夜明けと夕暮れのセミ/ Cicada in dawn and sunset

タイやカンボジアのセミは、３月～４月ころの一番暑い時期の夜明け前や夕暮れ時に鳴いているようだ。他の時期にも鳴いているのに気づいていないだけかもしれないが、夜明け前のアンコールワットで盛んに鳴いていたセミは日が昇るといつの間にか鳴き止んでいた。バンコクでも、どうも夜明け前の短い時期と夕暮れ時にかセミの鳴き声は聞こえない。夜明けのアンコールワットのセミのとバンコクの夕暮れのセミ鳴き声を聞き比べてみてください。

（アンコールワットのセミの鳴き声/Shrill of cicada in Angor Wat）

Cicada in Thailand and Cambodia seems to shrill before dawn or after sunset in hottest season from March to April, since I have never heard in any other time. Loud shrill of cicada before dawn in Angkor Wat had been faded out after sunrise. In Bangkok, I have never heard shrill of cicada except dawn and sunset in same season. Please listen shrill in Angkor Wat and Bangkok.

破壊と再生/ Destruction and restoration

戦争、内戦、宗教闘争、人為的な破壊は歴史的な建造物を一瞬で破壊する。柱には、近年の内戦時の銃撃戦の傷跡が残っている。一方、自然の力は、少しずつ建物の姿を自然に還そうとする。「建物の保存の為には、木を切ったほうがいいけれど、そうすると観光客が来なくなってしまうので難しいのです。」と解説してくれたガイドさんの声が耳に残っている。遺跡のあちらこちらで各国の援助を受けながら修復作業が進められてる、真新しく修復された部分もそのうち、周りに馴染んでいくのだろうか。

War, civil war and religious conflicts, human powers destroyed historical heritage instantly. Scars by bullets are still remaining on surface of pillars. On the other hand, natural powers are destructing them in much longer term. “We understand it could be better to cut down trees for preventing ruins from destruction by trees, however if we did so it would make ruins less attractive. This is big dilemma.” explanation by a tourist guide still in my heart. We can see restoration of ruins are under construction everywhere in the area. I hope these restructed parts could be harmonized with surrounding parts in future.

夜明けのアンコールワット/ Angkor Wat in dawn

太陽を背にして刻々と変わる表情を見ようとアンコールワットには夜明け前から多くの人が訪れる。真西に向かって建てられているため、春分と秋分の頃には、参道からアンコールワットの後からまっすぐ朝日が昇ってくるのを見ることができる。

Many tourists come to Angkor Wat from before dawn wising to see changing color of buildings with backdrop of sunrise. Since the Angkor Wat is built straight to west, you can view sun is rising straight back from the temple on approach road during equinox season.

国境/National border

タイ・カンボジア国境を陸路で越境。空港での入国手続きは慣れているつもりだが、徒歩での国境越えは始めての経験。徒歩やトラックで越境する人々に加え、荷車に文字通り山積みの荷物を乗せて越境する人々など、国境の街は活気にあふれている。二国間の経済力や産業発展度合いの違いを考えれば、色々な問題もあるのだろうが、活気あふれる国境の街は単純に面白い。

I entered Cambodia from Thailand through inland border control. I am familiar with passport control in airports but this is my first experience through immigration on foot. We can see active city with energetic many people such as travelers by foot or with full loaded hand-drawn cart as well as track drivers. Maybe we need to consider many difficult challenges caused by difference of economy power and development of industry, however it is simply fun to see active city.

病院のロビー/ Lobby in hospital

バンコクのいくつかの国際病院は、外国人専用の受付もあり、日本語でも安心。建物も立派で、ロビーでは生演奏も行われ、ホテルのようにリラックスできる。その分、診察費や薬代も高いので、健康保険は必須。

In some international hospitals in Bangkok, receptions for foreigners including Japanese are well prepared and you don't need to be worried about medical service without speaking Thai. You can relax at lobby listening live music like a superior hotel. However fare for medical examination and medicine is quite expensive, so you need to join health insurance scheme in advance

水上バス漂流/ Drifted boat in Chaopraya river

帰宅途中の水上バス（チャオプラヤエクスプレス）、少し様子がおかしいと思っていたら、どうやらエンジンが故障したらしく漂流し始めた。しばらく漂っていると、通りかかった船が曳航してくれて、近くの小さな桟橋へ。乗り合わせた人々も落ち着いていて、だれも騒がない。いつも渋滞になれているからか、こういった時のタイ人は本当に辛抱強くて感心する。

On a boat, Chaopraya express, I took on the way back home, I felt something unusual atmosphere. I found an engine was stopped and the boat started to drifting. After drifting for a while, the boat was towed to small pier by another boat passed by. All passengers were very calm and nobody became noisy. I was very impressed with good patient of Thai people and I wonder such patient could be nourished by heavy trafic jam in Bangkok.

バンコク知事選ポスター/ campaign poster for Governor of Bangkok

３月３日にバンコク知事選が行われた。知事選が近づくと、候補者の写真と選挙公約、それに番号を書いたポスターが街のあちらこちらに掲げられる。タイ人は名前が長くて書くのが難しいからか、投票は番号で行われる。ラッキーナンバーに拘るタイ人にとって、候補者の番号も選挙戦の重要な要素らしい。ただし、今回の選挙ではラッキーナンバーはあまり関係なかったようだが。

Huge numbers of campaign posters were displayed for forthcoming election of Governor of Bangkok, which was held in 3rd of March 2013.
The campaign poster shows pictures, platform as well as number of candidate. Voting is operated by writing number since name of Thai people seems long and difficult to write, I suppose.
As many Thai people believes lucky number, allocated number is also very important factor in election strategy. However, this time seems no relation of result of the election and lucky numbers.

熱帯の雪国/ Snow land in tropical

バンコク郊外のドリームワールドの人気アトラクション、スノーハウス。ジャンバーと長靴を借りて入場すれば、建物の中は小さな雪国。ゴムのそりを借りて５０ｍほどの斜面をすべって楽しむことも。全く雪の降らないタイや周辺の国々の人にとって人気のアトラクション。氷点下の世界をしばらく楽しんで外に出ると、３０度以上の気温差はさすがに少し厳しい。

A “Snow house” is the most popular attraction in the Dream World in Bangkok. You can enjoy a little snow land in the building after you borrow a winter jacket and rubber boots. Also you can enjoy sled riding with rubber sled on slope around 50m. It is very popular for Thai and surrounding people who live in no-snow country. When you go outside after you enjoy the world of under zero degree Celsius, you need to have stress of over thirty degree deference.
