旗と肖像/ Flag and portrait

日本は今、ゴールデンウィークで、国民の祝日、いわゆる旗日が続き、建物の前など国旗が飾られている所が多いことだろう。ここタイでは、いつでもタイ国旗と国王・国王妃の誕生曜日の色（国王・月曜・黄色、国王妃・金曜・青色）の旗、さらに国王等王族の肖像画がいろんな所に飾られており、日本よりもっと日常生活の中に溶け込んでいる感じ。街中にも旗や肖像画を売る店もよく見られる。

Now, as Japan is just a middle of “Golden week” which consists of many national holidays (flag days), many national flag would be displayed in front of buildings, I suppose. Here in Bangkok, always national flag and symbol color flag of birthdays; yellow of King's Monday and blue of Queen's Friday, are always displayed anywhere and sometimes with portrait of Royal family. So flags and portrait are like a part of everyday life. I can find many flag and portrait stores in Bangkok.

まだ続いている反政府デモもタイ国旗を前面に掲げ、ホイッスル等国旗の三色にちなんだグッズで愛国心に訴えている。この長期化するデモ、早く解決して国民の信望の厚い王族と国旗のもと、また統一して欲しいと願っているのだが。

Long standing anti-Governmental movement is also using national flag with symbol goods such as three-color whistle for appealing patriotic feeling. I hope this anti-Governmental demonstration could be solved and people could be unified under the respected royal family and national flag.

酷暑期のバンコク/ Bangkok in the hottest season

(バンコクの鯉のぼり/Carp streamers celebration in Bangkok)

日本は風薫る爽やかな季節だが、バンコクはソンクランも終わり、いよいよ暑さのピーク酷暑期に入った。連日３６度以上という体温より高い温度で、日中の日なたは、体感温度は軽く４０度を超える。街角の花も、タイの国花でもある、ゴールデンシャワーは少し色があせ始め、灼熱の太陽を思わせる鳳凰木のオレンジが目立ってきた。毎年この花の色を見れば、いよいよ夏本番と感じる。

I guess pleasant season with fresh breeze in Japan nowadays but herein Bangkok is now hottest season just after Songkran festival. We are now in more than 36 degrees in Celsius, which is hotter than our body temperature, and we can feel more than 40 degrees in under direct sunshine in mid days. Yellow of golden shower trees which is national flower of Thailand has begun to fade away and red-orange color of flame trees (Delonix Regia) become brilliant in these days. I can realize most hottest time in Bangkok to watch this flower.

ゴールデンウィークを利用してタイを訪れる日本の方も多いと思うが、是非熱射病には気をつけて、こまめに水分補給をすることをお勧めする。
また、いよいよドリアンやマンゴーが美味しい季節になってきた。でもドリアンは体温を上げる効果があるので、食べすぎにはご注意を。

I suppose many Japanese tourists would come to Bangkok in this time since it is also a “golden week holiday season” in Japan. I would recommend them to take water frequently for avoiding heat stroke.
On the other side, it also very good season to eat delicious tropical fruits such as Durian or Mango.
However it is better to be careful to eat too much durian could make person's heat up.

一時帰国を終え関空からバンコクへ/ Way back from Osaka to Bangkok after my home leave

４月１８日、約３週間の一時帰国休暇を終え、関空からバンコク・スワナブーム空港へ。入国管理の担当官は初勤務に就く新人のようで、ベテランの係官の指導を受けながら慎重に私のパスポートをチェック。空港構内では、施設見学で研修中の航空会社の新入社員の姿も、いかにも年度初めらしい光景。

I traveled from Kansai (Osaka) airport to Suvarnabhumi (Bangkok) airport on 18 April 2014 after my 3-week home leave in Japan. I was checked by a new officer supervised by a veteran officer at the passport control. I saw a group of new employees of airliner studying facility of airport, since it was a beginning of new fiscal year in Japan.

機内は、ソンクラン休暇を日本で楽しんだタイ人や一時帰国を終えてバンコクに戻る日本人家族連れ等で満席状態。ビザ免除の効果もあり、タイ人の日本への観光客は急増しているという。そういえば、空港や各地の土産物店で随分とタイ語を見かけるようになった。
スワナブーム空港に戻れば、砂で作った小さなソンクランの飾りが。いきなり酷暑のバンコクだが、旅の疲れを出さないように頑張ろう。

The airplane was full of tourists both of Thai and Japanese who live in Thai after enjoyed Songkran holiday season. I heard Thai tourists who visit Japan are now increasing very rapidly after abolish of short term visa in Japan recently. I recognized many Thai characters in many places in Japan such as airport and souvenir shops.
When I arrived at Suvarnabhumi airport I could find decoration made by sand for cerebrating Songkan festival. I wonder I need to be careful to my health since it is hottest season of Thailand.

あべのハルカスで一時帰国中の免税ショッピング/ Duty-free shopping at Abeno Harukas

先月グランドオープンしたあべのハルカス、地上６０階（３００ｍ）で日本で最も高いビルになった。大阪の中でも、梅田や難波に比べると地味だったあべの・天王寺の活性化の起爆剤と期待されている。高校時代を過ごしたこの街を久しぶりに訪ね、その変わった部分と、変わらない部分に懐かしさと驚きを覚えた。

Abeno Harukas, which was grand-opened last month and it becomes the tallest building in Japan now with 60 floors and 300m height. Abeno/Tennoji area has not been well developed compared with Umeda and Namba area in Osaka more than decades so this building is now expected as a spearhead for regaining popularity of these areas. I visited this area after long long time absence for which area I spent in my high-school days and I was surprised to see changed parts and unchanged parts in same.

ハルカスやキューズモールなど新しい顔と天王寺公園や路地裏など古い顔が渾然として、少し東南アジアの雰囲気も漂っている。
このハルカス、オープン直後とあって、平日でも観光客等ですごい人混み、展望台に行くのは諦めて、買い物を楽しむことにした。ハルカスは、海外からの観光客向けに、消費税の免税だけではなく、５％のディスカウントクーポン発行していて、消費税が８％になった今、あわせると（手数料を少し取られても）１１％くらいのディスカウントが適応されることに。また、あまり知られていないが、外国人に適応されるこの免税、海外滞在日本人の一時帰国中の買い物にも適応されるので、今回少しだけその恩恵に与った。

New face such as Harukas or Q's mall and old face such as Tennoji-park or backstreet are combined chaotic and a little bit similar atmosphere with south-east Asia.
The Harukas was full of customers including tourists since just after grand opening, so I decided not to go to top floor for viewing but to enjoy shopping lower floors. The Harukas is now promoting for customers from foreign tourists with 5 % discount coupon and tax free shopping (Japanese VAT has became 8% after April), so foreigners can enjoy more than 11% discount with some commissions. Japanese living outside Japan can also enjoy tax free shopping during temporally home visiting, so I also could enjoy same service.

路地裏のトラットリア(大阪・西田辺）/A small trattoria in back street at Nishitanabe in Osaka

マスターが一人でやっている路地裏の小さなトラットリア。一時帰国などで大阪に帰った時に必ず立ち寄るお店。イルマーニ（手作り）という名前の通り、マスターの手料理が中心の、トラットリアというより、西洋居酒屋（バール）という感じ。今は、アンティパスト（前菜）２品とグラスワイン3杯がセットのワインセット（2000円）がおすすめメニューとか。

A small trattoria in a backstreet named "Il mani" operated by an owner chef is located near Nishitanabe station of Midosuzi subway line in Osaka. I visit this restaurant whenever I go to Osaka. The Italian meaning of "Il mani" is "by hands " and dishes of this restaurant are mainly hand made by owner chef. The restaurant names with trattoria but it seems “bars of Mediterranean”. Recommended menu could be “wine set” combined with two dishes of anti-pasta and three grasses of wines cost of JPY 2,000.

地下鉄西田辺駅からすぐだが、少し裏路に入るのでわかり難く、その分常連さんが多い。その日のおすすめ前菜料理やパスタをグラスワインで気軽に楽しめば酔いも進む。そのため、あまり良い写真が撮れなくて・・・
Khaawの記事を読んで来たと言えば、マスターからグラスワインを1杯サービスして頂けます。
店の名前はイルマーニ（Tel; 06-6608-2488)。

It is located very near to Nishitanabe station but in a backstreet, it could be a little bit hard to find and fulled with regular customers. You can enjoy recommended anti-pasta and pasta with glasses wines. I also enjoyed dinner by forgetting take good pictures of dishes, sorry.
You could be offered a glass of free wine when you say you read an article of Khaaw. Name and phone of the restaurant is “Il mani” and 06-6608-2488.

金沢の春/ Spring scene in Kanazawa

少し記事にするのが遅くなったが、４月11日から13日まで金沢で週末を過ごした。金沢には以前暮らしたことがあるが、記憶にないくらいの素晴らしい天気と桜の満開を堪能することができた。

I am sorry for writing an article a little bit late but I visited Kanazawa area for staying weekend from 11-13 April 2014.I used to be living in Kanazawa city for a couple years in some years ago but I has no memory such fine weather and could enjoy beautiful spring days.

東茶屋街で春の庭を眺めながら、抹茶を頂き、浅野川から卯辰山、兼六園と何処へ行っても快晴の下、色々な表情の桜を楽しみことができた。
その後は、加賀野菜のてんぷらや加賀料理、日本海の海の幸を堪能したが、料理の写真を撮るのも忘れて楽しんでしまった。

I enjoyed to drink powder green tea by watching a small spring garden at traditional entertainment house in the east Chaya district and then visited many sightseeing such as Asano river, Utatsu mountain and Kenroku garden and I admired many beautiful full blossom of cherry under clear sky.
After that I also enjoyed Kaga cuisines including deep fried spring local vegetables and fresh sea foods from Japanese sea but sorry for forgetting to take photo.

甲子園球場外野席での野球観戦/ Baseball watching at outfield bleachers in the Ko-shien ball park

一時帰国を利用しての野球観戦（4月10日）。残念ながら、バンコクに暮らしていると、生のプロ野球観戦は難しい。東京や地方球場で観戦に行ったことはあったが、甲子園での野球観戦は考えてみれば20年以上ぶり。大阪人の独特のパンチの効いた野次を聴きながら甲子園初体験の我が家の子供も大満足。36年ぶりに復活したチアリーダー、今のところ前回とは違って評判も良さそう、何とかチームが好成績を残して定着して欲しいところ。約3時間半のサヨナラゲームを応援したら、次の日は喉が痛かった。

I went to watch a professional baseball match at 10th of April during temporary home country visit since I could not do so in Bangkok. Although I went to watch a match in Tokyo area or other local city but this was first time to visit Ko-shien ball park more than twenty years. I enjoyed a match by hearing a jeering by fans in Osaka area with unique witness and my son also enjoyed very much too. Popularity of newly started cheer leaders of the team which was re-organized after 36 years of downtime seems quite good in spite of unpopularity of the last ones. I hope the they could cheer the good condition of team for leading victory. After cheering 3 and half hour good game I felt soar throat next day.

母校の桜/ cherry blossom of my alma mater

ちょうど４０年前に創立記念に植樹した母校の中学校のを久々に見ることができた。当時、地域の中学生数の増加のため新たに開校した中学校の第１期生となり記念植満開の桜樹した桜。大学入学とともに大阪を離れたため、満開の桜を見たのは、数えるほどしかなく、多分２０年以上ぶりに満開の桜を見ることができた。大阪市の南部に位置し、当時は人口が急激に増加し、入学した中学は１学年２０クラスもあったため、４０年前に学区を分割し１学年７クラスの中学として新たに分離独立した中学校の１期生となった。

聞けば、地域の高齢化が進み、今は１学年４クラスしかなく、生徒数は年々減少しているという。ただ在校生の間では、今も１期生が植えた桜として語り継がれていると数年前に卒業した姪に聞き、少し嬉しかった。時の流れをずっと見てきた桜、少し散り始めたの見ながら、これからも後輩たちの成育を見守っていってほしいと願った。

They say now the school only has 4 classes per grade and still decreasing number of students. I was a little bit delighted by hearing students in the school still know the story these cherries were planted by the first generation of the school. I wished these old cherries to guard the students in the school by watching the blossom began to leaving from trees.

陽光の春スキー（キロロ編）と里の春/Skiing in spring sunshine (Kiroro ski resort) and flowers of spring coming

４月８日は今シーズン最後の春スキー。４月も２週目になると平日もオープンしているスキー場は北海道でも少なくなってくる。当初は札幌国際スキー場に行こうかと思っていたが、私の２つ前の記事に対し、キロロの雪質が良かったとの情報を頂いたので、急遽キロロに行くことにした（この２つのスキー場、どちらも同じ朝里インターから３０－４０分で行くことができる）。天気は快晴、雪質もパウダースノーとは行かなかったが、この時期としては、かなり良くて、今シーズン最後の滑りを楽しんだ。
南国に住んでいて、普段スキーが出来ない分、一時帰国の際に集中して、１週間で３ヶ所の春スキーを楽しんだが、天候にも恵まれたキロロでの滑りが締めにふさわしい最高のコンディションとなった。

I enjoyed a last skiing at 8th of April. Limited ski resorts are open in weekday in 2nd week even in Hokkaido, and I was thinking go to Sapporo International ski resort first but I was informed snow quality was good in a Kiroro resort to my previous article at 5th of April, so I changed my destination to there. These two resorts are located in 30-40 minutes drive distance from same Asari interchange of the highway. The weather was clear sky and quality of snow was quite good but not powder snow, so I could enjoy best skiing at this time for finishing my skiing in this season.
As I was living in tropical country, and I was concentrating to enjoy skiing in very short time during temporally home leave, and last one was the best skiing thanks to good weather.

一方、平地では、雪解けの地面からは、福寿草の花やふきのとうのつぼみが顔を覗かせ、着実に春がきていることを告げている。

On the other hand, at the bottom of the mountain, spring plants such as flowers of adonis and bud of fuki, an early spring delicacy, are coming out from snow melting ground for showing spring coming.

北海道渡島半島付近上空/ Oshima peninsula from airplane

北海道春スキー（テイネ編）と海鮮居酒屋

札幌市内から車で３０分程度で行けるサッポロテイネスキー場。山頂付近のハイランド部分だけの営業だが、この時期、札幌から行ける最も近いスキー場（のはず）。前日からの積雪と低温（山頂付近で－６℃）で、緩斜面は、この時期としてはかなり良い雪質で楽しめた。ただ女子大回転コースなどの急斜面は、ガチガチのアイスバーンで、技術も体力もない私にはかなりきつかった。
山頂付近の、樹氷は綺麗だったが、札幌市内や石狩湾の景色はほとんど見えずちょっと残念。テイネスキー場、今週からゴールデンウィークまでは週末だけの営業。

I enjoyed spring skiing in Sapporo Teine resort, which located around 30 min. drive from downtown Sapporo and nearest ski resort from Sapporo in spring season, I suppose. Snow quality in gentle slope was quite good by snow falling from day before yesterday and low temperature (-6 degree Celsius) around top of the mountain, but frozen slope in steep one such as Woman’s Giant Slalom ; which was used at Olympic competition 42 years ago, was too tough for me.
Trees covered with silver frost was beautiful on the top of mountain but view from mountain, in case of clear sky you can see Sapporo downtown and gulf of Ishikari, were not so good. This ski resort is opening only weekend until Japanese golden week, beginning of May.

スキーの後は、札幌都心の日帰り天然温泉で汗を流し、学生時代の友人数名とプチ同窓会。お店の名物、かにぶっかけ出し巻き玉子(６８０円）や板盛刺身１０点盛（５００円）の量と味と値段にびっくり。こんな週末をいつでも過ごせる札幌の人がちょっと羨ましくなった。お店の名前は札幌駅北口の「居酒屋 にほんいち 別宴邸」。

I met some friends during my university student day at Japanese seafood pub after I enjoyed natural hot spring in down town Sapporo. I was surprised with taste, volume and price of popular dishes of this restaurant, such as Japanese omelets with crab meat (JPY680) and 10 kinds of Sashimi (sliced raw fishes) in fisherman's style (JPY 500). I envy people living in Sapporo who can enjoy such joyful weekend easily. The name of the restaurant is “ Izakaya Nihon-ichi” at north exit of Sapporo station.

冬に逆戻り/ return back to winter weather

昨日の夕方に雨から雪に変わり、今朝はすっかり雪景色の北海道千歳市。一昨日の春スキーでの雪質が悪かったと書いたのが、良くなかったのかなあ。
今日は車の雪を降ろして、久しぶりの雪道運転に、夜に凍結しなければいいけけどなあ。
今日は予定が入っていてスキーには行けないけど、滞在中の日程を調節して、もう一度か二度、滑りに行かないと・・・

Winter landscape again in Chitose city, Hokkaido, after changing rain to snow last evening. It might be a coincidence with I blamed snow quality in ski resort at day before yesterday (last article).
I need to clear snow on a roof of my car before driving in snow road. I hope no icy road in the night.
I will not be able to go skiing today since I have another appointment, but I would like to go skiing again with rearrangement of my schedule from tomorrow.

雪融け進む北海道で春スキー（ふらの編）/ Enjoy spring ski in melting season in Hokkaido (Furano)

桜満開、春爛漫の大阪から北海道に。家内の実家のある千歳では、この１０日ほどですっかり雪も融け春めいたという。

I have arrived at Hokkaido where just spring has begun from Osaka where full bloom of cherry blossom in middle of spring. Chitose city, my wife's home town and an airport city in Hokkaido, has just changing her face to spring with melting snow just in ten days.

昨日は別の用事もあって、千歳から富良野へ。道に雪もなく平日で空いていたこともあるが、道東道を使って約２時間で到着、昔に比べると随分と近くなった。
スキー場は山頂付近でも気温が１０度近くあり、雪質は決して良いとはいえないけれど、１年ぶりの雪の感触を楽しんだ。スキーの後は、回転寿司とサッポロクラシックの生ビール、回転寿司といえども鮮度も良く北海道のレベルはやはり高いなあ。バンコクで寿司を食べるのを我慢してて良かった（思わず写真を撮るのを忘れてしまってごめんなさい）。
常夏のバンコクから、大阪・岡山で花見を楽しみ、続いて北海道で春スキーのこの日程、タイ人のに言うと、きっと羨ましがられるだろうなあ。
日本のこの四季の変化と自然の多様性をもっとアピールできれば、海外からのお客さんを呼べると思うのだけれど。

I visited to Furano city, center of Hokkaido for enjoying skiing and other business with two hour drive by Do-to high way. Thanks to good road condition without snow and light traffic, I was able to reach in about two hours, which became very shorter than used be.
Unfortunately, temperature was about 10 degree Celsius too high for skiing so snow condition was not so good, but still I was able to enjoy skiing first time for a year. And after skiing, I enjoyed to taste fresh sea food in sushi-go-round restaurant (Kaiten sushi) with cold drought Sapporo classic beer. I was astonished at high quality of sushi restaurant in Hokkaido even in sushi-go -round, and I realized it was be worth avoiding to eat sushi in Bangkok. (Sorry for forgetting to take pictures.)
I wondered my friends in Thai could envy me in case I talked them of my itinerary in Japan, enjoying in skiing in Hokkaido just after enjoying cherry blossom in Osaka.
In same time I wonder it could be more possibility to invite more foreign tourists by introducing variability and diversity of Japanese nature and climate.

新年度の始まり/ Beginning of new fiscal/school year

本日(４月１日）は、平成２６年度の始まりの日。皆さんも色々と出会いと別れの忙しい日をお迎えかもしれない。特に、今年は消費税の値上げも重なり、いつになく忙しい年度初めを迎えているかもしれない。
幸い、我が家は、一時帰国休暇をもらい、実家の大阪でゆったりとした朝を迎えている。ただ、当初の予定より日本への帰国が遅れ、昨日の早朝にバンコクから大阪に到着、そのまま、岡山へ日帰りで往復、今日は昼の便で北海道・千歳に出発と、休暇期間中としては、忙しい日程になってしまった。

Today, 1st of April, is a beginning day of fiscal/school year of 2014 in Japan, and I wonder some people are having very busy morning of today. Some people could be affected by uplating tax rate of VAT from 5 to 8 %.
My family is fortunately having relatively relax day in my hometown Osaka, since I am taking home leave since yesterday. My itinerary became a little bit tight as a holiday schedule as arriving at Osaka from Bangkok yesterday early morning and one-day round trip to Okayama same day then today I fry from Osaka to Hokkaido; Chitoshe since I had to delay flights from Bangkok to Osaka a few days.

会計年度や学校の年度、まさか桜の咲く時期に合わせて、４月開始にしたわけではないだろうが、この桜咲く時期に出会いと別れが多いことが、日本人をなお一層桜好きにしていることは間違いないように思う。
我が家も７年前の４月に東京から岡山に転勤になり、わずか１年で金沢に転勤になった経験があり、この桜咲く烏城の見える旭川で多くの出会いと別れがあった。我が家の子供は、小学校入学直前に別れた友達と満開の旭川で６年ぶりの再開を楽しんだ。小学校６年間で子供たちは大きく成長したが、それを見守る親はどうなのかなあとも思ってしまった一日でもあった。

I don't think a start of fiscal/school year from April been set for cherry blossom season but the impressive meeting and separation season makes Japanese loving cherry blossom, I suppose.
Also My family had an experience to come Okayama in cherry season from Tokyo 7 years ago and after just one year I had to leave from Okayama to Kanazawa in same season at banks of Asahi river over looking U-jyo (castle of crow) with full cherry blossom.
My son met his friend first time after six year, for during his six year he entered a elementary school in Kanazawa and graduated his elementary school in Bangkok. I recognized children has made remarkable growth during six years but I am not sure same for parents or not.

余談ながら、昨日は我が家の子供にとって、子供料金で鉄道を利用できる最終日、そういうこともあり、少々窮屈な日程だったが、昨日とんぼがえりで岡山往復することにした。なお。タイの国鉄の子供料金は、年齢や学校年度ではなく、身長（１５０ｃｍ）で決まっているので（以前の記事にも記載してます）、こんなことはことを考える必要もないのだが。
また、今住んでいるタイでは学校は５月に始まり（４月中旬のタイ正月ソンクラン明け）、予算年度は米国と同じく１０月から始まるので、日本人ような４月１日に対する思入れは全くないようだ。

By the way, yesterday was a last day for my son to use train with a child ticket, since Japanese system allows 6th grade child can use child ticket until 31 March. That is a one reasin why I visited Okaya in such tight schedule. However in Thailand I am now living, child need to pay adult fee whenever his/her heights become over 150 cm toll (please refer my another article), so I don't need to consider such year end fare system.
And in Thailand, school begins May, after Thai new year; Songkran and ficasl year begins 1st of October; which is same as USA, 1st of April has no such special meaning as Japanese.
