タイビールの味/ Taste of Beer in Thailand

タイ（バンコク）のビールといえば、ビアチャンとビアシン（シンハー）が双璧なのは、随分以前に書いた。個人的には、ビアチャンクラシックが、ビアシンに比べ安い上、甘みとホップの香りが、少しサッポロ黒生に似た感じがして、ずっと愛飲してきた。
このビアチャン、味のばらつきが以前から少し気になっていたが、最近そのバラつきが酷くなったというこか、はずれに当たってがっかりすることが多い。ビールの味は、その日の体調や雰囲気で変わるので、そうとも思っていたが、これだけ続くと確実に品質が低下しているように感じる（なにかアルコール添加されているような感じ）。ビアシン系列のビアレオは水っぽいし、ビアシンは少し焦げくさい感じがするけど、安心して飲めるという点では、やはりビアシンに軍配があがるのかなあ？
当面は、チャンの復活を期待しつつ、チャンとシンを交互に飲む日々が続きそう。
（ビールの味を語れるほど、舌が肥えている訳ではないのですが、ビアチャンの復活にエールを送る意味で敢えて書かせて頂きました。）
ちなみに、いつも私がセブンイレブンで買うこれらのビールの値段は、お徳用大瓶2本セットで、チャンがちょうど１００バーツ、レオが１０８バーツ、シンが120バーツで、この20バーツの差は結構大きいのかなあと思っています。

I used to write that Beer Chang and Beer Singha (called Beer-Sin in here in Bangkok) are most popular brand in Bangkok. Personally, I have been loving to drink Beer Chang continuously since I feel taste of sweetness and flavor of hop of Beer Chang slightly similar to Sapporo drought, which I used to love to drink in Japan.
Sometimes I used to be disappointed of the unstable taste of Beer Chang, however I have recognized chance of disappointment of bad taste steadily increased recently. I understand taste of beer could be influenced by feeling and atmosphere of tasting but I feel quality of beer could be degraded certainly. I am not sure but I feel something like distilled alcohol could be added to Beer.
Beer Leo, which is also produced by affiliate company of Beer Shingha, to be felt tasteless by me and Beer Shingha seems to be felt of a little bit be burnt, but I need to buy Beer Shingha for a while by expecting quality of Beer Chang will be recovered. ( I understand my ability of taste can not be superior to criticize the company but I would like to say with my expectation for improvement.)
For your reference, I would like to show you a price of each beer, THB 100 for Beer Chang, THB 108 Beer Leo and THB 120 for Beer Singha for each 2-large-bottle pack in Seven-eleven.

セブンイレブンキャンペーンの景品/ Gift of Seven-Eleven stamp campaign

以前、セブンイレブンのスタンプキャンペーンのことを書いたが、１，２００枚のスタンプがたまったので、折りたたみテーブル・椅子のセット（１，０００枚）と枕付レジャー用（？）のマット（200枚）に交換してきた。今月始めに、スタンプ帳をお店に持っていったら、約3週間待たされ、やっと貰うことができた。あと１００枚分スタンプが溜まったので、傘に交換して貰おうと思ったら、景品が届くのは、年明けになるという。さすが人気にキャンペーン。
写真が景品のテーブルセットとマット、後のデッキチェアは、昨年の景品（500枚分）。テーブルと椅子の表面にはセブンイレブンのロゴが。

I used to write an article of Seven-Eleven stamp campaign, I finally get gifts; folding table and chairs set (1,000 stamps) and relaxing mat (200 stamps). Although I brought stamp sheets for exchanging gifts at the beginning of this month, I had to wait nearly three weeks for getting them. And I tried to get one more gift; umbrella for 100 stamps, I was told I should wait until next January . I realized how the campaign is so popular.
Table and chair set which I get and a deck chair behind is last year's gift that I got. On the face of table and chair, you can see logo of seven-eleven.

民主記念塔でのデモ（2013年11月22日）/ Demonstration at Democracy Monument (22.11.2013, Bangkok)

　

元タクシン首相の帰国につながる恩赦法の国会審議に端を発し、民主記念塔の周りを反政府グループが占拠して10日以上経った。デモも反政府（民主党；黄シャツ）、政権与党（タイ貢献党；赤シャツ）双方が、断続的に繰り返しており、なかなか収まりそうになさそうな雰囲気。
民主記念塔の周りの舞台では歌謡ショーのような余興も行われており、まだ緊迫した雰囲気ではないが、法律の審議が国会の上院、下院双方の動きに加え、憲法裁判所も絡んで、今後、どうなるのか、まだまだよく分からない。
市内の渋滞も酷い上、予想がつかなくなってきている。いずれにしても、3年前のような悲劇にならずに、早く収まって欲しいと思うばかり。上の右の写真は普段の民主記念塔の様子。

Demonstration movement triggered by an amnesty bill proposed by the government which may allow former Premier, Thaksin Shinawatra back to Thailand has occupied around Democracy Monument more than ten days. The demonstration rallies have been organized by both anti-government (Democratic party; yellow shirts) and pro-government (Pheu Thai Party, red shirts) continuously and seems not to be settled down soon.
Atmosphere around the Democracy Monument was not so seriously as entertain attraction such as music concert was operated when I visited, however it is difficult to predict future since discussion and decision in the the Senate and the lower house as well as the Constitution Court are very complicated.
The traffic in Bangkok become worse and unpredictable, I hope this confusion could be settle soon without hard conflict like a tragedy three year ago. A picture right side in upper is Democracy Monument at usual time.

屋台のバインミーとハノイ旧市街の風景/ Banh-My at a street hawker and scene of The Old Quarter in Hanoi

ハノイ滞在の最終日、やっと旧市街で、バインミーの屋台を見つけることができ、持ち帰り用に注文した。フランスパンをハサミで切り、バターとレバーペースト（聞いてみるとここのは、豚のレバーとのこと）をぬった後に、ベーコンやソーセージや野菜など好きなものを指差して入れてもらい、最後にソースをふりかけて完成（調べてみるとニュクマム；魚醤らしい）。値段は２０，０００ドン（約1ドル）、屋台にしてはやや高めなのは、やはり観光地だからか。

I was able to find a street hawker of Banh-My in The Old Quarter at the last day of Hanoi. When I ordered one for take-away, she cut and opened french type bread with scissors and spread butter and lever paste (she said it was pork lever) and then I selected favorite filling such as sausage, bacon and vegetables by indexing. And then she added sauce on it, I found it could be fish fermented sauce; nuoc mam.Price of one piece was VND 20,000 (about USD1), it could be alittle bit high since famous tourist spots?

足元にオーブンレンジがあって、そこで温めてくれる。「あれっ？電気は？」と聞くと、上の電線を指差しながらにっこり笑う、さすがベトナム人はしたたか。

Then she put it in an electronic oven-toaster for warming it under the table. But when I asked to her “ from where you can get electricity?”, she just to index electricity wire over her and smiled. What a tough people they are!.

いくつかの、ハノイ旧市街の写真もお楽しみ下さい。/ Please find and enjoy some pictures I took in The Old quarters in Hanoi.

フォー（米粉麺）とヴェトナムコーヒー/ Pho; Vietnamese rice noodle soup and Vietnamese coffee

ハノイ旧市街、ホンキン湖の周りを散策し、昼食はフォーにした。路上で食べる昼食にも心惹かれたが、夜のフライトのことも考え、観光客向けの小奇麗な店にした。さっぱりした味付けの鶏肉のフォーは、出された調味料で自分なりに味を調整して食べろということらしい。私は、とうがらしを少々と、酢橘のような、タイでマナオーと呼ばれているかんきつを絞って食べた。スープは鶏のダシがよく出ていて、美味しかった。４５，０００ドン（約2ドル）とビール２３，０００ドン（約1ドル）は観光客向けのやや高めの値段かもしれないが、3ドルあまりで軽い昼食が取れてちょうど良かった。
食後は、歩道でプラスティックの小さなイスとテーブルで練乳入りのヴェトナムコーヒーを楽しんだ。
濃いコーヒーの底には練乳が先に入れてあり、かき混ぜるとほのかに甘いミルクコーヒーの出来上がり。コーヒーを飲みながら疲れを癒していたら、道路を挟んだ向かいの歩道で、散髪が始まった。壁に立てかけた鏡と鋏だけの散髪屋さん。

During shopping by rambling in The Old Quarter along a Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi, I took a light lunch by eating Pho, Vietnamese rice noodle soup with chicken. I was a little bit attracted by eating on the street but I decided to take a lunch in a relatively clean restaurant for tourists since I had to board a night flight back to Bangkok in same day. I understood that I should to arrange taste of soup by seeing many splices and sauses served on table, so I put some dried chili and squeezed citron like a lime. Soup was well tasted by stock of chicken and I enjoyed.
VND 45,000 (just more than USD 2) for Pho and and VND 23,000 (USD 1+) could be set for tourists but still good price for me.
After the lunch I enjoyed Vietnamese milk coffee on sidewalk, small plastic tables and chairs were set. Condensed mike was already poured in the cap before strong Vietnamese coffee put in, and when I stirred coffee before tasting lightly sweet one.
I found a barber started to cut his customer's hair on the sidewalk of another side in front of me. Very simple barber's shop with mirror leaned against wall and his scissors.

バインミーの続き/ Sequel of Banh-my in Hanoi

ハノイ滞在の初日にホテルのルームサービスで、高級バインミーを食べてしまったこともあり、今回は少しバインミーにこだわった（仕事の関係であまりゆっくり食事ができないこともあって）。街の屋台は残念ながら見つけられなかったが、ショッピングセンターの中の店やフードコートでいくつか頼んでみた。
まずは、茹で鶏のささみを挟んだバインミー、何故かディスカウントされていて、１１，０００ドン、少し時間が経っていたためか、ちょっと肉がぱさぱさだった。

Since I ate very gorgeous Banh-my first night of stay in Hanoi, I tried to find many Banh-my during this Hanoi stay. Unfortunately I could not find street hawkers of Banh-my, I could enjoy some Banh-my at local shopping center or food- court.
First one was filled with boiled breast of chicken which price was discounted to VND 11,000 I don't know the reason. I felt a little bit lack of moisture probably too long passed after cooking, may be.

次は、鶏肉と牛肉の照り焼きのようなものが入ったバインミー、１８，０００ドン、ちょっとスパシーで美味しかった。ベトナム揚げパン・バイン ティウ、一つ４，０００ドンも合わせて買って、結局ホテルで食べた。

Next was filled with teriyaki grilled chicken and beef (VND18,000) which was a little spicy and good taste. I took it away with deep fried Vietnamese bread; Banh Tieu (VND4,000) and in the hotel room.

最後に、これもバインミーなのかどうか分からないが、細長いパンに、鶏肉のレバーペーストを塗った、食事というより、おやつのようなバインミー１０，０００ドン。一緒に飲んだ、グァバジュースが３５，０００ドンでこちらのほうがずっと高かった。
なお、挟まれている具については、店員さんが、ほとんど英語が分からなかったのと、ベトナム語表記もしかなかったので、少し違っているかもしれません。いずれにしても、初日のバインミーがいかに高かったかが、よく分かった。

Last one is I am not sure I can say it is also Banh-my or not. It was thin and small bread with chicken river spread (VND 10,000), price of Guava juice (VND 35,000) was much higher than bread.
Material I wrote above could be different, since store keepers cannot understand English and only Vietnamese could be written on POP of the Banh-my. Any way I recognized again the price of room service was very much expensive.

ベトナムのサンドイッチ・バインミー/ Banh my Vietnamese sandwich

今日から仕事でハノイに滞在。少々疲れていたのと仕事も残っていたので夕食はホテルのルームサービスで、ベトナムのサンドイッチ、バインミーに。値段は２６０，０００ドン（約USD１３）。挟んであるのが、アヒルのコンフェとガチョウのレバーのテリーヌと超高級品ながら、街の屋台等に比べると10倍以上の価格？勿論美味しかったけど、ちょっと失敗したかなあ？明日はやはり外に食べに行こう。

I am staying in Hanoi from this afternoon. I decided to take supper in my hotel room and ordered Vietnamese sandwich; Banh-my since I was exhausted and has still tasks remaining. The price was VND 260,000 (approx. USD 13). Although filling was supreme expensive material, duck confit and goose liver terrine, it could be more than ten times than sold in street hawker? Of cause, taste was great but I felt a little bit regret and I decided to go out to eat tomorrow.

ピマーイ遺跡/ Ruins of Phimai

タイ東北部、イサーン地方にあるクメール様式のピマーイ遺跡。11世紀ごろ、アンコールワットより古く建てられたといわれ、規模はずっと小さいが外見はアンコールワットによく似ておりアンコールワットの原型とも言われているようだ。アンコールワットより小さく訪れる人も少ないが、その分、遺跡としての雰囲気がある。

Ruins of Phimai located in Northeast of Thailand known as Isan is popular one of the beautiful Khmer style temple. It was believed to be build in 11th century and older than Angkor Wat. The shape of temple is very similar to the Angkor Wat and could be model of this. Comparing to the Angkor Wat, visiting people is much less but atmosphere as ruins feels much better and quiet.

また近くの3000年前から1500年前頃までに埋葬された人骨が見られるバーンプラサート墳墓遺跡も訪ねた。墳墓では、古い時代から幾層にも重なった人骨が見られる。ガイドさんの説明によると、昔、偉いお坊様が近くで瞑想した際のお告げで、この場所が発見されたとのこと。時代によって、埋葬されている体の方角や、頭の角度が異なり、骨格等からも色々なことが分かるという。
この地方で、古くから侵略と征服が繰り返され、それによって色々な文化の交流があったことがよく分かる。

I also visited Baan Prasat ancient tomb ruins in which I could find many buried and layered skeletons from 3,000 to 1,500 years ago. According to explanation by a guide, the place was found by prophecy of an eminent Buddhist priest after his meditation. Many things have been discovered with these buried skeletons and accessories and way of burying such as direction of bodies or angle of head are different according to the era.
I reconsigned that invasion and conquer have been repeated from ancient time and cultural exchange also has been done.

高速バスの旅in Thailand/ Express way bus trip in Thailand

少し前の記事で、バンコクからナコンラチャシマへの鉄道の旅のことを書いたが、その帰路は高速バスを利用、ナコンラチャシマのバスターミナルからバンコク北ターミナルまでの約4時間の小旅行。バスターミナルから30分おき（0分と30分）にバスが出ていて、午後4時10分前ぐらいにターミナルに着いて運よく午後4時発のバスに乗ることができた。バスは列車と違って定刻に出発、渋滞もさほどなくて、午後8時少し前にバンコクの北ターミナルに到着、特急列車より結果として約1時間短い旅だった（ただし、渋滞がひどい時は、何時間かかるか分からないけど）。バスに乗る時に、ミネラルウウォーターと小さい菓子パンを頂いた。バスは勿論エアコン完備で、トイレもついていて結構快適。その反面、トイレ付なので、途中休憩もなく、4時間バスは走り続け。日本のバスほどシートが良くないので、バンコクに着いたときには、少々お尻が痛かった。途中、カオヤイの山岳地帯を抜け、結構景色も楽しむことができた（あまり良い写真が取れなかったのが残念）。料金は220バーツで、列車の特急料金の約半分、経済的だが、旅情という点では、鉄道の旅にはかなわないかなあというのが私の感想。

I described an article on railway travel from Bangkok to Nakon Rachashima recently, I rode a high-way bus on back home. From bus terminal in Nakon Rachashima to north bus terminal ion Bangkok about 4 hour trip. From Bus terminal bus start every thirty minutes (0 and 30 minutes), as we arrived at 10 minutes before 4 and luckily we could ride on 4 o'clock bus. Bus started on time (it was different from train in the morning) and arrived at around 8 o'clock ( it was almost on time) of 4 hour travel. But if you were caught in traffic jam, it would be difficult to expect when you arrice.
The bus fully air-conditioned with toilet, so bus runs without break. The seat was not so good compared with Japanese bus, so when I arrived at Bangkok I felt slightly pain at my bottom.
On the way to Bangkok, bus run through mountain area of Kao Yai and you could enjoy to look surround scene (sorry I could not take good pictures). Fare for one adult was THB 220 and it is near half price of 2nd class train fare. I recognize bus is superior than train trip in economical aspect but from the aspect at emotional and mind, train is much attractive for me.

バンコク日本人学校大運動会/Sports festival of Thai-Japan association school

小中学校あわせて生徒数約3千人と世界でも最大規模を誇るバンコク日本人学校（泰日協会学校）の大運動会が開催された。生徒の家族や教職員など関係者も含めると約8千人が参加して楽しんだ。バンコクに住む日本人は、在留届けを出している人だけでも3万５千人、色々な滞在者や旅行者を加えれば6万とも10万ともいわれているが、その約1割以上が参加するバンコク在住日本人の一大イベント。
雨期がようやく終わり、少し過ごしやすくなったとはいえ、３２～３℃の炎天下、一生懸命競技する生徒も汗だくだけども、周りの応援する人々も汗まみれ埃まみれ。
運動会の分刻みのスケジュールが、ほとんど狂うことなく進んでいくのを見て、先生方のご苦労は並外れたものではないだろうと感激するとともに、日本もまだまだ捨てたものじゃないと妙に感心した。
見ていて同じような感想を持った人もいるのではないだろうか？親たちはきっと予定通り進まないタイの生活で少なからず苦い経験があるはずだから・・・

Sports festival of Thai-Japan association school (Bangkok Japanese school), number students of both elementary and junior-high is almost 8,000, is operated today, 3 November 2013. Total number of participants would be around 8,000 including family of students and teaches enjoyed the sports festival. Total number of Japanese living in Bangkok is said sixty thousand or one hundred thousand including mid-term stay or travelers, at least 35,000 residents are registered in Japanese Embassy. So more than one-tenth Japanese living in Bangkok attended this event.
The weather in Bangkok in this season is relatively cool and dry since rainy season just finished , however temperature is still around 32-3 degree Celsius in sunshine. So cheering parents and family all are soaked in sweat as well as playing students.
I was impressed minute-by-minute schedule has been operated on time and I appreciate teachers' amazing task. Also I recognized advantage of Japanese good nature “ punctual” again and I have a hope for good future of Japan.
I wonder many parents could have similar impression since many parents had some bad memory of behind the schedule or cancel of appointment by Thai style.

タイ国鉄の旅/ Travel on state railway of Thailand

バンコクからタイ東北部のナコンラチャシマまで約２６０ｋｍをタイ国鉄の特急で旅をした。ダイヤが遅れがちなことであまり評判の良くない国鉄。私たちの乗った特急も午前５時４５分出発予定が、約３０分遅れでバンコク・ファランポーン駅を出発、到着は予定より約１時間遅れで、午前１１時過ぎ、結局、約５時間弱の旅を楽しんだ。
乗った車両は２等車両（タイは３等車両が一般車両）で、エアコンは少し効きすぎなので、薄い上着を羽織っていたほうが良いくらい。

I enjoyed train trip from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima (about 260km north-east Bangkok) on a special express. State railway known usually unfavorably as it always delays and my train also started at around 06:15 (which on-time was 05:45) from Hua Lam Phong station and arrived around 11:00 which was behind more than one hour, so I enjoyed almost 5 hour travel in the train. I was in 2nd class coach (3rd class is standard coach in Thailand) and air-conditioner was a little bit too strong so I wore a light jacket in the coach.

出発してしばらくすると、飛行機の機内サービスのような飲み物（熱いコーヒーかジュース）と軽食（この日はアンパンのような菓子パン）の車内サービスがある。私たちは昼前に列車を降りたが、昼食時に乗っているとお弁当のサービスもあるという。

A coach attendant served hot drinks (tea or coffee) or soft drinks with light snack 20-30 min after leaved station like a cabin service in plane, I enjoyed a cup of coffee and red-bean bun. I heard if I were at lunch time, I could be served a lunch box also.

左の写真；車掌さんの案内は腰に付けた携帯スピーカーから、ちょっとカッコいい。右の写真；週末は結構、満席に。早朝の出発のため寝ている人も多い。
Left;Announce by car conductor is voiced through potable speaker on his waist, it looks a little bit cool.
Right; It seems fully booked in weekend, many passengers sleeping since it start early morning.

日本の列車に比べると、線路の保線状況もかなり劣り、結構、横揺れ・縦揺れがあるし、徐行区間も多いので、なかなかスピードアップは難しい感じ（標識を見ていると、最高時速は９０ｋｍのようだった）。車窓からは、放置されたような車両も時々見られ、評判があまり良くないのも納得できる。
とはいえ、少々揺れるが、タイの田園風景を見ながら、ゆっくりと進むのもなかなか旅情があるし、着いたホームで地元の食べ物等が売られているのを見るのものんびりしていて良かった。
子供料金は年齢ではなく身長で決められるので、小学生でも１５０ｃｍを超えると大人料金とのこと、理由を尋ねたら、身長はごまかせないからとのこと。

I felt condition of maintenance of railway was worse than Japanese and I felt bad swing and bumping and had many slow down section, so I think to improve condition could be very hard task.
I could see many bad maintained or abandoned coaches along railroad. I understood bad reputation of state railway.
However I could enjoy to watch country side scenery from window of train relatively slowly and I could see lively vender hawker on the platform of the railway station.
I was interested in to hear fee of child is decided by his heights not by age and the reason is heights cannot be disguised, when I asked why?

ナコンラチャシマまでの2等特急料金４２５バーツ。飛行機に比べれば安いが、高速バスに比べれば少々高め。
Fare of 2nd class coach of special express from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima is THB425, which is much cheaper than plane but higher than express bus service.
