は１８０バーツ）で靴とヘルメットは無料で貸してもらえます。室温は２０度くらいで、時々氷面を均す機械も入って、氷のコンディションもそこそこの感じでした。
ただ、私も３０年以上ぶりに挑戦して見ましたが、思ったようには滑れず、冷や汗も含め、結構汗だくになり１時間滑れば十分でした。明日、体が痛くならなければ良いのですが。

Fare for adult per one-hour in weekend is THB200 (weekdays is THB 180) including rental shoes and helmet. Room temperature was around 20 degree Celsius and condition of ice was not so bad since a machine for maintenance was working periodically.
However for myself, I was soaked with cold sweats since it was a first time more than thirty years for skating and I could not skate well, so I stopped for skating after I enjoyed only one hour. I hope I would have no muscle pain tomorrow.

パートンコー タイの揚げパン/ Pha Tong Ko, Deep-fried dough stick

少し塩味のついた小麦粉の生地を揚げた単純な揚げパン、店によって少しねじったりしています。中華街などでは、屋台の揚げパンを朝食にするそうですが、残念ながら我が家の周りにはパートンコーの屋台がないので、朝食に食べたことはなく、ショッピングモールで、女子高生などがおやつ代わりに買っているお店で買ってきました。

Pha Tong Ko, Thai's deep-fried dough stick with slightly salty taste, and twisted in some shops. It is said it is popular for breakfast buying from street vendor particularly near a China town. However, unfortunately I cannot find a street vendor near my house, I bought it a shop in shopping mall where many high school students buys as a snack.

このパートンコー、サンカヤーバイツゥーイというパンダンリーフで緑に色付けしたココナッツのカスタードクリームか練乳をかけて食べるのが一般的のようです。
パートンコーは１本１0バーツくらい、サンカヤーバイツゥーイが１パック２０バーツくらいです。

It is recommended that to eat it by dipping in a “Sang kaya bai toey”, custard cream made by coconut milk colored by pandan leaves or in a condensed milk.
Usually, price for Pha Tong Ko is THB10 and “Sang kaya bai toey” is THB 20 for each pack.

カノム・クロック・カイノックグラ（うずらの目玉焼き）/ Kanom Krok Khai Nok Krata/ Sunny side up of quail's egg

以前記事にしたことがあるカノム・クロックとカノム・クロック・カイノックグラ。たこ焼き器のようなくぼみのある鉄板（クロック）で、ウズラの卵の目玉焼きを作るカノム・クロック・カイノックグラの写真は前の記事では紹介できなかったのですが、今回お店で撮ってきましたので、ご覧ください。

A sunny side up of quail's egg fried in a griddle with dent, a snack called Kanom Krok Khai Nok Krata since Khai means egg Nok Krata means quail. Last time I could not show any pictures, but please find some of same.

ピンクの可愛いベリー; カリッサ・カランダス/ Pretty pink berry; Carissa carandas

家の近くの道の垣根に可愛いピンクのベリーがなっているのを見つけて写真に撮って見たものの、名前もわからず、食べられるとも思っていませんでした。
それからしばらくして路上で他の果物と売っているのを見かけたので、聞いてみると、manao mairu ho という名前でビタミンを豊富に含み、風邪をひいた時の喉の痛みなどに良いとのことです。ただ英語の名前などは判らないままでした。

I happened to find pretty berry on a hedge near my house and took pictures but I could not find name and image it was edible fruits.
And then I found this berry was sold on the street and found it was called manao mairu ho and contained rich vitamin and good for sore throat, but I was not able to find English common name.

家に帰って少し食べてみたものの、かなり酸っぱい上に、少しゴムのような粘り気のある乳液があって、それほど多く食べられるのものではない感じでした。

I bought some and tried to eat at home. I found it was very sour and sticky and milky liquid inside. I felt it was difficult to eat much.

写真を手がかりにどんな植物か調べて見ると、どうもCarissa carandasという学名で、Crimson fruit、Carunda berry あるいはベンガル語でKoromcha と呼もばれているようです。もう少し完熟するとゴムのような乳液もなくなり、またジャムにして食べると美味しいとも書かれていました。ただ次に売っているのを見ても買うかどうかは、ちょっと微妙な感じです。色はすごく綺麗なんですが。

I found it's scientific name is Carissa carandas and called a crimson fruit、carunda berry or Koromcha in Bengali. And I found its milky liquid would be disappeared after ripened. And it could be tasty of it's jam. But it could be difficult to say that I will buy it again if I find it st street vendor next time?

フォイトーン・鶏卵素麺/ Foi Thong (Fios de ovos) Keiran-Somen

鶏卵を沸騰させたシロップ（糖蜜）の中をくぐらせて、細い糸状にしたもので長崎の鶏卵素麺とそっくり。もともとポルトガルのお菓子をタイのアユタヤ朝に伝えたのが、日本のキリシタン大名の末裔のマリア・ギオマールという女性（そのいきさつは別の記事で書きましたので、もしよければそちらを見てください）。だから、そっくりな訳です。

It is made of egg york by dropping and forming threads in simmering sugar syrup and very similar to Japanese, particularly Nagasaki region, popular Keiran-so-men. It is originally Portuguese sweets and was introduced to Thai by a lady named Maria Guyomar who was Japanese-Portuguese-Bengali ancestry during Ayutaha dynasty, and please find another article by clicking here　in details.ポルトガル語では卵の糸、タイ語では黄金の糸、そして日本では鶏卵素麺と少しずつ表現が変わっているところも面白いです。タイのフォイトーンは黄金色を出すため、アヒルの卵を使い、またシロップにローズウォーターやジャスミンエッセンスを入れて花の香りをつけるようです。

Fios de ovos, menaing of egg york thread in Portuguese, and Keiran-so-men, meaning of hen's eggs' thin-noodle, and Foi Thong, meaning of golden thread, it is interesting meanings are a little bit different for same sweets. And Thai's Foi Thong is made from duck's egg for making clear yellow color and flavored by through sugar syrup aromatized with rose water or jasmine essence.

同じ材料を使って花の形にしたのがトーン・イップ、卵に小麦粉と米粉を混ぜて丸い卵（あるいは涙の形）にしてシロップをくぐらせたのがトーン・ヨードと呼ばれ、名前に皆、黄金（トーン）がついていて結婚式などのお目出度い時にもよく使われるとか。

Other similar sweet named Thong Yip, made of same material but shape is like flower and Thong Yod which is made with egg york, wheat and rice flour and shape of round tear drop all has same word “Thong” (gold). They are very luck sweets and preferred to use in happy ceremony such as wedding.

味はやはりかなり甘いです。それにやはり新鮮なのを食べるのが良いみたいです。

パパイヤは野菜？果物？/ Fruit or Vegetable? Papaya

パパイヤは、日本では代表的なトロピカルフルーツの一つとして、また輸入品が多いこともあってか高級なイメージがありますが、タイでは、未熟な青パパイヤをサラダや炒めものに使うので野菜としてのイメージが強いようです。

In Japan, papaya is one of the rich tropical fruits and considered as expensive one since most of papaya in Japan are imported from tropical area like Philippines or Hawaii, but not from Thailand. However in Thailand, juvenile green papaya is also eaten by fresh or fried like as vegetable as well as ripen papaya as fresh fruit.

この植物、中米原産のようですが、タイの気候風土にあっているのか、庭先や道端にまさしくどこにでも生えているのが見られます。自分の庭に生えているパパイヤを食べる人も多いからか、市場でも一つ５バーツ（１５円）といった信じられない安い値段で売られています。甘い果物として食べるには、収穫した後に追熟させないといけないらしく、その手間がかかるからか（品種も少し違うのかも）、青パパイヤに比べ高いですが、それでもスーパーでも５０バーツくらいで買うことができます。

Papaya is originated in central America, but Thai climate could be suitable to this fruit, so you can see papaya this plant everywhere in Bangkok such as backyard of house, road sides. Since many people could enjoy eating papaya from their backyards, price of green papaya in market is very cheap such as THB per piece. Matured papaya could be more expensive for process of ripen after harvest and might be different variety, but you can buy by THB 50 for one piece.

こういった栄養豊かなパパイアがどこにでもなっているのを見ると、タイは本当に豊かな国なんだな実感します。

I feel Thailand is really rich nature country by seeing such nutritious papaya is growing everywhere in Thailand.

タイの宝くじを買ってみました/ Try to buy Lottery in Thailand

バンコクの街角や寺院の前などで、薄い木箱のようなケースに宝くじを並べて売っているのをよく見かけます。また、バンコク市内の王宮やカオサン通りにも近いラチャダムヌン・クラン通りには、以前、宝くじ局があったこともあり、多くの宝くじ屋さんが軒を連ねています。

I could find vendors who sell public lottery on a street or in a temple. Also on a Ratchadamnoen klang Road, near the Royal palace or Khao sam road, I know many vendors are selling lottery since National Lottery Bureau used be located here.

今まで、この宝くじの買い方が良くわからなくて買ったことがありませんでしたが、今回、タイ人の知人と訪ねたワットバンプリヤイナイの境内に、何軒かが並んで宝くじ売っているところがあり、買い方も教えてもらえたので、運だめしも兼ねて一度買ってみることにしました。

However, I have never bought it since I didn't know how to buy the lottery well. I tried to purchase it since I found vendors in Wat Ban Panpri Yai Nai where I visited recently with my Thai friend.

国立宝くじ局が販売するこの公営宝くじ、１枚４０バーツで普通は同じ数字の２枚組みで売られて定価は８０バーツなのですが、販売者への手数料が含まれており、通常１００バーツ以上で売られていることが多いようです。お寺の境内で売られているのでご利益があると考えるのか、ここでの最低価格は２枚で１１０バーツでした。

The price of this lottery sold by National Lottery Bureau is THB 40 per piece but useualy it was sold a pair of two pieces, so one pair is THB 80. But you need to pay some commission to vendor so it is usually be sold more than THB100. It might be lucky in the temple area, the price was at least THB110 in there.

抽選は月に２回、普通１日と１６日の午後３時に行われ、その日の夕方には街かどで子供たちなどが、当選番号を印刷した新聞のようなものを、５バーツで売っているのを見ることができます。当選番号はインターネットでも調べられます。

Drawing the lottery is operated twice in a month usually at 3 pm. on 1st and 16th day of each month and you can see small children are selling paper showing number of winners by THB 5 on a street. Also you can check numbers by internet.

タイの宝くじの面白いのは、売られているくじ券の中で気に入った数字を選ぶことができるのですが、ぞろ目や９の入っているいわゆる「きれいな（縁起のよい）数字」ほど値段が高くなるというところです（もちろん当たる確率は同じなのですが）。上に書いた、ラチャダムヌン・クラン通りでは、人気度合いによって色々な値段の宝くじが売られています。
また、その時々で流行りの番号のようなものがあって、例えば少し前にプラユット長官が第２９代首相になった時は２９が人気の番号となり、２枚一組で１５０バーツ以上の値段になったとか。

In Thailand, you can choose your preferable number by checking lottery on a table or box that vendor shows, but for some “clean number” such as repdigit or including lucky number such as nine you need to pay more commission since they are popular, although winning chance is same of course. On the Ratchadamnoen klang Road, you can find many kind of prices according to the popularity.
And from time to time, popular lucky could be focused reflecting event of time, for example when prime minster Prayut appointed as 29th prime minister number 29 was most popular number and traded by more than THB 150.

１等賞金は２００万バーツです。２枚１組で買っていれば４００万バーツで、６桁の数字が一致しなければならず１００万枚で１枚だけです。２等は５枚で賞金は１０万バーツというように５等(１万バーツ）まであります。６桁一致するのとは別に、下２桁あうと１０００バーツ、下３桁あうと２０００バーツというボーナス賞のようなものがあり、この２桁や３桁の番号にタイの人々はこだわりをもって宝くじを買うようです。
今回、私は２６日に買ったので２６番を買いましたが、残念ながら当選番号は４４番でした。ちなみに２９が人気だった時の、当選番号は２２だったそうです。

The first prize is one for per million and price THB 2,000,000, second prize is THB 100,000 for five pieces and fifth prize is 10,000. There is a THB 2,000 prize if you get the last three digits and THB ,000 baht prize for the last two digits. And many Thai people buy lottery with their prefer two or three digits such as their birth day or license number etc.
I bought number 26 since it was 26 September but winner was 44. By the way, winning number was 22 when many people tried to buy 29.

当選した場合は、国立宝くじ局で換金してもらうようですが、２万バーツ以下の少額の当たりくじであれば、購入したところか、本屋を兼ねている様なちょっと立派な宝くじ売り場で手数料を払って賞金を受け取ることができるようです。今回は残念ながら当たらなかったので報告できませんが、いつか当たったらまた記事にします。

When you win the lottery, you can get a prize at the National Lottery Bureau. However, if the prize is less than THB 20,000 you can go to a local agent which sometime in a book store and he/she will give the money to you in cash. I would like to report how to get money if I can win sometime.

アジア各地の三輪タクシー比較考察（？）/ Many types of three-wheel taxis in Asian countries

アジアの街には、それぞれ特徴的な三輪タクシーが、手軽な市民の足として、また観光客の移動手段として活躍しています。これまでいくつかの街で撮った三輪タクシーの写真を比較してご紹介したいと思います。

You can find many kind of three-wheel taxis with unique shapes in many Asian cities. Such three wheel taxis are casual and useful transportation tool for tourists as well as citizens live in. Please see some pictures I took in some cities in Asian countries.

まずは、なんといってもバンコクのトゥクトゥク（サムロー）。トゥクトゥクとはそのエンジンの音から名づけられたとか。サムローはタイ語で３輪の意味で、このトゥクトゥクを指すこともありますが、どちらかといえば後でご紹介する人力３輪タクシーのことを指すことが多いようです。

So, let's see pictures of Tuk-Tuk or San Lor. Tuk-Tuk is called from its sound of engine and San Lor which means tricycle or three- wheels in Thai language. Now a days, San Lor seems to be mainly used for man- powered tricycle and motor tricycle called Tuk-Tuk.

このトゥクトゥク、メーターはついていなくて、値段は交渉で決めることになっています。値段を事前に決めてから乗らないと、タイ語が通じない観光客等はトラブルになることがあります。実は私もバンコクに２年半以上住んでいますが、この価格交渉が面倒くさいので、このトゥクトゥクには数えるほどしか乗ったことがなく、ほとんどがメーターのついた普通のタクシーを使っています。

You need to negotiate fare with taxi driver since Tuk-Tuk has no taxi meter. If you get on a Tuk-Tuk without pre-negotiation, you might have a trouble later, particularly if you can not speak Thai well. I have been staying in Bangkok more than two and half year, but I have a few opportunity to use a Tuk-Tuk since I don't like to negotiate with driver. I prefer to use a meter-taxi.

大きな荷物や生ものの荷物がある時や、大勢で短い距離を乗る時には便利なようです。

In case you have large and/or wet luggage like vegetable or fish or you are with many people in short distance, Tuk-Tuk could be much useful.

上のような、一般タクシーのトゥクトゥクとは、別に、アパートやコンドミニアム住民専用の少し大型のトゥクトゥクが、日本人も多く暮らすスクンビット地区では多く走っています。　アパートなどの名前がついていて、座席が二列になっているのが特徴です。

You can find another type of Tuk-Tuk which could be a little bit larger than ordinal public Tuk-Tuk and this is only for residence of some apartment or condominium, particularly in Sukhumvit area where many Japanese live in.

バンコクより北に約８０ｋｍの古都アユタヤ遺跡のトゥクトゥクは日本の昔のオート三輪ミゼットのような形で、色もちょっと可愛らしい感じです。主に観光客用のようです。

In old capital Ayutaya about 80km north from Bangkok, you can find more pretty Tuk-Tuk mainly for tourists, which resemble to old Japanese motor tricycle “Mizzetto”

ラオスの首都ビエンチャンで見かけたトゥクトゥク。バンコクのものより少しのどかな感じです。お客さんの座席は横向きになっています。

Tuk-Tuks in Vientiane in Laos, I feel it seems more calm than in Bangkok, seats for guests is along side to drive directon.

カンボジアの首都プノンペンで見かけたトゥクトゥク。バイクが座席を牽引するタイプです。

アンコールワットのものも同じような形でした。　It looks similar to that I saw in Angkor Wat.

ミャンマーのヤンゴン郊外で見たトゥクトゥク。カンボジアと似たような牽引タイプですが、座席はカンボジアのほうが少し優雅かな？

Tuk-Tuk in Myanmar, I saw it suburbs of Yangon. It looks similar that I saw in Cambodia, but I think one in Cambodia could be a little bit elegant than it in Myanmar.

スリランカでThree- Wheelerと呼ばれている３輪タクシー。私が見た中では一番小型で、個人的にも一番好きな形です。最近、タクシーメーターの設置が義務付けられたようです。

Three wheeler in Sri Lanka, I think it is most compact and cute one, and I love it. It is said taxi-meter would be compulsory recently.

フィリピン、マニラでトリシクルと呼ばれている、サイドカータイプの３輪車。自分では乗れませんでしたが、乗ったら結構迫力ありそうな感じです。

I was not able to ride in this type, but it could be exciting if I could get in?

同じ三輪タクシーでも、人力タイプのものもいくつかあ見ることができました。そちらもご紹介します。
まずは、もう一度タイのものを。バンコク都内では、渋滞の原因になると乗り入れが禁止されている人力三輪タクシーのサムロー。バンコク郊外ではまだ見ることができます。

So, let's see man-powered three cycle taxi then. In Bangkok, man powered tricycle, San Lor is restricted in Bangkok since it could cause traffic jam, but you can see San Lor in suburbs in Bangkok.

ベトナムのハノイでは、観光客向けの三輪タクシーが走っています。こちらは前に乗るタイプ。You can see tricycle in Hanoi for tourists, and tourists would be in front of driver.

ミャンマーのものは、サイドカーに前と後ろ向きに二人乗れるタイプです。見た目には優雅な感じですが、運転する人は大変そうです。

Tricycle in Myanmar is also side-car type and two persons can be seated front and back side. It looks elegant but may be driver can be heavy duty.

フィリピンのは人力のものも、やはりサイドカータイプです。

In Philippines, man powered tricycle is also side^car style.

今や世界のどの街に行っても、走っている乗用車は、結構同じような車が走っていますが、三輪タクシーは各地の個性があって見ていても楽しいです。幸い色々なところの写真を撮ることが出来ましたので、今回ちょっと整理して見ました。楽しんで頂ければ幸いです。

Now a days ordinary private cars looks similar in every city or countries, but such tricycle taxis could be very unique and interesting to see for comparing. I hope you can enjoy see many types of tricycles.

仏像とヒンズー神と/ Buddhist statute and Hindu gods and more

街角の仏像屋さん？よく見ると仏像と並んで、ヒンズーの神であるガネーシャや高僧の像や英雄？など色々な像も？
タイではインドラ、ガネーシャやガルーダなど色々なヒンズーの神も寺院の中や祠に祭られ仏教とともに信仰されており、いかにも寛容なタイらしい風景。

In the store of Buddhist statute, I can find many kind of statutes like Hindu gods, respected Buddhist monk as well as Buddhist statute.
In Thailand, many Hindu gods like Indra, Ganesha, Garuda are enshrined and respected in temples or shrines and it shows generously of Thailand.

タイの銃事情/ Firearms in Thailand

タイでは銃の所持や携帯には県庁や警察からの許可が必要ですが、ある程度の資産があれば比較的簡単に護身用等として正式に所持が出来ると言われています。
正式に登録されているものだけでも１，０００万丁、さらに警察関係者への賄賂などもあり、全くの闇ルートによるもの、灰色なものなど色々な銃が存在し、車のダッシュボード等に銃を入れている人も多いと言われています。
また、徴兵制や徴兵を免除されるための軍事訓練制度により、タイ人の多くの男性は銃の扱いには日本人などよりずっと慣れているのです。

In Thailand, possessing or bringing a gun or firearm need to be approved and registered by a local government or police, however citizens who has sizable property can be approved relatively easy way. It is said officially registered guns or firearms are around ten million and It is said more firearms would be purchased or posed through black market or gray zone by many corruption by officials. So they say many people such as taxi drivers are keeping their guns in glove box in dashboard in their cars.
Many Thai male are family with gun use because of military conscription or military drill during young age.

このため、コンビニ強盗や進路妨害の車の運転手への銃撃等銃を使ったトラブルも多く、外国人や観光客が巻き込まれないとも限りません。特にタクシー運転手のダッシュボードやトランクには護身用と称して銃刀を持っている人も多いと言います。タクシードライバーの態度が悪いといって、こちらがあまり乱暴な態度をとると、いきなり銃を持ち出すというこもあると思っていたほうが良いようです。

Therefore there are many troubles using gun in Thai such as convenience-store robbery or gun-shot between drivers after traffic trouble on roads, and it not always safe for foreigners or tourists from such troubles. Particularly, many taxi drivers are said to posses their guns or knives in their taxis for protecting themselves. If you may get angry and attack to rude attitude of a taxi driver, he might to put his gun to you.

街の中心には、銃器の専門店が並ぶ通りがあり、拳銃やライフルが店頭に陳列され（撮影禁止の店もありますが）、銃が身近に存在している感じです。

On streets in downtown in Bangkok, you can find many shops of firearms are standing side by side and displaying guns and rifles on their showcases (although some stores is prohibiting to take photos). It impressed me that gun is much familiar with Thai people than Japan.

軍事政権から首相になったプラユット首相は汚職防止と不法銃器所持の取り締まりにも力を入れており、そのことで、もう少し安全な社会になることが期待されていますが、なかなか一朝一夕にはいかないかもしれません。その間はやはり、タイは銃社会であるということを自覚しておく必要があります。

Prime Minister and army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha is now cracking down on corruption and illegal possession of firearms and it is expected that more safety society and civil life is established but it could be taking a little bit longer time. So we should recognize that we are living in society of plenty of guns for a while.

トイレの紙は・・・/ It's better not to flush toilet tissues

一つ前の記事に引き続きタイのトイレに関連する話題を。
日本からタイに来た人が、戸惑うのが、トイレの様子が少し日本と違うこと。

This article is also relating to a toilet that I wrote another topic in previous one. I suppose some Japanese might to be annoyed to find a toilet in Thailand would be a little bit different from one in Japan.

タイのトイレには残念ながらウォシュレットの付いたトイレは少ないのですが、その代わりにシャワーノズルの付いたトイレが多いです（昔は水甕だったそうですが）。このシャワー、水が結構勢いよく出るのと、角度調整が少し難しいですが、慣れると自分で色々と調節できるのでウォシュレットに負けず劣らず快適です。お湯は出ませんが、タイの水道水はそれほど冷たくないのであまり気になりません。
それとほとんどのトイレには、横にダストボックスが置いてあります（５つ星クラスのホテルでも多いです）。タイのトイレはつまり易いので、ペーパーは流さないで下さいねという意味ですので、タイに来る人は覚えておいたほうがいいかと思います。

In Thailand toilet with “wash-let” is scarce but toilet with shower nozzle is very common like a picture. This shower hose has quite high pressure water and you need to fix angle of shower, so it might be a little bit troublesome for beginner. However it could be very comfortable if you can learn how to use it. It has no hot water but it is not trouble since tap water in Thailand is not so cold.
You may find a dust-box in toilet room (even in 5-star hotel), and it is a sign asking not to flush paper inside of toilet, so it is very important to remember for people who come to Thailand.
