バンコクのテーマパーク、ドリームワールド/ Dream world, Amusement park in Bangkok

バンコクの郊外にあるドリームワールド。水田の中に所狭しとアトラクションが並んでいる。日本のテーマパークに比べると規模は小さいが、アトラクションはサービス満点で結構楽しめる。入場料は、外国人はアトラクション乗り放題（一部のアトラクションを除く）で８００バーツ。タイ人にはもう少し安い入場券もあるようだが、売り場のタイ語が読めないので良く判らない。人気のアトラクション、スノーハウスのことは、次の記事で紹介します。

Dream world, an amusement park located in suburb of Bangkok. Many attractions are arranged in the field surrounded by paddy fields. Scale of the park is smaller than Japanese theme park but attractions with full hospitality and service can be very enjoyable. Administration fee for foreigners is fixed as THB 800 per day with all free attractions (but some exceptions). It seems that cheaper tickets are available for Thai people but I cannot read Thai. I would like to write on popular attraction “Snow house” in the next article.

サイドカータクシー？/ Motorcycle sidecar taxi?

バンコクほどメータータクシーが多くないチェンマイでは、ツゥクツゥク（３輪タクシー）やソンテウ（トラックの荷台を改造した乗り合いタクシー）を良く見かけるが、バイクのサイドカーに横のりタイプのタクシーは初めて見た。大人３人乗ると、ゆっくりしか進まないが、値段もツゥクツゥクの半額程度で、ちょっとした移動には安上がりな交通手段。ただチェンマイに４日ほど滞在したが、見かけたのはこの１回だけだった。もう一つの写真はソンテウ車内の乗り合いの様子。

In Chiang Mai, you can find Tuk-Tuk (Three- wheeler taxi) or Songthaew (Modified truck taxi)
much popular since there are fewer meter-taxi than Bangkok. I found a motorcycle taxi with side bench car. When we hired this taxi with three adult members, it went slowly but very economically. The fare of this taxi was less than half of Tuk-Tuk's. However during my stay in Chiang Mai, I could find only one time this type, it could be very unique taxi. 小さなバレンタインケーキ/Tiny Valentine’s cake

チェンマイで会議を運営するため、昨日、バンコクからタイ航空に乗ったら、配られたケーキがバレンタインデー仕様に。タイのバレンタインは、恋人や奥さんに花を贈ったり、一緒にディナーを食べたりするようだけど、日曜まで会議で、この小さなケーキで少しだけバレンタインの気分を味わい、月曜にバンコクに帰ったら家族には、少し償いをしないといけないかな。

I found a special tiny Valentine’s cake served in a Thai air flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai yesterday. I am organizing an international workshop in Chiang Mai until Sunday evening. Many Thai people celebrate Valentine night by presenting flowers to lover or spouse and/or having a special diner with lover or families. However I need stay in Chiang Mai until next Monday, I enjoyed Valentine’s atmosphere a little bit by eating this tiny cake and I need to consider some compensation to my family after I back to Bangkok.

精霊の家/ Spirit house

タイの家や建物にはサーン・プラプームと呼ばれる土地の精霊を祭る祠が建てられている。これは建物に災いが降りかからないように、土地の精霊（ピー）に花や食べ物をお供えするために建てられているそうだ。夜になると光がともされるもののあり、タイの人々の精霊信仰の厚さがうかがわれる。また、精霊は色々なところに宿ると考えられており、ベンガル菩提樹などの巨樹には、綺麗な布が巻かれているのもよく見かけられる。

Thai people build a spirit house or, san phra phum, to every house or building in its lot for enshrining spirit of land. The spirit house is built for shelter of the spirit and to prevent troubles by making daily offering such as flowers and food. You can see some spirit houses are lighted up during night and you can understand Thai people's religious attitudes to spirits. Also Thai people believes that spirits are existing in many things such as old grand tree, particularly Banyan tree which are wrapped with sacred beautiful clothes.

２０バーツ札/ 20 Baht bill

前の記事で書いたラマ８世橋が描かれた２０バーツ紙幣。タイの紙幣は、２０、５０、１００、５００、１，０００バーツで、この２０バーツが最小紙幣。タクシーやシーロー（４輪軽トラタクシー）に乗った際には、小額通貨を持っていないと、お釣りがないといって、釣りを値切られたりすることもしばしば。ちょっとしたチップなどにも、実に使い勝手が良い。いつも財布に何枚か入れいておくようにしている。日本円にして約６０円（０．７ＵＳドル）だが、昼食を４～５０バーツで十分食べられことを考えると、実際の価値はもっとあるように感じる。日本の最小紙幣が１，０００円と言うのは、やはり日本は物価が高いのかなと思ってしまう。日本にチップ制度があれば、小額紙幣も残っていただろうか。

20 Baht bill on which the Rama VIII bridge and king Rama VIII is drawn. There are 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 Baht bills in Thailand. You might not get enough changes unless you had small money after you took a taxi or Siirow (casual small truck taxi) since taxi drivers sometimes pretended as if they had not enough changes. Also it very useful for tips for small service. I always try to keep some 20 Baht bills in my wallet. Considering price of lunch, you can eat casual lunch from 40-50 Baht, the actual value of THB 20 seems a little bit higher than from exchange value, JPY 60 or USD 0.7. The fact that 1,000 bill is the smallest bill in Japan makes me realize the high price of Japan. We would have small bills if we had custom of tips in Japan.
